None of this is news.

The USA government has acknowledged the existence of Area 51 a decade ago.

This story is a non-story.

The confusion comes from the fact that it was declassified information released regarding various spy planes and it mentioned 'Area 51' as a test site.

None of this is new to public at all.

How about dissolving all government funds for education? Has anyone thought of that?

Duh!

Get your religion out of my gubmint and vice verse.

Of course, a sensible idea like that will never get any 'traction' since it pisses off everybody and the recipients of said idea are victims of 'gubmint' schools anyway.

How dare you!!!!!

What gives you the right to assume responsibility over your own child. Your offspring are members of society and should be governed accordingly. They don't exist for their own happiness. The greatest moral life for them consists of serving others and consequently the state. How SELFISH!

Facts are facts. USA corporate taxes are now higher than any industrialized world. No economist , even the crazy Keynesian ones, might think that healthy.

When one adjusts for various deductions it's real high. The capital gains taxes are the highest. Japan just lowered theirs last year putting us in first place of the WORST.

That sort of taxation drains capital from invested enterprises and transfers to gubmint to waste and waste. (creating a 50k a year job per year at the ezpense of 500k expenditure).

This kind of economic 'thinking' is unsustainable. The money they steal from the private sector represents capital invested in actual wealth producing enterprises. Those are the things that make your life better by increasing the amound of purchasing power and satisfaction we all seek.

Shockingly, G.B. just experienced a DECREASE in GDP this past quarter. That's shocking. GREAT Britain!? Getting poorer......(it is even worse than this assessment since the immigrant population is increasing. The per capita standard of living is decling faster than what should even occur given other variables.

You still are not addressing the issue of personhood. Regardless of what someone believes on the issue there should be an agreement that the judgement should be based upon what that actually is and not emotional or mystical arguments.

Ice is neutrally boyant! 10% of an iceberg is above sea level. 90 below. The displacement is the same regardless of what form H20 takes. Come on! This is basic physics!!!

What I hear is that the alarmism doesn't hold true to facts. Even if global waming is true it doesn't constitute 'crisis'. Furthermore, even if this is some sort of a problem there's nothing we can do about it and the price of actual human lives isn't worth the 'correction' prescribed by the religion of enviornmental zealotry. Nothing that proclaims a repair of supposed enviornmental 'damage' can justify the sacrifice of literally millions of human lives on its altar.

Does Utilitarian philosophy still reign?

The U.S.A. FBI crime statistics always show that many more violent crimes are prevented by the actual presence of guns than with them (these are the only comprehensive statistics available)It is something approacfhing 20-1 in favor of the victim. It may be ugly to certain people with enhanced sensibilites but doesn't mean it makes the citizzery that much safer.

From a practical point of view, guns that are modernally effective last now for hundreds of years. They are impossible to get rid of.

Further, the risk of putting American citizens against eachother due to draconian anti-gun laws is risky for society, alienating many that hold votes and political sway. It's just not wise or right. Since most gun owners exercise their right responsibly there's little to fear from such people.

Violent crime has been going DOWN over the past decade....even in Chicago.

Mass shootings are down.

In countries like U.K. violent crimes increase since their gun bans. Hacked to death with a machete in a shop is preferable perhaps to some.

What does someone actually fear from a person who is her/his neighbor with guns in his house? This is a mystery to most rational people. It almost smacks of psychological displacement where the desire to force others is projected upon someone else because of the tendencies of another. None of it makes much rational sense.

38 years in the Plumbers and Fitters. You won't believe what some folks will try and put down the toilet (loo).

We snaked 100 feet of sewer line outside a sorority house once. It was blocked by used condoms that had inflated.

That might have been my fault. Sorry.

Since there is no other open thread for this type of debate I am creating one.

If reasonable people agree that understanding certain facts regarding any issue to be discussed we should converse about it. Most people don't understand the differences between firearms from semi-automatic, full automatic (machine guns that only a few people nationwide are allowed to have with expensive permits and supervision) vs revolvers, shotguns, handguns, etc.

When the average 'Joe and Jane' watches the news the ones portrayed by the politicans look scary. They have all kinds of mechanical parts portrayed in the movies by our favorite film stars. This shouldn't have any influence on your decision when voting legislative actions that may be coming.

Like too many issues that are political the arguments are emotional and not rational. An opinion that is malinformed isn't one to be considered. At minimum any one that comments on guns (Pelosi!!??) should have some basic knowledge of crime statistics and other variables.

FBI Statistics show that many more violent crimes are prevented by a citizen when confronted with a violent predator than murders. The vast majority of these incidents occur without the victim firing her/ his weapon.

The gun is the great equalizer. A woman especially can feel safer at home knowing that if a predator breaks in to her house she has that as a resort.

Practically speaking for the USA. There won't be a way to exhaust this supply since guns, well preserved or even left in a closet, are still functional as they were.

There's a logical way out of this kind of argument. It seems the general point of contention is 'what created THIS (the Universe) or us.

That's a presuppositional enquiry. It assumes that something had a creation at all. Our minds aren't evolved well to handle certain concepts. But we can. (e.g. Einstein [space time etc]

If the Universe is eternal then there is no causation required. It's a complex idea for our minds to comprehend. spatially. And if that's true it should be true in temporal dimension.

In other words, it doesn't matter where one observor starts his measure. No creation event need occur. Picture a point you make on a piece of paper with a pencil. Draw the line out indefinitely. That is an eternal line given that if it exists in physical space it goes on and on. That's a physical perameter.

If existence itself is the axiomatic point of existence then there shouldn't be a question over its validity. Philosophers like Leibniz asked 'Why is there something and not nothing'?.

We exist and would not be around to ask the questions he asks otherwise.
