I don't see how bragging about how another platform "doesn't suffer from viruses" is intended to help the OP. Of course, the idea is to entice them to switch, but alas, the question wasn't "How do I get rid of Windows?", so I would think that it may not be an option.

Personally, I've been using eSet NOD32 for a few years now and I rather enjoy its low CPU utilization for its active background scanner because its written in Assembly, and it seems to have the best scanning protection around. They were voted number one in virus protection and scanning speeds for a couple years running.

For malware/spyware, I like to use a dual combination of Ad-Aware and Seek & Destroy (love the Metallica song by the same name too!). I have no problems on any of the machines I manage with this combination plus the AV scanner mentioned above.

this is what i used for a longtime.. eset/nod32 is not the best.. but good enough and as u get it with firewall now, it does a darn good work stopping attacks. and does not bother you to much. It has saved me at least 3 times.. and yes in combo with ad-aware you will be protected.. only problem is protection from root kits. well that was a problem when i used it.. it has prolly changed in latest version. Low footprint as mentioned above + a long history of making a-virus program (the original creators, as i remember, was active way back when amiga was active :) )

overall high score by me :)

yup lots of memories :) ...this will take a sidestep from actual thread i guess.. sry bout that.. os/2 warp was rather interesting.. but back then i didnt have time to configure it properly.. as i work at sea and other stuff that i wanted to do more had higher priority lol

yup only AP + cuda here also.. had some "normal" WU earlier
and computer placed normal ones together with AQUA WU as it should
are you connected to other projects chewie? and if so are they using processors as they should?

lol lots about looks here im and old fart that have seen windows grow up, and just wants it to work.. running win 7 rc wich i like a lot more than any of the vistas.. drivers seems to pop up also.. at least nvidia is on the go.. as i like to play games (i am using a dual boot with ubuntu 9.04.. I still dont trust windows to handle internet withour getting loads uf flues and stuff)
changeing btween O/s's r fast win 7 is ok allover sofar, nothing have caught my eye sofar (i dont care about the looks lol as u prolly can change it anyway you like anyway)

latest boinc is running somewat smooth on win 7. AQUA have had some errors but seems to work atm. but i guess we see over time.

happy computing.

Nvidia has the driver u need , and win 7 seems to eat it alive.. i get some wierd chnges in screensize to start with but all that is corrected even if one problem remains.. i have dual 8800GT but can only find one gpu in list.. well small problem.. win 7 should work better than vista it seems.. (ubuntu fan here though) :) Good luck!

hi I recently installed Win 7 Rc to compare a bit from old installation Ubuntu 9.04 on my desktop.. errors when running aqua started to show up

this is more of some piece to the error puzzle than a answer to origninal thread
hope it helps us both :)

27/05/2009 13:40:16 AQUA@home [error] Can't rename output file 26may09-128-2M-64-a_43_59_0_0 to projects/aqua.dwavesys.com/26may09-128-2M-64-a_43_59_0_0: Error 32

well since they havent got their cuda application on full speed i didnt think much of it.. but now the plague has spread to my seti calculations and that gets me a bit worried ;)

i can't find the error message in my log im afraid.. what happened it sort of finished 100% and timed out.. common when computing multiple projects? no release of resource btween WU?

* Added new workstation performance optimizations.
* Enabled the X Render "GlyphCache" by default.
* Disabled shared memory X pixmaps by default; see the“AllowSHMPixmaps" option.
* Fixed a regression that could result in window decorationcorruption when running Compiz using Geforce 6 and 7 series GPUs.
* Improved X pixmap placement on GeForce 8 series and later GPUs.
* Improved compatibility with recent Linux kernels.
* Improved stability on some GeForce 8 series and newer GPUs.

can this comp help u in any way?

as the kernel architecture is AMD with intel support it should be more or less same thing.. unless you want to try some AMD specific processor calls.. but that would be like dirty dancing lol

im all for that.. AP's r big cunks.. its nice to see quicker moving on ranking list, but more importand is to get maximum data calculated..

That will also somewhat solve storage problem of raw data ;)

I got meself a computer crash trying to fix craphic cards
Ubuntu 8.10 / nvidia. and as im totally new to linus i choosed the reinstall of os option.
Could someone at berkely pls be so kind to reset my todo workunit list.. i got graphic card fixed.. had to remove one of the Nv 8800 GT to get it to work.. but one is better than none.. however this changes me to a cuda user and i guess my last wu list is somewhat outdated

weak key: 223978_a8e8c4f9b5a5579f97ca0c1faef3727e to identify me

i am not totally sure it will work now with cuda and all but comp has accepted the card and we can go from there. as for now i cant communicate with project

Brgds Dagar

Edit spellcheck and confirm :yes boinc client recognizes cuda , all is well, running on 6.4.5 now

In my opinion, it's a marketing problem, not a technical one. Microsoft promoted ActiveX ... and it would be a huge corporate embarrassment to admit ...

I just wonder where the balance point will be between embarrassment, Marketing triumph, and insecure user backlash...

Meanwhile, it looks like Microsoft have been rushed into appearing to do something at least:

Microsoft plans quick fix for IE

All "good fun!"

Cheers,
Martin

I have passed that point lol ..Im so friggin old that i have seen windows grow up ..i got tired of the whole package

and luv not to see "your explorer is restarting" , you r not allowed to do this or that..

on Ubuntu now + Firefox ..with peace in mind and a warm fuzzy feeling ;)

Drivers for Linux are already out.. i have Dl them but not yet compiled new cores.. since im a bit rusty with linux still lol
you worry abt credits.. i see it as a good way to get this big chunks of AP done in decent time.. (i work at sea and don't want to leave unfinished work here as i go to irl work .)

well easyest way to deal with stats is prolly just to see them as additional cores.. board already calulates stats with included info regarding numers of cores in computer..
