What brand was your 590?

Tim

My 590 was a GeForce.

I'm not worried about heat as my case can handle it, and the 590 was crunching at about 75 degrees depending on the time of the year.

Also not worried about power consumption or the cost of the card because it's a freebie.

I'm after pure performance, forgetting about everything else. So if there were four identical PC's with different cards - TITAN, 780Ti, 780, 690 - at the end of 24hrs crunching which would have the most credit?

I was doing AstroPulse only on my 590 (part time), 4 work units at a time for about 2500 credits per hour.

I’m getting a new card under warranty for the 590, I imagine they will give me a 690 if it’s still available.

What card gives the best credit on SETI at the moment?

Should I sell it and get a TITAN?

Thanks

*New Record*

This is the highest level of Blanking I've ever seen;
ap_14ja12ae_B6_P1_00326_20130609_04712.wu_0
single pulses: 4
repetitive pulses: 0
Percent Blanked: 99.85

The GPU sat there and did basically Nothing for over 2 hours.
Not a very efficient use of hardware...

I've got that covered!

New Record (maybe)

ap_14ja12ae_B6_P1_00234_20130609_04712.wu_0
single pulses: 3
repetitive pulses: 0
Percent Blanked: 99.90

Can a WU be 100% blanked?

Ok thanks ill try it.

What about my network usage settings on the Seti website, does one over ride the other?

'Maintain enough tasks to keep busy for at least' has a blank field...
... 'and up to an additional' is 10 days.

Also, why did they remove the messages tab for 7.0.28???

Having a seperate 'event log' page is crap!

6.10.58 looks better and better all the time...

Is that Boinc - Preferences: network usage?

If so it's set to Minimum work buffer 0.10 days and Max work buffer 10.00 days.

It's the same for both PC's

Thanks, I already had 7.0.28 installed so I added the cc_config.xml fix, now crunching 2 WU's per GPU.

Now for the next problem, is 7.0.28 a pig of a thing or is it just me?
My other PC with 6.10.58 has no problems getting work units, but this PC with 7.0.28 can only get a few WU's at a time and always has 'download pending - project backoff'

Can I roll back to 6.10.58 or has 7.0.56 fixed this?

Why does the 'recommended' version have this problem?, they should tell us about it when we download or install it, there is nothing in the release notes about the Nvidia GPU memory reporting Bug...

Anyway, that link suggests version 7.0.44, can't see it on the Boinc download page, only 7.0.28 or 7.0.56.

Is it better to go with the cc_config.xml fix or version 7.0.56?

Thanks

Ok, second GTX590 in second PC, updated Boinc from 6.10.58 to 7.0.28 and driver 311.06 to 314.07.

Now only one GPU is used... any suggestions?

Well I got it going without really doing anything....

Pulled them both out, swapped slots, rebooted and now device 0, 1, 2 and 3 shows in Boinc and Afterburner shows GPU 1 to 4.

I will have to change my motherboard so I can space them further apart. Running them back to back on this MB they are getting too hot. The bottom card stays at about 78-80 degrees but the top card hit 96 degrees. It's just sucking in all the heat from the card 1cm below it.

BTW I think 1000w PSU is fine for 2 x 590, Guru3D did a 590 SLI review and the system wattage with the GPU's in full stress was 890w, and that was with an overclocked core i7 965.

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/geforce_gtx_590_sli_review,3.html

Any motherboard suggestions where I can space 2 x 590's as far apart as possible?

I don't think it's that high?

The geforce website says: Maximum Graphics Card Power = 365W

With boinc not running my MSI afterburner only shows device 1,2 & 3 so it might not be a boinc problem....

I have tried both cards one at a time, they work fine as device 0 and device 1 so there is no dead GPU.

As soon as I add the second card it only shows as device 3.

My PSU is a Corsair HX1000w, plenty of power I think.

Both cards are running but there is a problem.

Seti shows my first card as device 0 and device 1 - it was like this before I added the second card.

But the second card is only shown as device 3, device 4 is not there.

The second card is only using 1 of its 2 GPU's.... can anyone help with this?

Not good ideia, GTX590 produces a lot of heat, rise the fan speed and keep an eye with EVGA precision, if the temperature rises about mid 80 C slow down the clock.

I keep my 590 in a 590/690 host below 82C with 2 WU running at a time on each 1/2 GPU with the use of few external, direct mounted above fans.

With one card my GPU temps were 78 to 80 degrees (stock), if I can get my second card running I'll see how having 2 cards close together changes the temps.

Ok I have installed the second 590....

I can only mount them back to back so I'm asking about cooling.
There is only about 1cm between the cards.
Is this enough room for airflow etc.... are these cards designed to be that close and still cool ok?

My case is a Lian-Li X1000B with 5 fans - 3 in & 2 out.

Thanks

Will be doing some gaming but no SLI.
Currently running driver 306.97
I'm in the nvidia control panel but can't see where to disable SLI ?

I run a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 590 and want to add a second one.
Can it be a different brand, such as EVGA, and use the gigabyte driver with no problems?
And do I have to use a dummy DVI plug?
Thanks

Hey Josef, what's the deal with Seti Beta, doesn't look like a lot of people run it?

Does it work if I have Lunatics installed (nVidia and ATI) ?
Are the credits the same as normal Seti?
How do you join, it's not listed as a project in Boinc manager?

Thanks, copying that file over has worked, now crunching AP again.

GPU is only running from 60% to 80% doing 2 AP's at a time, will bump it up to 3 and see if it gets near 100%.

I'm getting 99% running MultiBeam two at a time.

The card is a HD 6970 with Catalyst 12.3 by the way.

I did what he said, all tasks were finished / uploaded and I had zero tasks in Boinc before I installed Lunatics.... then I got a new batch of tasks.

Why would the AP's error as soon as they start?

Thanks for the replies,

I re-installed lunatics, can't remember what was in my app_info last time so for now I've put the count to 0.5 to run 2 WU's at once.

MultiBeam is working fine but the AstroPulse tasks are erroring straight away???
