CuFFT Plan Failure, is the Error you get when you don't have enough vram. You might get it to work running it as a headless machine, and networking in to start boinc, but, I don't remember anyone ever trying that.
Thank you for confirming my suspicions. Oh well, I had low expectations of this working on this 2010 model. The laptop is like-new, but ancient, and I try to let old rigs do what they can. Used to have a 2003 G4 MDD PPC 1.25ghz that crunched one of Alex's old AKv8 sse3 apps up until @ 2013. I'll look into an older Mac Pro just for fun. Thanks again for trying to help.

The new file is a 7zip file, try, http://www.arkayn.us/lunatics/setiathome_x41zi_x86_64-apple-darwin_cuda42.7z
Thank you Tbar. I installed CUDA 6.0.51 & the app. Unfortunately, getting same error as before.
Thu Feb 27 21:03:23 2020 | SETI@home | Task 26fe20ac.13161.4566.10.37.159.vlar_0 postponed for 180 seconds: CuFFT Plan Failure, temporary exit

I freed-up 1 of the 2 physical cores also, but still same problem.
Any ideas?... maybe cconfig_xml flags that might help?

I looked into why you were getting the Library Error instead of the Out of Memory Error with the CUDA App. Seems a while back the Server at C.A was changed and all the Downloads had to be reloaded, an older copy of the CUDA42 App was loaded, and that copy didn't have the Execute path set. It has been replaced with a copy that has the correct path now. I'll try the OpenCL App in a while and see how it runs.

Sorry for the late reply. Was out of town a few days. I'm getting a 404 error when trying to DL the corrected file.
http://www.arkayn.us/lunatics/setiathome_x41zi_x86_64-apple-darwin_cuda42.zip

I don't mind giving CUDA42 another try just for heck of it.
The r3711 SSE4.1 CPU app sure works good though on this lil 1.4ghz core 2 duo
Did you ever re-try the OpenCL app on your GTS250?

Thank you Tbar, TimeLord and Wiggo. The320m is Tesla compute capability 1.2 so the arch + Mavericks 10.9.5 is compatible up to Cuda 6 driver

I've played around with drivers 5.5 and 6 but get same errors.
The libraries were in the seti project folder within Boinc folder . Should I have put them in Boinc folder instead?

I was also getting "task pause" errors, Would run 18 secs, then pause with error, then retry in 2-3 mins...then pause again.
Endless cycle.

Any thoughts about downgrading OS to Snow Leopard and running Cuda 4.2 driver? : /

The OS you mention, (Mavericks), is just too old to do anything with for the
Anonymous Platform that TBar programs for...

As for CUDA42, that's ANCIENT now... With our newer task loads on
Non-Arecibo work, even CUDA50 has been reported to have Errors.
(Windows/Linux based Apps...)

In addition to Mavericks being too old now to work with, (outside
of the CPU Apps), your GeForce 320m I believe would be unusable
for the Anonymous Platform CUDAxx Apps.

I recommend MacVidCards, because they Pre-Flash the GPU
for MacOS for you.

TimeLord, Thank you for the excellent tips! This laptop is old but like new condition so I'll let it crunch with the best it can handle. Figured CUDA was off the table, but OpenCL maybe?
However, I'm specing out a new iMac which will allow to play with the newer Radeon apps.

Looking for some help if any fellow OSX gents / developers / testers can spare a few minutes?

I've been out of the OSX scene for a lil while and lots has changed the past few years.
Got an older laptop with gforce320m running Mavericks that want to run project.
Played around with Cuda 5.5 & 6 w/ Cuda42 ap but WUs pause or get run errors. The 256MB video memory may not be enough. I read some threads @ 2016 with a couple others that pointed out same.
Not sure if anyone ever got Cuda42 ap working on the older Tesla CC 1.2 cards?

Right now, just running CPU app below and it works like a charm on Macbook Air w/ Intel SU9400 Core 2 Duo 1.40. CPU supports sse41 but not AVX.
MBv8_8.22r3711_sse41_x86_64-apple-darwin

This OpenCL ap from main appears to run also.
SETI@home v8 v8.19 (opencl_nvidia_mac_old) x86_64-apple-darwin

Any newer MB ap builds avail for CPU or Open CL?
Can anyone share a recent OSX app_info w/ a matching Open CL section for main ap above?

Much Thanks!

Finally got something other than the old C2D iMac.

