Another "No work from project" thread
(Message 76425)
Posted 4 Feb 2005 by ColinDB Post: I gave up trying to download work months ago. I continue with classic Seti on 5 out of 7 machines using SetiQueue. I believe in the core reason for running Seti in the first place - to find "THE" signal. I have run SetiQueue for 14 months and have never run out of work. 2 other machines running Climate Prediction (non Boinc) and Find-a-drug (cancer research etc.). My stats on BOINC are 6225 for classic work units. To date, I am at +12,800 (I really would like to see an update!). When there is a sufficient and reliable source of data to be crunched, then I will switch to BOINC to continue the search - the essence of what we are doing anyway. Until then, I will continue with the classic version. Should we get kicked off classic (which will happen eventually) and work is not available, then I will devote more CPU time to other projects like I have started doing already. I suggest you take the same approach. Don't leave your machine idle for a second! Anything you contribute may benefit humankind - be it finding a cure for a bastard cancer, predicting outcomes for global warming or a promising signal from out yonder! Keep the CPU warm Mate! CDB |

Schedulars fail to respond

When the bugs get ironed out and the Seti crowd get on top of this massive project to be in a position to exploit the world wide pond of CPU power, you will find more than enough work to keep your machine busy. I continue with classic Seti on 5 out of 7 machines using SetiQueue. I believe in the core reason for running Seti in the first place - to find "THE" signal. "Old" SETI Credit mismatch

I would suggest that if you have a S@H account, you keep it's email > address up to date, as I bet (but I don't know) that they may key off of > this. I trust you are right John. I allowed BOINC to connect again today and still cannot get any work. I have 5 machines (ranging from 2400 to 3200Mhz) here which I am reluctant to keep running if there is no credit due. Other projects wouldn't hold off stats to the detriment of their contributors. I would hope that both old and new credits would be maintained during the transition period. I want to get underway with the BOINCing (climate is expecting to convert!) to keep my machines busy and contribute to the big picture. All I ask is to be recognised for my crunching at all levels. |

"Old" SETI Credit mismatch
(Message 11682)
Posted 24 Jul 2004 by ColinDB Post: S@H1 website does state a snapshot on May 15 would be carried over and any other work done after this would not be credited. This is morally wrong! I personally have run over 8000 units to date and have a credit of 6225. Unless you actually went looking for changes, you would not have been aware that you were crunching for no credit. I still crunch looking for signals as this is the primary goal of the project, but I believe credit should be due to those who have high commitment to participate. Note that I have converted 1 machine to BOINC but it has been idle since registering as I can never get any work for it. It is currently running a climate prediction run. |
