Well done to all the folks working at it. It is a great investment in your future.

In the last 20 months I've gone from around 105kgs (230lbs) to now under 87kgs (191lbs) with a goal of 84kgs (185lbs) by October - mainly by riding a push bike and only a small amount of being careful of what I eat. When I get to 84kgs I'll be the same weight I was in my mid 20's (over 20 years ago). Ideally I'm heading for 78kgs (170lbs). The main problem with loosing weight is not just having to replace clothes that are now way too big, but feeling the cold during winter.

I hit a plateau at 88kgs for about 6 weeks but have now (hopefully) broken through it. Will know tomorrow when I do my weekly weigh in and then head out for a short burst of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), which is not to be confused with Some High Intensity Training. I have been accused of doing a large/big amount of Some High Intensity Training before.

Riding a bike is low impact and great for old or stressed joints and allows for a good social work out if you can find some friends to ride with.

Regards to all,

Paul.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the comments. I'll see how the power bill goes. Currently the computers are still on (for other reasons), just not crunching and with summer upon us the extra heat also meant the air con was being utilised more than it really should have been as well. So a double wammy. I'll see how the power bill goes over this quarter to see if CPU only crunching my be a fall back plan.

The next project is to consolidate the info that is across 2 computers onto just one and then minimise its power consumption while shutting off the older one.

I'll be doing a few SETI wu's every now and then to maintain a min posting RAC.

Regards to all,

Paul.

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish.

Due to ever increasing power bills (hit $700 last quarter) and the ongoing price gouging by the power companies (with the requisite lack of concern by the government) I'm forgoing crunching. It's been a great 10 years of watching SETI@home grow and BOINC develop into the multi-project platform that it is.

Good luck to the SETI@home staff and crunchers. I hope you find it.

Live long and crunch.

Paul.

I see some people are still arguing the earth is flat...

I for one believe the earth is not flat. As I believe that you cannot keep spewing pollutants into the atmosphere without something going wrong (just as we found that out about rivers, lakes and land, etc). It's just common sense.

I believe those who argue that rising CO2 levels is not causing global climate change tend to be trolls.

10 years ago today I joined up here at SETI@home. I've seen some interestings things come and go...but still no intelligent signal from 'out there'. Looks like I'll still be around for a while to come!

Thanks to the Gillard (and formerly Rudd) Government in Australia, I am signing off from ALL BOINC projects that I contribute to. My electricity bill has near doubled.

You do realise the carbon tax isn't in place yet and any elec price increases are purely due to price gouging by the suppliers.

I have over $70k invested in machines running S@H - but people buy boats that cost much more.

Todd

It's not in what you do or what you spend it on, it's how much fun or enjoyment you get out of it. If I had $70k to spend on Seti@Home equipment, I'd do it for sure! Not to mention working on computers and getting something done, or in my mind done anyways, is much more fun than working on a boat....lets not forget maintenance!

And let's not forget the ongoing electricity bills! Ouch... ;)

Roberts comments are laughable, but he allowed to make them. I just hope he understands that we are allowed to disagree. I know the cache is keeping the cpu on the machine I have a high SETI resource share on nice and busy. The other cpu is out of SETI work, but hey it's only got a cache of 0.2 days and a resource share of 2% for SETI so ho hum.