Haha. That 2006 T7200 iMac is still going thanks to a 2nd power supply now. I retired it from active Seti duty...mostly.
Donated the 2003 G4 MDD to my sons school last year after 11 years running. The Mrs. made me, lol.

Was curious to throw a new windows laptop on w/Broadwell cpu and see how the iGPU does.
Rather impressed by the modest lil thing so far.

Looking for some help in setting up Astropulse in app_info.xml

I have an i5-5300U 4-core (physical) w/ HD 5500 graphics. 24 execution units.
Does anyone know right balance of CPU cores settings to load the GPU to best performance?
How much free CPU does the GPU need?
Right now I'm running 2 WU instances on GPU.
Boinc computing preferences set to "On Multiprocessor systems, use at most 75%".

Boinc Manager Tasks shows "Running (.04 CPUs + 0.5 Intel GPUs)"

Should I use different values in GPU section for avg_ncpus and max_cpus?
Do I also need to add-in a similar section for the AVX app or let BOINC handle it?

I want to ensure the GPU gets enough free CPU, but not quite sure how much to dedicate to it.
Any help is appreciated! :)

You still have your old iMac I see, mine died of abuse a couple of years ago.

Haha, yeah. iMac is still soldiering away 8 years later after a new power supply this summer.
My wife this summer finally made me donate the 2003 Power Mac G4 1.25 MDD to my son's school.
Still looked new and ran Seti just fine. Was a Top 20 computer on Seti briefly almost 10 years ago when Alex first into'd his early hand-written Altivec optimizations and custom compiled binaries.
I think I recently read that the newest ARM processors and iPad A8X CPUs have about the same processing power now, lol and without the constant hum and blow dryer noise of that G4 at 100% CPU load.

As for the error. Gecko's computer is running Darwin 9.8.0 and Arkayn's is running Darwin 10.8.0. Perhaps who ever compiled the app made it accidentally require a newer version of OS X.

That could be it. If I'm reading the file name correctly: "ap_6.02r561_10.5+_OSX64" it looks like it requires 10.5 or greater.

But then again his logs report this:
Fri Jul 20 17:19:16 2012 | | OS: Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Darwin 9.8.0)

So is it 10.5+ for OSX or for Darwin? (mac version numbers are screwy imho)

OSX 10.5.x is Leopard OS.
OSX 10.6.x is Snow Leopard

I am running the final update of Leopard, 10.5.8 so if 10.5+ is the minimum, it should work.
A mystery.....

Are your libraries up to date?
And your computers are still hidden.

Thanks for the reply Wembley.
Computer isn't hidden. When I log out, I can see it.

Re: up to date libraries. Not sure.
Haven't had to update them in the past on OSX.
So, what library would need to be updated for this to work, and how to find?
IIRC, Arkayn has same rig as me, so if it's a library issue, should have affected his old warhorse as well???

The message log line 'output file absent' isn't really enough: it tells you that an error happened, but the devs are going to want to know what error, and why.

For that, they need access to the stderr_txt of a reported (errored) task - but your computers are hidden, so the vital information is inaccessible.

Please supply a TaskID or (preferably) HostID to enable diagnostics.

Thanks for the replies.
Computer is visible now.
I used the script to install, but get the same w/ manual install as well.
The application does show as intel unix executable, so that's not the issue.

Post:

MilkyWay is a different story. The GTS450 took about 20 minutes to crank out a separation task, the HD5850 does one in about 2 minutes. I do 90% Seti and 10% MW yet my RAC is twice as high on MW since I got the 5850.

Besides the rather apples/oranges performance disparity between the categories of cards w/ HD5850 = 2088 SP Gflops vs. GTS450 = 601 SP Gflops, keep in mind that MW uses double-precision processing (DP) and that 5850 DP performance is 1/5th it's SP flop rating, or 418 Glops. On the GTS450, DP performance is 1/12 of SP = 50 Gflops.

So, your 5850 has 8x the DP processing ability of the 450 vs. the 3.5x SP advantage it has at Seti that can't be fully exploited yet at the present development stage of ATI apps. Your ATI card and MW are perfect crunching partners.

However, The workstation version of the GTS450, the Quadro 2000, ( @$450.00 ) does DP at 1/2 of SP, so is rated for 240 DP Gflops.

Rough numbers would imply this card crunching MW @ 8 1/2 mins using 192 shaders @ 625Mhz core, 1250 Mhz shader clock.

Oh, & it's a relative power-miser too w/ a TDP of only 62 watts. Doesn't even use a 6-pin connector.
