Dec. 21 - Humbug Day!
(Message 957856)
Posted 21 Dec 2009 by Reuben Gathright Post: As a follow up... I do not own a cel-phone and work as a software developer for a large company. If people need to reach me outside of work, they call my house or send me an email that I check on my netbook. What is wrong with that? Also, someone please tell me why people feel compelled to text while walking around the supermarket? Is it ok to text-bump-someone out of your way in a store? Is it ok to honk your horn if someone is driving slow on the interstate while chatting on their phone with the window rolled down? :) |

(Message 957853)
Posted 21 Dec 2009 by Reuben Gathright Post: Whether you are sick of the holidays already or sorry that they are almost over, today is officially Humbug Day for all us Whiners out there. Oh please do not get me started! 1) The Christmas play commercial where the tree lights go off and the guy with the Cenntenial phone lights it up again. 2) Suddenlink commercials are actually worse than any cel-phone ads! 3) The worst commercial is Sprint coverage series. Arghh.. |

New Work from Arecibo?
(Message 956968)
Posted 17 Dec 2009 by Reuben Gathright Post: Kudos to the staff for getting the Servers working smoothly, and providing lots of WUs. I noticed that they were/are almost entirely from 2006/2007 (I assume these are the s/w-washed data that was too noisy before). Ditto Good job staff, we are proud of the work you do for us! |

Hyperthreading or not?
(Message 954718)
Posted 14 Dec 2009 by Reuben Gathright Post: Hyperthreading performance has been a debate that will go one for years. With the Pentium 4 processors, we ran with hyperthreading on to allow the operating system a chance to use a spare thread for file tasks. Remember, you can pull as much as 4% of your cpu just writing files. |

Do not forget to check out all the cool cups and T-shirts that they have for sale as well. Buying them supports the project. Good insights for someone that joined the project 3 days ago...LOL...who were you before? |

As a veteran of SETI, I have to applaud this posting. Would the original poster consider making a new thread so that we can catch the attention of more members of the community? We now have more tools to analyze sky positions than ever before. Someone may catch these messages and do a follow up sky survey with their own equipment. |

I find it comical how everyone is calling climate change false when the ice caps are still melting. Also, does anyone realize that we are the killing of all these endangered species around the world? You just cannot say that is natural when Dodo birds would still be alive if not for man. :) |
