Yes, you can run 2/card with the GTX 460/768.

Yes, you can run two GTX 460/768 cards in one machine. I am running them on WIN 7 platform, but I'm certain that Vista 64 will work as well and probably XP64.

I am currently cranking out 4 units every 21:48 on average, but that may still be dropping slightly as the cards settle out.

Both cards are severely overclocked at 850/1700MHz processor and 1950MHz memory
{EVGA's SSC--super, superclock--speed). One of them is a base EVGA 460/768 card and the other is an SSC card. The SSC card has an extra heat sink and runs about 8C cooler (58C vs. 66C) than the base card at that speed.

CPU loading is ~94% on each card and memory usage is 612 Mb on each card. I am running the fans on manual at 70%

Well, I decided to cut both back to 1 unit at a time to lower the stress on my boards. Gave me a 4 degree drop in temps.

It'll be interesting to see what happens to my RAC over the next couple of days. I should be getting my second GTX 460/768 on Wednesday.

By the way, my 512MB 9800GTX+ was using "609 MB" of memory according to my EVGA Precision tuning program . . . interesting.

Yeah, BeNT,

Problem was, my 460 GTX was faster at 2x than the two cards were at 1x. That's why I settled for this arrangement.

Good thing is, I finally managed to scrape enough cash to order a second 460, so in about a week, I should really be crankin'! :)

Back to the original topic . . .

I have now had enough results verified that I feel comfortable in declaring this experiment a success . . . averaging 4 units about every 36 minutes.

Until I can get another GTX 460, I'll keep running the 9800 GTX+. My RAC is up over 15500 and still climbing. I expect it to reach about 17-18000.

That's a nice gain from an outdated idle card.

Paul, there is a work around for installing XP mode in Win 7 Home Premium:

The 460/768 is running at 850/1700 core/shader and 2000 memory . . . pretty much maxed out on OC'ing

The 9800GTX+ is running stock at 738/1836 and 1100.

Every thang is rock steady, y'all.

So far it's looking like an over all boost of 33% in my production.

With the 460 I was averaging 2 units every 20 minutes, or 6 units/hr.

The 9800+ is averaging 2 units in about 56 minutes, say 2/hr, so I've gone from 6/hour to 8/hour.

I can live with that. :) Beats just having the card sit around gathering dust.

I had tried just running one unit per card a while ago, but the 460 by itself running 2 at a time was faster than 1/card using both cards.

Now the only question is if it is generating good results and for that I have to wait until they can be reported in.

Boy, this is exciting . . . okay, so I'm easily entertained. :)

GPU 0 (the 460) is running 63C at 90%
GPU 1 (the 9800) is running 65C at 84%

Keeping both fans on manual at 80%.

Hey, I even watched a movie while they were both running with no difficulty.

Well, it looks like the old 9800 GTX+ will run two units in about 1 hour to an hour and ten minutes and my GTX 460/768 is running 2 units in 20 minutes as it has been doing.

GPU temps are 65 and 67 and usage hovers around 90%.

I should add that I am running an AMD 955 BE on one of those MSI Fuzion boads that uses the Lucid HydraLogic circuitry and there appears to be some load sharing going on between the two boards on occassion . . . don't know it that is real or not.

Anyway, things look stable for now. Definitely can feel the additional heat from the second board.

Been running 2 at a time and my RAC is pushing 14,000 for GPU only (of course now it will take a hit with the uploader down)

It's an EVGA GTX 460 768 OC'd to 850/1700 2000 Been running it that way a long time.

I have been running a GTX 460 doing two units at a time. I decided to put my old (non-Fermi) 9800 GTX+ board in but did not remember to go back to single unit runs.

Now here's the deal, both cards show progress in 2 units. Honest to God the 9800 GTX+ is doing two units at a time and each unit is showing different progress as you would expect.

They are running at a little less than half the rate of the two that the 460 is cranking them out . . . say 45-50 minutes t completion.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Any ideas???

Yes, there are 4 way sli boards out there, but if you're looking for an AMD compatible, I think you are out of luck.

There are a number of them for Intel processors. EVGA has the EVGA x58 Classified (model no. 170-BL-E762-A1 )

Ok well I now have Fermi work and the new GPU is processing, but still the other 260 is not being used. So how do I solve that matter.?

Don't see the problem here. I've had pages and pages of stalled transfers before and the always get cleared up. If you keep your cache large enough to bridge through these minor inconveniences, then you will eventually get the credit and have plenty of work.

If you can't stand that, then move to another project. If you keep a couple of projects on your list with zero % resource share, then should the unthinkable happen and you run out of SETI units, your BOINC will switch to one of those other projects.

For me, the happy balance is CUDA for SETI and CPU for AQUA, with Einstein on reserve. Plenty of work, plenty of points.

Just take a chill pill. It's all good.

I discovered that the 9800 was trying to run two-well actually it appeared to be doing so, but I went back to singles when I saw that.

Now I'm running one/card.

Yeah, wow. I figured the 9800 would be about as fast as the 460 one a single unit, but it seems to be about half as fast.

It appears that I get about as much work done with the 460 doing doubles as I get with both cards doing singles, and it places a lot less heat load on my machine . . . oh well . . . guess I'll go back to the 460 running doubles and save up my pennies for another 460.

Again, thanks for all the input guys.

Hi folks,
I'm running a GTX 460 768mb card using Lunatics_Win64v0.37_AP505r409_AKv8bx64_Cuda32f. Getting good results with running 2 units at a time.

Now the problem. I added my old 9800GTX+ figuring to boost my output a fair amount. Instead I'm getting the message:
12/16/2010 7:18:17 PM NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce GTX 460 (driver version 26099, CUDA version 3020, compute capability 2.1, 738MB, 363 GFLOPS peak)
12/16/2010 7:18:17 PM NVIDIA GPU 1 (not used): GeForce 9800 GTX+ (driver version 26099, CUDA version 3020, compute capability 1.1, 488MB, 470 GFLOPS peak)
12/16/2010 7:18:17 PM SETI@home Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform

HOw do I activate my second card?
Both show up on NVidia control panel and are available for Physix.
Obviously this is a non-SLI arrangement.

System
AMD 955BE OC'd 3.69GHz
MSI Fuzion 870A MB / 8GB OCZ mem 533MHz
1 X GTX 460
1 X 9800 GTX+

Can't figure this one out.

Thanks,
Will
