(Message 1029310)
Posted 28 Aug 2010 by The Gas Giant Post: As your wingmen return their wu's after an outrage your old pendings should become 'unpending' - but only if the wingman was going to return those wu's during the outrage. I don't think not having the outrage will speed this process up. Well maybe by a couple of days maximum - but all would be caught up by the Friday in any case. |

Posted 13 Aug 2010 by The Gas Giant Post: I just installed catalyst 10.7 (uninstalled 10.4 first) and now BOINC doesn't recognise the GPUs (5970 and 4870). MSI Afterburner does. I've also rebooted the computer and stopped and re-started BOINC. Desktop is extended. Ideas? 14/08/2010 9:54:52 AM | | No usable GPUs found |

estimates of Wu STILL way off
(Message 1018199)
Posted 21 Jul 2010 by The Gas Giant Post: Thanks for the explanation Pappa. It's good to see that the issue has been recognised and a solution is being worked on. I know these things can take time so in the mean time we can just increase our cache sizes to suit the extended outrage - or just rely on a back up project. |

estimates of Wu STILL way off
(Message 1015277)
Posted 13 Jul 2010 by The Gas Giant Post: If a computer is completing CPU and GPU jobs for the same project where the same wu could be completed on both a CPU or a GPU then I can understand why the (faster) GPU jobs are way off. Due to the way BOINC calculates the DCF if a wu takes significantly longer than expected it immediately moves the DCF an appropriate amount to make the remaining wu's extimated time to equal the last calculated completion time. For subsequent wu's where the completed time is less then the DCF is only slowly reduced. This ensures you don't end up with too much work cached if a project 'forgets' to increase the estimated flops when changing the style of wu being sent out (seen that happen many times over the years) or jobs of varying lengths and there is no way to'forecast' the length of time a wu may take. So if the same computer does both CPU and GPU work then the estimated completion times for the wu's are always going to be nearer the length of time the CPU takes versus the length of time the GPU takes - assuming the GPU is faster. |
