Post: I updated my home smoothy with the 'latest' boinc and it was fine. when I got to my friends place, the 'latest' wouldn't run. complained about missing libraries that late model kernels already have in them. when I got back home, and looked, mine is the 5.8.15 the 5.8.17 doesn't run on the smoothwall and also to help as an FYI for other smoothy users http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_5.8.15_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh so before I go and cross post this in the smoothwall forums, can some kind soul give some clues as to what I might need to go looking for, apart from the obvious like the libraries named. as smoothwall is very stripped down and doesn't even do apt-get, so how to install it and all too. |

Post: got 5.4.9 client only on my linux smoothwall attached with my desktop 5.8.8 gui manager there was some 'old'ish uploads that had stalled, probably due to recent server downage. in the Transfers tab, clicking a stalled upload, and pressing Retry Now put the upload in a Suspended state like if I had used the Tasks tab and the 2nd button is Suspend. the items would not un-suspend, had to SSH into the linux box, kill the client, restart, then re-attach and see that it had all uploaded just fine |

Post: you cannot run seti classic and boinc and expect them to both do anything at the same time. they are both idle processes and one will work on the idle time available to the detriment of the other. |

(Message 82405)

Post: Boinc is completely different AND separate from the earlier seti@home if the sah client is running, it will use up your idle time and boinc won't do anything. you need your project name http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/ and your unique id string similar to 95acb54cc0c713525b524f508a5cb478 which is mine, but not quite. a long string. attach to the project, and away it will go after you stop your sah client. |

Post: if you save your boinc directory before formatting, you can copy it back after. boinc will install and if there is no current project in the directory, it will get a new computer id string, and therefore a new computer for you. the computers should be the same (if it's the same O/S) and you should jsut merge them together |

Post: > If the "Connect to network about every" is the same for both PC's, the > explanation of the difference can be explained by the fact the benchmark > results for both are different. that seems to be the problem. ta they are both 'set' to be "home" but the logs show different. one says will run out in 1 day (default general) the other says 4 days (home) so, I think the 4.06 win98se workaround version might not be referencing preferences properly. I'll get it to update, and then ask in the 4.06 topic. |
