发表于:11 Aug 2017 作者: SciManStev ![]() Post: I know the average person in North Korea doesn't have access to real information about the outside world, but Kim and those closest to him surely do. I have trouble understanding the rationale for Kim continuing an isolationist policy for his country when he knows things could be much better for all the citizens(including himself) if he'd open up and play nice with everybody. Because without a constant enemy, they have no reason to exist. As long as we are perceived as a threat, they are happy, and feel justified to continue on. Their people would revolt if there wasn't an enemy that they needed protection from. Iran is the same way, but they are very ambitious, which is far more dangerous than isolated Kim, who is mostly concerned about his own survival. Steve |

发表于:10 Aug 2017 作者: SciManStev ![]() Post: I have read numerous assessments of what a war would look like with NK. None of them are pleasant. Also, the logistics have not been set up. That takes months to get going. Perhaps 3 carrier groups in the area, many more troops in SK, fueling and resupply lines have to be established. Militarily, we would defeat NK, but the initial contact would be lobbing missiles at each other, and if theirs are nuclear, then whether their targeting system are any good or not, potentially millions could die, and radioactive clouds would circulate world wide. Beginning the logistics build up, may trigger a NK response, before we were ready. They are already ready. Their artillery positions would devastate SK, with 10's of thousands dying in the first hour. Then the really big wildcard, is if China gets involved. That would change things in a really, really bad way. Doing nothing is an uncomfortable option as well, but I think it may be the best. We allow NK to establish their weapons, and either ignore their boasts, or engage them in a positive way. The only reason they can still exist, is because they tell their people that the US is a constant threat. Like Iran, NK can't afford to allow peaceful investments and cooperation from the west. Their virtual enemy would vanish, and their reason for existence right along with it. As I have stated before, NK has not shown ambition to take over the world, or even attack its neighbors. It's moves have been to ensure the survival of the regime. I think hat getting to know an enemy, then working with them is a far safer solution than any form of military confrontation. One could reason that with all the nuclear potential, NK could attack us. Well, so could China, and Russia, but they don't. It might be better to try our best to learn about our enemies, and understand what their real fears are. I tend to think that the real fear for both NK, and Iran, is normal interactive relations with the west. That could collapse both regimes. These are terrible, cruel regimes, and letting them off the hook, may seem like it is against what we stand for, but it may be the best way to enact positive change. A war where potentially millions could die, radioactive clouds floating around the earth, and infrastructure collapse doesn't sound like a workable alternative to me. Perhaps, as in the movie War Games, the only winning strategy is not to play. Steve |

I will be taking pictures of wildlife and scenery and posting them here. Guessing from where I will be riding, I should see moose. This machine will give me access to some very interesting habitats. I will have a video camera, and post to YouTube. I am actually extremely excited about this. Steve |

Mine will be here about the first of October, and I can't wait to drive it into a lake. I will also have a 9.9 hp outboard on it, so I can move across larger lakes. I have always wanted one, and it's finally going to happen! Steve |

发表于:2 Aug 2017 作者: SciManStev ![]() Post: For safety, I would recommend removing the fish first, because silicone sealants do produce gasses as they cure, that might be absorbed by the remaining water. The sealant may be safe for the fish, but the gasses released may not be. Also, that way you would be certain that the adhesive would be applied in dry conditions. What size is the aquarium? Steve |

That helps me also. My father always wanted me to prepare for the future, and not concentrate on fun things. It was all academics at school. Seldom were any of the things I did good enough. I have felt guilt about the things I am planning now, but in a way I realize that this is the future I was always planning for, even though I could not have achieved them without his help after his death. I will just make the best decisions I can. Steve |
