The Project can't just exclude your ATi4 GPU without excluding All the Mac GPUs, so I'm told.
The Best action would be to manually Exclude your ATi4 from SETI, that way you could possibly use the GPU somewhere else. You do that with a cc_config.xml file in your BOINC Data folder.
You need to use a BOINC compatible .xml file, the easiest way to get one of those if you don't have one is to Duplicate an existing BOINC .xml file and then change the name and replace the contents.
The cc_config.xml file needs to be in /Library/Application Support/BOINC Data. Go there and Duplicate global_prefs.xml using TextEdit, change the name of the Duplicate to cc_config.xml and replace the contents with the following;

<cc_config>
    <log_flags>
    </log_flags>
    <options>
        <exclude_gpu>
             <url>http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/</url>
             <device_num>0</device_num>
             <type>ATI</type>
             <app>astropulse_v7</app>
        </exclude_gpu>
        <exclude_gpu>
             <url>http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/</url>
             <device_num>0</device_num>
             <type>ATI</type>
             <app>setiathome_v8</app>
        </exclude_gpu>
    </options>
</cc_config>

Then restart BOINC and your problems should be over, once it finishes trashing all your remaining GPU tasks.
You can see more about the cc_config file here, http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Client_configuration

Thank you TBar!
This add-on cc_config.xml file resolved my SETI@home ATi4 series GPU computational error problem.

TBar [UPDATE]...
About two hours after I made these changes and restarted BOINC Manager, nine more GPU computation errors occurred. Is this something that may take more time to work or did these changes not fix the problem? Also, I still have "Use GPU always" selected if that makes any difference. Oops [UPDATE 2]... disregard first update, I discovered and fixed a typo that I made in the first line of your script. Restarted and continuing with the test.

You are getting these errors.

WARNING: This application needs newer GPU, at least ATI Radeon HD 5000 needed, exiting !

Your GPU is not supported.

You're right Mike, and even though I previously ruled out installing a HD 5000 for cost vs performance reasons, I am now faced with replacing all the fans in this aging Mac that has been crunching 24/7 since 2009. So, while it's all opened up on the bench, I might just do the GPU upgrade anyway. I might even switch to a SSD as I've already had one HDD failures since 2009.

Thank you TBar! ...for taking your time to make this so simple for me. I'm not software or even script literate. Your easy instructions completed flawlessly and I will know if this fixes my ATI4 GPU computation error problem after the next few grouped task downloads over the next 24 hours. I will update here immediately after I know for sure.

Cheers,
Mike

Hello everyone!

WHY only 2008 tasks for many consecutive months and WHY do 20% of these automatically error "100.000 Computation error (0.244 CPUs + 1 AMD/ATI GPU)" immediately after downloading? If I suspend GPU, same computation error still occurs but then I must manually abort each to get them off the window. Is this fixable or normal or am I caught in a loop?

I'm using late 2009 27" 16GB 2.8 GHz Core i7 iMac Sierra 10.12.8 ATI Radion HD 4850 512 Mb with BOINC Manager 7.8.2 wxWidgets Version 3.0.0.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Is there a newer project more likely to find ET that I can switch to? Is it possible to request only blc tasks?

Mike

Thanks Mike. I previously searched and found an upgrade to a ATI Radeon HD 5000 (https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iMac+Intel+27-Inch+EMC+2309+or+2374+Graphics+Card+Replacement/9553) but the reviews said the increase in speed would be "barely noticeable" and expensive. So, the upgrade to a 5000 series would only be needed to run BOINC and I can't justify the cost just to add the GPU to my 88% CPU crunching speed. Oh well.. :(

Dont know if this BOINC snapshot.png will work but here goes anyway.

Hello everyone!

Long time GPU problem since a previous BOINC update - not intermittent.

Running BOINC 7.6.22, ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB R700GPU, iMac 2.8 GHz Core i7 (late 2009) OS X 10.11.6 16GB 1067 MHz DDR3.

I'm guessing that somewhere during previous BOINC updates, my GPU became incompatible with BOINC and I haven't found any GPU patches to make it compatible.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you Gary.

Is there a reason that the words "beta" and "join" are blue links not relative to the subject and will that be corrected so others will be directed to the correct page OR at least remove the links that those two words are connected with.

Even better - add your last reply to your original post about this beta.

Cheers,

When I click "beta" or "join" links in your post, it does NOT take me to a JOIN page. It takes me to an unrelated page that has nothing to do with the ATI 4xxx HD beta.

My iMac late 2009 uses ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB and I've tried everything to join the beta test without success. Within the subject matter, whenever I click "beta" or "join", it takes me to pages that have nothing to do with this ATI Radeon 4xxx beta. This includes the "beta" and "join" in the post paste below.

Eric Korpela post: "We need some Mac users with ATI Radeon HD4000 series card to help the beta test before we can release that version. So if you've got an HD4XXX GPU, please join the beta."

I wonder how many others besides me haven't been able to find a way to join this beta.
