Thankyou Admin/BOINC Dev for all the updates on NEWS feed
(Message 14974)
Posted 9 Aug 2004 by ![]() Post: sorry it wasnt meant to seem critical of your choices and i see where you all were coming from . I forgot that this project got out a little earlier than planned and forced you all to move faster to deal with the demands of the size of this project compared to some of the others faster than expected due to the quick and vast increase in users |

Posted 5 Aug 2004 by ![]() Post: I looked up some info on the snap appliance they are going to be moving the db to is it just me or do they appear to be lowballing some of their needs if your db is io bound why would you use an appliance that only using sata drives rather than scsi???Other than that it looks like a nice unit. well hopefully im wrong and we wont be hearing in two weeks that the new snap cant keep up with the read write actions on the db heres the info Accommodates up to 7 SD 30 Expansion Arrays for scalability up to 30TB · Hot-swappable Serial ATA (SATA) disk drives · Dual Intel Xeon processors with Symmetric Multi-Processing (SMP) capabilities · 2GB Double Data Rate (DDR) system memory · 512MB of battery-backed non-volatile memory · Industry-standard iSCSI support · Dual-Gigabit Ethernet ports · Redundant power and cooling · Pre-configured RAID 5 · Integrated Computer Associates eTrust antivirus software · Backup agent support for BakBone, CA, VERITAS and Legato · Available Ultra2 SCSI port for local tape backup |

xserve hostname problem
(Message 7475)
Posted 14 Jul 2004 by ![]() Post: I dont know how many people have experience with xserves but i run one at work and installed boinc on it o problem there. When it was reporting results it was just under localhost no big deal the hostname wasnt set so i go into terminal and change the hostname. Boinc shows the right hostname on the webpage all is good. Until i try to do a loopback for anything ... web pages, server admin, webmin, none of them recognize themselves. If i try localhost,127.0.0.1, the real ip address or the real hostname it is simply unable to connect. ANY IDEAS??? cause im stumped |
