1) Message boards : Number crunching : HELP!! AKA Broke-BOINC Mountain (Message 643224)

Post:
When one of my computers did the same thing as Pawly's, I installed BOINC to a different directory and attached to one project. It worked in the new directory so then I got to thinking it must be a project that we have in common on both our computers that I don't have on any other computer. After eliminating a couple of possibilities I found it to be vtu@home, they recently moved to a new site and they are a test project after all.

Here is how I fixed it:

Shut down BOINC

Go to your BOINC directory, in the project folder is a folder for vtu, it should have part of the url in it (boinc.vtu.lt_vtuathome). Move or rename the folder. I put '.tmp' at the end of the name.

In the BOINC directory there are 7 files:
account_boinc.vtu.lt_vtuathome.xml
job_log_boinc.vtu.lt_vtuathome
job_log_boinc.vtu.lt_vtuathome.txt
master_boinc.vtu.lt_vtuathome.xml
sched_reply_boinc.vtu.lt_vtuathome.xml
sched_request_boinc.vtu.lt_vtuathome.xml
statistics_boinc.vtu.lt_vtuathome.xml

rename them as well.

Start BOINC up, it should work now. I deleted the directory and files so I won't be able to recover the WUs, I also lost a few others experimenting but its all working now.

The projects are not listed because the manager is not attached, I have to stop them by editing files in the BOINC directory.

I now have uninstalled BOINC and installed to a new directory, there is no problem connecting. So I'm going to assume that one of the projects is causing the problem.

Is there anyway to transfer the work over from the previous install, I want to do one project at a time to see if I can get it to disconnect?

The correct way to install in a new directory.

1) STOP BOINC.
2) Move the entire directory tree to the new location.
3) Install the new version in the new location.

If you skip step 2, you are going to have a very difficult time recovering those WUs. The only way is major surgery of client_state.xml.

Is it possible to manualy stop a project?

I'm now having the same problem with one of my computers.

I don't use a firewall on the computer, I have one on my router and all other computers are connecting fine.

I use a service install of BOINC.

I just noticed a window open with seti beta screensaver running. Could this be part of the problem. I know Pawly runs the same project on his machine?
