Ned:

Nor did I run out of work either over the past long weekend. My pending credit also shrank today by a considerable margin.

Kenn

So in the last 6 days we got maybe 10hr worth of work.. And if it sounds like i'm bitching I AM.. When folks volunteer you shouldn't have them standing around with there thumbs up there butt. An yes after 24 years in the US Army I get just a little pissed off when I see 12hr work down in 6 days... So I will continue to bitch and complain as long as a dual 3.6GIG machine is doing nothing but sucking up power.

At the same time, under the same conditions, I've not run short of work.

Why? You do the math.

Both computers are using the lastest apps. The ever increasing pending credit is on the
newest computer - Core 2 Duo. The G4 is happily munching away, albeit at a slower rate.

KENN

Has anyone else had there pending credit increase dramatically.

Mine used to hover around 1800 to 2100. I am now at 7200 pending credits. It never has been so high a value.

Kenn

The reason this is, is because now only 2 people get the results of a WU to work on. Before it was 3, so results came in faster. Now instead of waiting for 1 our of you, you wait for 1, then if that 1 doesn't do it, then you wait for another 1, etc.

Nothing wrong. It's just the nature of how it works. You will eventually get credit, when someone finally finishes a second one to match you.

1 of his computers is using the old MAC app that has a problem with "weakly similar" results. So a third wu is issued and pending credit going through the roof.

Here are the new Alex Kan Seti Apple (Mac) Enhanced nographics versions 7.2. I take it that the mb in
the version name means multibeam?

I do not know if they process multibeam or not but these were made available the
21 and 22 of August 2007, as indicated at Alex's download site.

Anybody else know. At a quick glance when I installed it and reinstalled Boinc 5.10.7 it
appeared that Seti resent the 'lost results' which I believe were multibeam.

So, and this is perhaps a question to which I should know the answer.

Are the multibeam clients the 5.10.18 (Wind) and 5.10.17 (Mac) clients
located at:

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php

No. Those are BOINC clients, which manage the system and the communications with the servers for every project you're participating in.

The term 'multibeam' refers to a science application, specific to SETI@home. It will be downloaded automatically by your current version of BOINC as and when needed.

Jeff returned today and we all tackled getting the new multibeam client out. So the Windows version has been released, in case you haven't noticed. A Linux version, and a working Mac version (should be recompiled eventually) are also available. This client will chew on classic work until multibeam data becomes available. Speaking of that, Jeff and I are working on the splitter now. We actually fired one up, and a few hundred multibeam workunits went out to the public, but we're still doing work on the automation backend and otherwise, so don't expect a flood of new work just yet. Besides, we really should get the formal press release in order before we dive all the way into the new data. In any event: Woo-hoo!!

Why you get the HTTP error, I do not know. But assuming you are on Broadband, always on. If you set the connection interval to 0, and use the 'Maintain enough work for an additional x days' as your cache setting. The results will report immediately, saving the need to update.

The aborted results are because validation is already complete on that WU. To decrease the number of these that you get, then you would have to decrease your cache. At 0.5 days I've only had one in the last 48 hrs.

Andy

Thanks, I'll amend my preferences

I have noticed since the download of the 5.10.7 that I have quite a few 'aborted' WUs; seventy (70) of them as a matter of interest. As well when I do an update I have noticed that two things happen. When the initial update is done there is an 'http error' then the seconds later a second update is done, successfully as per quoted text, save for those 'aborted by project'.

Any ideas?

Yes, Matt is probably out playing "rock star" again and don't have time for us.

I do not know about you; but I have my job and my outside interests as well.

Most people that I am familar with do as well. Matt is paid to provide services
for a certain amount of hours per week and he must be fulfilling that requirment
as he has been employed here for sometime.

I would kindly suggest that you not personalize the problems here to one
individual (Matt) as he is not the sole employee.

Perhaps instead of bemoaning Matt's 'lack' of work effort, you could donate
a new server or two?!?

I have had connections problems only over the last twelve hours (not several days),
and now have two work units crunching and one ready to start and a queue still trying
to download.

The same here. Previous to reading these posts I even reset the project with no luck. Obviously I
should of checked here first. It does seem strange though to have named potential downloads
listed but unable to complete the rest of the download.

At least there is action.

I received an email claiming that I had yet to register for a Boinc client credit. I have used Boinc almost from its inception.

I am wondering if the following is a phishing trip?

Dear ???????????:

We notice that you registered with SETI@home on 03 April 1999, and that we haven't yet credited you with any completed work for SETI@home/BOINC. Your computing power is important to SETI@home. If you had problems installing or running the software, please visit the Questions and Answers area of our web site. You may find the solution to your problem there; if not, you can ask for help from project volunteers and staff.

We also encourage you to fill out the BOINC user survey. to give us feedback on how to make SETI@home easier to use.

Thanks!

I do not know if you have configured Boinc according to the 'Commands" pull down menu.

Make sure that "suspend" in that pull down menu is not selected. Chose 'run always' or 'run based on preferences'.

It just seemed that the Boinc site advised that the newest 4.07 was for Mac as well, though now in retrospect it seems to indicate that it is only prepartory for Mac.
