Aborted Units...Any solutions...
(Message 453761)
Posted 9 Nov 2006 by MJKelleher Post: In the past ten days or so I have aborted at least 10 units that were failing to compute correctly. As the units were being worked on the completion time was getting longer. Many, many hours of computer time were wasted which of course doesn't help the US NAVY TEAM in overcoming the Air Force team lead in total credits. Of the three computers I looked at, two are running BOINC version 5.2.13, and the third is 5.4.9. Current version is 5.4.11, with a 5.8.x version on the horizon. Have you considered upgrading to the most current production verion? MJ |

(Message 385469)
Posted 2 Aug 2006 by MJKelleher Post: This is how quotes are formatted over at Pirates@home. You can get some really weird pyramid looking formations. And the reduced font size is what Einstein@home changed over to not long ago. I just looked at Einstein's message board, it appears to have the same font size as SETI did before the change - bigger than is here now. QMC@Home has the smaller fonts all over their site, not just on the boards. Too small for my <whimper> ageing eyes. MJ |

I've logged the problem on the Q&A message boards on this side of the project, it's something they'll have to fix in Berkeley. Looks like somebody's playing with the code today, the default font is smaller than I've seen before. MJ |

rankingin WU
(Message 383436)
Posted 31 Jul 2006 by MJKelleher Post: There is no such ranking. Because of the differences in size in the work units, it's not really fair to count as equal the work that takes 15 hours to complete vs. the staticky work that finishes in a minute or less. Comparisons and ranking are calculated by cobblestones, which are the units you see in your credit number, and are based on the amount of work your computer actually does. MJ |

How do i Contact a SETI or BOINC manager for this program not just the forum??
(Message 381742)
Posted 29 Jul 2006 by MJKelleher Post: The "-108" error you're getting is described in the Wiki as: The file is "open" and in use by another process, or write access to the file cannot be obtained. Error Codes There's a gap in the send dates of the work showing for your computer. In that gap, did something change about the system you're on? It looks to me like BOINC don't have write-access to all the folders it needs to operate. Geek@Play's tips are good for getting you going quickly, but this problem needs to be resolved or you'll just see a lot more compute errors again. MJ |

Verbal IQ Translation
(Message 381739)
Posted 29 Jul 2006 by MJKelleher Post: It's possible that the OP misquoted the tester, who may have used the phrase "standardised test". The standard (norm) for these would be the performance of the general population on the same test, with the average defined as 100. For his question, we don't know what the average raw score would be on the test, nor the standard deviation, so can't tell how his score would translate to an IQ. MJ |
