I was just kidding about selling my Mac, which is a ppc, not one of the new intel duo's. I'm just disappointed as an enduser about many of the BOINC projs. snubbing Mac's.

Why are Mac users snubbed by so many projects? I looked at GridRepublic....no Mac support, but all the screen shots of BOINC projects are shown on an iMac G5. Quite confused. Climate/BBC have completely snubbed Mac's.
I remember Linux being so alien to some folks for so many years, but now it seems Mac's are on the way out. even the addon's for projects are lacking so much for Macs. Anyone wanna buy my Mac?

I am, by far not one on the big CPU contributors here, I believe in SETI (well actuay mixed beliefs about ET, UFO's etc....) and as an amatuer astronomer, gladly give my little part of CPU time, but what I don't understand (sincerely) is why large universities having tons of money, large corporations, and prominent individuals don't give their funds. We're just the common folks "volunteering" our computers, spending money on newer and bigger machines, elevating the cost of our electric bills..etc. Why are we asked to give our money too?

The project needs to raise £750,000 by the end of the year and writer and futurologist Sir Arthur C Clarke has sent out a letter urging computer users to send in donations. The project is updating its hardware and software and is running dangerously low on funds.

Come on...Arthur C could fund this thing for a lifetime by himself and not even flinch!

Someone mentioned no Corp. advistisers on the SETI page....why/why not?

I don't know I just don't understand.

Happy crunching

Nobody...I wish we could all know the truth about ET, I think the
SETI Group is a noble organisation, I've heard Dr.Shostak in a
number of radio interviews,a fascinating listen to say the least.
It is sad to think that the Ferderal Government has a BIG hand in
the soup, but I'm afraid they do.
Richard Hoagland is another fascinating guy to listen to.

I just hope we can make,(or continue)to make "contact",
it will help us realize our own potential as a species...
if the Feds allow us to know the truth.
In the mean time I will always support Dr. Shostak and SETI.

Happy crunching for contact....

Brooke I agree, I mean I love S@H. TDP has some credible people from the military,
NASA etc. making claims that I would like to believe. I just find it fascinating.

I found a post in Google Groups a seti group concerning the detection of a number of signals supposedly SETI has
already found. The Disclosure Project can't be entirely bogus, I know how some of you feel about Art Bell, the show on which Dr. Greer made his claim that SETI has made contact, Seti is a smoke screen, we're looking for something that has already been detected. I for one do believe contact was made a long time ago, and contact is still being made. If you think you're really going to find a signal here, you will never know about it.
Just read The Brookings Report look at the protocol incase conctact is made. Our government is soooooo screwing the sheeple. This whole ET thing has been covered up since Roswell. Our government would never tell us, why? they think we have no need to know. We only know what our government tells us, and what they tell us, we don't know, and in some cases, we'll never know.

We have a lot of intelligent crunchers among us, this is not a thread to start a flame war, but let's get some discussion going here.

The project is up, but unreachable :

Aug. 1, 2006

Today we officially begin the Stardust@home project with real data.

Due to the unexpected large volume of traffic, our website might be slow or non-responsive. If you are receiving this message, please try again at a later time.

We are working to solve this problem as soon as possible. Please be patient and thank you for your understanding,

Stardust@home Team

Really? Might be slow?......7 yrs after the launch of S@H SD@H would not
be better prepared to setup so as to handle the volume?
And of course no emails...not to me anyway, a mute point now.
I was able to test and reg. and look at the boards for a minute or
two until I was auto logged out...one intersting note, the topic of cheating
has already, it was said people can write scripts to see which are test
images and real data...one guy has already scored 80+ (whatever that means)

Is planetquest a boinc project where you have to pay to participate? So now you have to pay in order to volunteer? Im sure NASA (Never A Straight Answer) doesn't need the money. If that's a pay-per-project, that really sucks....!!!!

2046,

you may want to check out my lowly MacMini G4. It is currently pulling over 200 RAC (it just hasn't updated yet).

Mac Mini

Thanks to Alex Kan, who released an optimized client for G4/G5, your Mac can really rake in them darn credits.

You can find a link in this thread.

Regards,
Simon.

I didn't mean Mac's are lowly, I meant lowly in the sense I have
only one machine, just can't keep up with the big boys. Cheers

Do people optimize clients to get more credit for less
cpu time? I'm sure it's not to more efficently do the
science. And I'm not afraid to say it, I think that's
cheating...whose project is it anyway? And why do the
Boinc people allow it? isn't there a way to stop all of
this optimizing?

Oct I'm only stating a fact of history, 1,400 years....Islam is here to stay.
I don't speak for all of Islam, I don't condone acts of terrorism perpetrated
