It's amazing how many of us pioneers are still cranking away. 11 years in this industry is probably equivalent to the difference between my upbringing and my great-grandkids. And I'm not sure I want to go back to that era.

FINALLY, made my 15,000,000. And with CUDA, assuming there are work units, I'll be at 20,000,000 within 6 months. It only took 11 years to get to this point here.

I'll go with the ReSchedule 1.9 likelihood. I added ReSchedule at the same time as updating to 6.10.43, to get rid of the -6 errors. It just happened on an older XP Pro system. But I did change the Advanced Preferences option to "0", as there apperaed to be a slowdown of sorts.

Jord,
Thanks. I checked all three. Had to add to firewall, and also changed BM to Show Only Active Tasks. Other was OK. Don't like only showing active tasks as I cannot get a sense of how deep the CUDA queue is, but will live with that for a while.
Don't know why this only began with 6.10.43, but that's the job of the developers to figure out.

For the past week, ever since I upgraded Boinc Manager to 6.10.43, it has been cutting out on my Win 7 system. Like tonight, I went to that maching and checked the Boinc Manager status in the task bar, and it showed a big red "X" overtop of BM. If I bring up that running of BM, it shows no tasks, no project selected and no activity. If I start task manager, it shows my 5 tasks running, like I would expect. I can shut down BM and restart it, and it will pick up running fine, but I'm not sure if the communications part was running when it was shut down, as there are tasks waiting to be sent. I can Update and all goes back to normal.
How do I figure out why BM is shutting down? And is there a log (other than the Messages Log which is blank), telling me why and when this is happening?

In looking at my results, I have 1 machine that is throwing a lot of errors. Over the past several days, I have hundreds of these.
This is what BOINC Results shows:

I have a few that are not exit status -6, but most are these errors.

Is it a problem with my hardware, EVGA 260
Or my drivers, just rolled back to 191.07.
Or is it a SETI issue?

Names in Task manager are:
AK_v8b_win_x64_SSSE3x.exe and MB_6.08_CUDA_V12_VLARKill_FPLim2048.exe *32
So I guess I am using the correct files.

I did use the Unified Lunatics x64 installer and changed the selection options to SSSE3 and CUDA. Looks OK from here.

I am using the CUDA 2.3 dll's, dated 7/3/09. Looks like I never migrated the 3.0 dll's at all.

When I look at the complete(valid) work units, how do I know when they were finished on my machine. Which date is correct so I can see if they are processing faster.

Thanks.

Well, I did all the suggestions to the Win 7 machine. Took me a while to find the HT bios option but changed it. Reinstalled the unified Lunitics drivers. How do I readily tell that they are running? The names look the same. CUDA looks good, as BOINC tells me as its starting up.
I usually do monitor Task Manager and get rid of a few things that start unwanted.
And it looks like RAC is in flight again. We'll see in a day or two.
If it works well on this machine, I'll go back to the other and make the changes to it.
Thanks all.

I have 2 machines I made up specific for BOINC work (SETI). One is a Q9300 (ID: 4429891) with an NVIDIA 260-216 and its RAC is 15,150. The other is an I7-860 (ID: 5158235) with an NVIDIA 275 and its RAC is 15,155. The first runs XP-Pro 32 and the 2nd runs Win 7-64.
As they both sit all day running only BOINC, I would expect the 2nd machine to significantly outperform the 1st, but that is not happening. These machines have been in these configurations and states for a while, so the RAC should be stable.
Also, when I look at valid tasks performed by the machines, the 1st (slower) takes 60-70 secs for an elapsed time of 600-700 sec to achieve 120-150 credits. The 2nd (faster) machine takes twice as much cpu (140-160 secs) for an elapsed time of 750-800 secs to achieve the same 120-150 credits.
Is Win7 that much worse than XP Pro? The CUDA drivers are different 196.21 vs 197.13, but both are 3.0 drivers, I think.
Can anyone point out elsewhere to change to get better performance, out of either or both.
Thanks.
11) Message boards : Number crunching : AVG_NCPUS and BOINC TASKS (Message 983170)

Post:
I guess my question is why is BOINC TASKS showing that a CUDA task is taking 20-30% of a single cpu (on an 8 cpu system)? My GPU monitor says that it is using 55-60% of the gpu, so the numbers don't jive.

I'll change it back to .04 but just doesn't make sense.

I've started using BOINC TASKS .44 recently and am wondering about some settings for SETI. In the APP_INFO.XML file, I have upped the avg cpu from .04 to .14 based on the fact that BOINC TASKS shows that running a CUDA task takes on an average 20-22% of a cpu. What are the implications of this update of the avg parameter?

From app_info.xml file, I'm now running with:
<avg_ncpus>0.140000</avg_ncpus> - this used to be .04
<max_ncpus>0.250000</max_ncpus> - this used to be .04

From BOINC TASKS screen, it shows:

On a CUDA task: USE 0.14C + 1NV

For a CUDA task: 21.55% CPU

Should I change the parameter back? What difference does it make?

I have a similar setup, with a home network, prnters, and varying flavors of Windows. I opted for Win 7 Pro, not wanting to fight directions I might go in the future. Its been good so far, and I've been running since beta. I'm actually thinking of upgrading my XP boxes to Win 7 as I like the interface better, now that I've gotten used to it. Can't wait to get rid of Vista off my notebook as it just feels and runs kludgy. And getting Vista to connect was harder than XP. That might be due to my XP familiarity tho.

Post:
I have 2 machines each with an EVGA nvidia card (275 and 260). The machine with the 260 shows with EVGA Precision that the GPU is running ~ 90% all the time. The machine with the 275 only shows ~ 60% GPU utilization. I've played around with the CPU % number in app_info.xml, but that doesn't seem to make any difference.
Any suggestions on how I can get that GPU up higher? Or which system parameters I can manipulate?

I've only been able to OC my 275 by 8%, no more. What happens with SETI on this machine is that the display will stall for about 5 to 8 seconds, and then there is a Windows popup (on the bottom bar) that says the driver has crashed. Takes my Core Clock from 700 down to 300 or so when looking at EVGA Precision.
