Post: Raistmer, I just installed CUDA on my server running win server 2003, got a strange error with V7, this host and result: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=1151902080 "There are no child processes to wait for. (0x80) - exit code 128 (0x80)" What's up with that? Running stock 6.08 now... /Anton |

Post: The move went smoothly, installed the 64bit BOINC right away and copied over the 32 bit folder, then reinstalled the 64bit on top. Now on to get the GPUs working under x64. Have 2 out of 3 crunching. Seems to require some effort from the NVidia driver dev team...Murphy sould have been shot! *sigh* /Anton |

Post: Yes, make a copy of the boinc folder. On new install, install the boinc client and stop boinc. Copy the old BOINC folder on top. edit: don't forget it's the c:\documents and settings\all_users(or just you)\applicaiton data\boinc folder if you have boinc 6x /Anton |

Multiple CUDA Processors
(Message 855945)
Posted 21 Jan 2009 by mr.kjellen
Post: I have two GTX 295's on my eVGA X58 mobo. I have the two set physical cards set for SLI mode. Is there a way to get the CUDA enabled Boinc to address the second GPU on each card. I found out that Boinc (Cuda enabled) does not support SLI as SLI is not a true parallel interface of the GPUs. With SLI turned off, I get 2 processing threads in Boinc. But the 295's have 2 physical GPUs on each card via a FAT Parallel interface. However, I'm getting the same CUDA processing time from a GTX 295 as I from a GTX 280, meaning only one GPU is being addressed. This seems to be NVidias fault, the vista drivers are reported as not working properly...The Foldig and GPUGrid people are complaining as well. |

Quotas too small for GPU crunching
(Message 855933)
Posted 21 Jan 2009 by mr.kjellen
Post: Say Thierry, Of what makes are your GTX295s? I'm curious because several users of different projects report that the Nvidia drivers only let them use one core of each card. The EVGA cards are mentioned in particular. Do you have them working 2 WU/each at one time (for a total of 4)? Did you have to configure them in any way special? (sli/physix) I have a pair on the way as well and I am interested in knowing if WinXP x64 works...WinXP x86 apparantly works, Vista (x64 or x86) apparently does not. /Anton |

Post: Your RAC looks great. I have to re-start my CUDA once again and see what it can do. BTW, just had a look at the top host. 48 CPUs, just wondering what kind of setup that would be. Thanks...48 cores is a bunch for sure. I feel like a midget :) The midget-RAC is amazing though, wait a while for it to stabilize as it just might be a spike from the AP validator coming online again. |

Quotas too small for GPU crunching
(Message 855498)
Posted 19 Jan 2009 by mr.kjellen
Post: Maybe a better way would be to let the user process all of the units until the quoter is reached and then let the user download 10 or so at a time until it is reset at the end of the day. This does in no way contradict having a WU dl-quota for GPU cores. Let the work flow. The more the merrier! :) In ThierryH's case though, 10 units at a time would probably not be enough 'extra ration'...since he computes 12 in parallell... |

Random Musings About the Value of CPUs vs CUDA

Post: There is lots of manual work involved in investigations like tihs, and it would help a >LOT< if we had a value in the results describing GPU time...then it would be a trivial matter for Fred to bring out his DATAVAC excel file and examine the output. I can say this however. The times I counted there were ~320-330 files reported during a 24 hour period. I looked at my cache and got these timings for you for som different ARs AR 3,3 01/17/09 09:49:06|SETI@home|Starting task 05no08ad.18070.11934.9.8.236_0 01/17/09 09:53:44|SETI@home|Computation for task 05no08ad.18070.11934.9.8.236_0 finished AR 0.79 01/16/09 21:24:38|SETI@home|Starting 08no08aa.14123.1300.4.8.217_2 01/16/09 21:32:43|SETI@home|Computation for task 08no08aa.14123.1300.4.8.217_2 finished AR 0,467 01/17/09 01:14:20|SETI@home|Starting task 14no08af.21130.9479.12.8.165_25 01/17/09 01:24:45|SETI@home|Computation for task 14no08af.21130.9479.12.8.165_2 finished AR 0,378 01/17/09 06:20:12|SETI@home|Starting task 02no08ac.31941.23385.10.8.38_0 01/17/09 06:32:20|SETI@home|Computation for task 02no08ac.31941.23385.10.8.38_0 finished AR 0,12 01/17/09 01:24:45|SETI@home|Starting 08no08ab.14807.78154.8.8.96_2 01/17/09 01:42:27|SETI@home|Computation for task 08no08ab.14807.78154.8.8.96_2 finished Hope that helps...gotta run. /Anton |

Post:
At the time before I put CUDA on it wasn't on 24/7...more like running daytime...then RAC was at around 4000. It hit a high at around 6K when running flat out 24/7. Too bad the AP Validator is acting up. I was hoping the RAC woul level out soon. Judging from a look at boinc stats, north of 10K. /Anton |
