Hi Fuzzy,
A few £ -> 150 £ ? aweful...and 2inch amulets for 1 £ each...? I can't believe it. Anyway inhering money is nice :) I love Kyoto also, but it's 13 years ago I visited there last time. It's a beautiful, nice city. And you have real kimono! It's very expensive. Even Japanese people don't wear one usually; just once in a while for ceremonies such as wedding party.

"In the SETI" (to the tune of "In the Navy" by Village People)
Parody by Tetsuji "Maverick" Rai, original by Village People as everyone knows

Where did you see the movie?
Search the space for ET
Learn science technology
Have you ever thought you can find the ET
With your 'puter on your desk
No-one yet has found one
Crunching again and again
Polishin' its algorithm
Sign up for our BOINC
Or sit in the grandstand
When your team and others meet

In the SETI
Yes, you can sweep the galaxy
In the SETI
Yes, you may find it easily
In the SETI
Come on now, people, make a stand
In the SETI, in the SETI
Can't you see we need a hand
In the SETI
Come on, protect our mother Earth
In the SETI
Come on and join your fellow man
In the SETI
Come on people, and make a stand
In the SETI, in the SETI,

We want you, we want you
We want you as a new recruit

If you like advanture
Don't you wait to enter
Your email address there fast
Don't you hesitate
There is no need to wait
We're signing up for accounts there fast
Maybe your 'putr's too slow
To crunch for this project
But don't you worry 'bout a thing
For I'm sure there will be
Always good fellows
At Berkeley and all the world!

(repeat: In the SETI....)

Who me?

We want you, we want you
We want you as a new recruit

But, but, but I'm afraid of UFO!
Hey, hey look
Man, I get airsick even watchin' it on TV!

We want you, we want you in the SETI

Oh my goodness,
What am I gonna do behind firewall?
We want you, we want you in the SETI....

(repeat: In the SETI....)

Thank you. That's what I imagined. I guessed from the fact that Japanese "sake" (sometimes spelled "saki") is pronounsed as "sa-kee".

And now this is important to me :)

Thansks!!

Quick question.

Is migrating to Vista really "upgrade"?

I mean, won't be the situation be more complicated in several aspects (user's side, programmer's side, etc.)?

just curious.

In that case, I think international money order is the best considering safety, as KB says. You can specify the name of the recipient in case it is lost on the way. Usually the transaction fee is very cheap (at least here in Japan.)

But luckily enough, it's in 1964. If you sort correctly, it reads 6664 and I like to use this number in my email addresses.

Wow, I didn't know there was a 4mb cache Pentium D! That would explain why so many Pentium D's are at the top of the performance charts... I thought it was just because they had the same 2mb cache as Pentium M but faster clockspeeds than the mobiles. Pentium D 9x0 is thus what I would invest in, too!
Being dual core parts, they each have a 2 MB cache. Cache is not shared between cores.

But considering the clock speed of Pen-M, doesn't Pen-D 9x0 have much advantage? And that in Pen-D, 2 processes of S@H don't switch between 2 cores every time slice. So it should be much better than Pen-M in that Pen-D is dual-core and than AMD in cache size.

But now I understood why Pen-M is nice. (though I think dual-core is better :)) I would give Pen-D a go if I had a chance.

Pen-D 9x0 series must be very fast because they have 2 * 2mb cache, and that much cheaper than 840EE

Yes, but be careful not to buy 8x0 series :) Refer to Intel's site.

And another problem is in boinc often doesn't report AMD's clock speed, and cannot compare.

what is the fastest CPU for SETI and needs not much Power ??

Actually, there is an absolute win here! Please see this message I just posted in another thread to see why, but a 1600 MHz mobile Intel will outperform a 3500+ AMD on SETI@home, and it will also draw less power. Some versions of this chip use only 15 watts! Jim is right though about the desktop Intels, they will drink more power than a desktop AMD. So if you aren't in the market for a notebook computer, you'll sacrifice utility bills for the performance.

I've been wondering why Pen M is so fast. AFAIK, it's because of large L2 cache (2Mb). If it's the only reaosn, Pen-D 9x0 series must be very fast because they have 2 * 2mb cache, and that much cheaper than 840EE (of couse slower than EE). If not, what makes so much differences between Pen-M and P4 other than cache size?

If I'm to buy another one, I'd buy Pen-D 9xx (2.8G or 3.0G). It's fast enough for personal use or even for an usual server.

EDIT: as for comparison between Intel & AMD, optimized clients prefer Intel because SIMD (SSE/SSE2/SSE3) instructions consume nearly the same clock count between Intel & AMD; usually AMD runs at a lower clock rate (for ex AMD 3200+ runs at 2G+ or so) so as for SIMD instructions, Intel is clearly faster. But overall performance is another thing. Use at your own risk and credition.

I don't want to believe Ingleside is cheating. I also know he is a nice guy.

If his machine had been claiming only -10675xxx credits, I wouldn't think it's a cheating. I would be asking him how/when that error happens. However as I posted in boinc_opt list, I found -10 million claiming bug seems to be because 64th bit is set for unknown reason (maybe bug of (long long int) calculation in VC++ or something), and if this had related to his unusual credits, it wouldn't claim 1286 or 1286008 or something. And that, as I wrote in my previous post, in "stderr out" of his result, "test 19d", "test 18c" or similar comments are seen, which indicates he is using his own build application. So I suspected he might be cheating or at least testing something, wasting some workunits by aborting them. In beta, unlike this public s@h, after aborting a wu, it often takes a long time for the server to issue another workunit to another additional machine.

So I wrote if he was testing the credit, he could test it in standalone (offline) mode.

If I am making a mistake and offending, I'm sorry...

It's NOT cheating unless Matt L. or Rom W. make an OFFICIAL statement saying that it is..

Please do not misinterpret and assume that you know the reason(s) why others are doing what they're doing, as it only leads to misunderstandings and bad feeling where none need to be.

We're ALL working toward the same goal, both optimized and unoptimized.

Thank you.

Sorry for that, but as I've been developing _enhanced, it looked like cheating or waste of wu's.

The Seti_Enhanced application can readily be optimized, and a small number of users is already running optimized versions in beta.

For the BOINC "core" client on the other hand, as long as you're running v5.2.6 or later (except v5.3.1), it doesn't matter for seti if it's optimized or not, since Seti_Enhanced doesn't use the BOINC benchmark when deciding on claimed credits.

@Ingleside,

If I'm making a mistake, I'm sorry. I don't mean offnding, but......

If you are trying to cheat credits on beta, please don't try to cheat with fpop based _enhanced cruncher on beta :) You seem to multiply FLOP_counter by a very high value for this computer at beta project. Like this one, (note "test18c" or something in stderr_txt field) your computer claims very high credit but was aborted so that cheating wouldn't be revealed. You abort all the wu's, you are not cheating now, but I'm afraid it's a waste of workunits.

Even if only one computer claims high credits, it will get apropriate credits unless other computers also cheat :)

If you are experimenting FLOP_counter, you can test in standalone mode (not using the beta project online. It can be a waste of workunits until the server issues additional workunits to other machines). In state.sah, cumulative fpops value is stored and you can test fpops value offline.

If you don't mean to cheat, sorry for this post, but to everyone,

No cheat please for seti@home(_enhanced).
