It's been a great run Eric. I joined with a 386dx4 in May of '99, and I've been active since. While I may swap over to another project, rest-assured my computers will ALWAYS be linked to SETI@Home if and when you fire it back up.

I'd requested an XL, but had to go "out of country" until today...I take it I missed out?

Yeah, I know it's not that big a number compared to many others, but my computers went over 3 million work-units last night!

Thank you again MacPros!

I got this as 'payment' for fixing up a computer for an older couple in my neighborhood. They wanted a desktop, and I had a bunch of parts, so I built one that they could use and they insisted I bring this little iBook home.

I know literally nothing of MacOS operation, so this has been a challenge for me so far! I guess I should go get a "...for dummies!" book now!

I uninstalled then reinstalled BOINC 6.12.35.

The manager came up immediately, connected automatically, and appears to be running normally. Thank you all for your help. I'll let you know how it behaves!

Thanks for moving this to an appropriate 'room'. I wasn't sure where to post so I picked the least-defined room to start!

First, this is an older iBook G4.

Second, the install went fine, but opened directly to the BOINC manager, which(in simple view) gives me the following:

"Error: Unable to connect to the core client"

and a popup window which states:

"BOINC Manager - Connection Status

BOINC Manager is not currently connected to a BOINC client. Please use the 'Advanced\Select Computer...' menu option to connect up to a BOINC client."

I go there, set the computer name to 'localhost', apply my password, and select 'connect'.

And continue to get the "BOINC Manager - connection status" popup window.

I have an older Mac laptop I just got. I know very little of Mac OS, but was able to get a version of BOINC installed. My problem is how do I get it to connect to SETI? Can anyone provide a step-by-step 'checklist' for getting it up and running? Thanks!

I have noticed some slowdowns while running BOINC. They occur ONLY when I select "full time" use of the processors in my computers, so it's no bust on the programmers...I KNOW it's going to slow down my computer. I have also noticed a substantial loss of video frame-rate with the GPU enabled if I'm playing WoW, or Eve.

Aside from that I've been running SETI@Home for a while, utilizing desktops, laptops, and one OLD quad-server(all purchased by me...cough cough). I've used Intel 286 through Core2Duo Centrinos, AMDs, VIAs, NECs, and even one of the old 586 Cyrix. All ran flawlessly to the day I retired them, or sold them, or gave them away. I have yet to experience any unanticipated issue running SETI@Home or BOINC.

Seems like a lot of dirt-throwing is going on, and that several decent careers have ended as a result.

This is obviously all William Gates' fault for scamming IBM out of DOS...
