1) Questions and Answers : Windows : BOINC Interfears with COM port communications (Message 6177) Posted 10 Jul 2004 by DJ Mark M Post: After installing Seti/Boinc client on a number of machines I have seen a similar and consistant fault on a number of them. I think this is a boinc BUG and needs to be addressed but I can't seem to find anywhere to report it. Scenario 1) PC is used to access a Unix box via a Serial link terminal emulation program. PROBLEM. When Boinc is running (as a service) Serial communications are interrupted and a terminal session cannot be established to the unix Box. RESOLUTION. Disable boinc and reboot. Scenario 2) LG mobile phone connected to PC via USB. Software driver creates virtual com port for the phone manager software to use when communicating to the phone. BOINC_GUI running. PROBLEM. Phone manager has difficulties communication with the phone. Up/Downloads to the phone fail. RESOLUTION. Suspend BOINC. Communication subsequently occurs normally. These errors do NOT occur with the classic CLI / Seti Driver combo.
