The value has nothing to do with how fast everything goes.
A lower or higher value changes ... nothing in CPU and GPU speed.
I expect (hope) the scheduler does something with this value to know how much work to request.

Makes sense to me.

As a follow up...

I do not own a cel-phone and work as a software developer for a large company.

If people need to reach me outside of work, they call my house or send me an email that I check on my netbook. What is wrong with that?

Also, someone please tell me why people feel compelled to text while walking around the supermarket?

Is it ok to text-bump-someone out of your way in a store?

Is it ok to honk your horn if someone is driving slow on the interstate while chatting on their phone with the window rolled down? :)

Whether you are sick of the holidays already or sorry that they are almost over, today is officially Humbug Day for all us Whiners out there.

I may as well get the ball rolling:

Too many silly Cell Phone ads on TV - so you bought your subsidized iPhone 3G with a two-year contract and now you're upset because AT&T wants to charge you full price for the new iPhone 3GS, right? Well, stop whining. It sucks to be the first one on the block with a new toy!

Whine away fellow Seti-ites...

Oh please do not get me started!

1) The Christmas play commercial where the tree lights go off and the guy with the Cenntenial phone lights it up again.

2) Suddenlink commercials are actually worse than any cel-phone ads!

3) The worst commercial is Sprint coverage series. Arghh..

You must also take into account the memory bus on the motherboard that you are testing folks.

If you think SETI is slow on a dual channel DDR 400Mhz board, try single channel!

Kudos to the staff for getting the Servers working smoothly, and providing lots of WUs. I noticed that they were/are almost entirely from 2006/2007 (I assume these are the s/w-washed data that was too noisy before).

Ditto

Good job staff, we are proud of the work you do for us!

Hyperthreading performance has been a debate that will go one for years.

With the Pentium 4 processors, we ran with hyperthreading on to allow the operating system a chance to use a spare thread for file tasks.

Remember, you can pull as much as 4% of your cpu just writing files.

Welcome to SETI@Home Giles.

The project is a noble one that needs more people like you to join if we ever want to accomplish our goals.

Do not forget to check out all the cool cups and T-shirts that they have for sale as well. Buying them supports the project.

Good insights for someone that joined the project 3 days ago...LOL...who were you before?

Hi Robert,

First time here. Friends are crunching S@H, Milkyway, Rosetta, etc. Decided to come on board; they have helped me getting started. I don't mind doing a few BOINC projects but I don't feel like babysitting the computer :-)

Cheers, Giles

Really looking forward to the new 'retro-style' system that is to replace the shuttle.

Challenger really affected me as well.

I caution that your optimism about the new retro system is mostly based on a 'at least we got somethin' mentality.

There are those at NASA who wish for a job creating new shuttle program.

Is there anyway to know where the telescope was pointing when this was recorded?

If you're quick, you can catch it before the WU file gets purged from disk:

      <start_ra>5.3250722193798</start_ra>
      <start_dec>9.6094136906623</start_dec>

      <time_recorded>Sun Mar 4 22:51:46 2007</time_recorded>
      <time_recorded_jd>2454164.4526263</time_recorded_jd>

Google Sky shows absolutely nothing at that location! It's quite close to the square of Pegasus.

As a veteran of SETI, I have to applaud this posting. Would the original poster consider making a new thread so that we can catch the attention of more members of the community?

We now have more tools to analyze sky positions than ever before. Someone may catch these messages and do a follow up sky survey with their own equipment.

Hopefully we'll get a good result for all from the ongoing Copenhagen climate talks.

Here's hoping that the politics move usefully more quickly than the glaciers around the world retreat!

Regards,
Martin

I find it comical how everyone is calling climate change false when the ice caps are still melting.

Also, does anyone realize that we are the killing of all these endangered species around the world? You just cannot say that is natural when Dodo birds would still be alive if not for man. :)

When the aliens abducted me they injected me with lots of viruses and then programmed me to travel around the world.

It can`t be you cos that`s what they told ME . . . .

Or it may just be mother nature`s way of telling humanity that there are to many of us on this planet and trying to reduce our numbers.
the more of `us` there are, the more easy it is to spread with world wide travel.

Speaking of world travel, we should just dump all our bio hazard waste on Iran. :P

Depending on the Boinc Core Version there are issues with Short Term and Long Term Debt that are affecting the downloads.

If Users are brave (and know what they are doing), shutdown Boinc and edit the client_state.xml file to Zero Debts... It is being worked on in Boinc Alpha to correct the situation.

If you have no idea about what I am suggesting then Please ignore this post.

Regards

Any idea when release will be available? I have several stranded offsite computers.
