You can use an app_info.xml file to select either Astropulse-only or Multibeam-only, even if you don't use optimized clients.

This may or may not work right now... I have a PS3 that is attached with only AP in it's app_info.xml, but it now has 8 ghost enhanced [edit] Multibeam [/edit] WUs that the project tried to send it. I just detached and re-attached to try to free up the WUs. I don't know if this is somehow specific to the PS3. Just something to consider.

23) Message boards : Number crunching : Pending WUs -- How long will/can they remain pending? (Message 792891)
Posted 4 Aug 2008 by Profile Dr. Bob
Post:
Hello,

Running over my log of completed tasks, I'm seeing a couple of WUs that, almost a week after my completion, are still listed Pending (based on having not been completed by the other system assigned to that WU). Now, should the other system never complete work on that particular unit, will it ever be re-assigned to another system, or will it stay in limbo permanently? And if it should be reassigned later, how long would it be before that would occur?

If the other host does not complete the WU and return it by the deadline date, or returns and invalid result, it is then reissued to another host. Then you wait again. If the same thing happens with the new host, it would be sent to yet another host.....etc.
So you see, things can be in pending status literally for months sometimes depending on when somebody else turns in a valid result to match up with yours.

Hi all, yup probably explains my 600+ credit total pending a day or so ago...but now things are up and running again...think that pending will go down...thanks to the tireless workers at SETI who have things going again!

Hi all, apparently the servers also include those with Einstein for my Intel and Power PC Macs...problem was noted earlier in July for SETI but then thought it was corrected. Seems to have migrated to Einstein at least for me. Best of luck to the SETI/Boinc folks in finding that squirming bug!

Hey Luke!

Congratulations! You have crossed the finish line ahead of me with your 39,000+ amount! I am still at something less than 30,000--but a lot of pending credit may take me closer.

A good race...as I said in an email, I learned a lot about computer and server operations from this...and it was fun.

You win the New Zealand/US St. Louis certificate! I will forward a certificate to you through email..

.Just wait until next year!

Desktop is now fine, but laptop hasn't got any WUs. Hopefully all will be back to normal soon.

Everything uploads and downloads for me are now working.

Mine are working fine now also.

My RAC has now dropped more then a thousand and >45K pending . . .
Even, bacause it's cooler weather, have my OC's on 2 rigs, set higher.
It's 10C cooler, so a bit warmth from the 'crunchers' is only nice ;^)
UP- and DOWNload's are working as well, for now at least!?
But, at this speed, i'll be at 2 Million Credits by the end off this month, i think ;^)

=========

Everything is down here for about 12 hours...no downloads of new work..

Hope things get back to normal...

Also of mention:

1) "Dualappie" Passed 20,000 credits
2) "Celeron" Passed 8,000 credits

Was gonna' try for a record RAC (needs to beat 622) and continuous running record. Set the Task scheduler to turn off at 1:30 AM, which would have beaten my previous continuous running record by 2 hours, but alas, at 10:30 PM, thunder and lightning, right over my town. So I did a shutdown. I'll try again tonight.

Luke.

Luke,

Think I will have to run machines 24/7 to even get close; we shall see. Other older G-4 online and crunching. Seems to work fine and SETI Database seems to recognize it, even with other corrected name. My Home LAN recognized older machine but gave it a new correct name. Amazing...

Hi,

Yeah, I was trying to get it work using an admin account. It is my own computer, I better be an admin. Apparently, Vista believes that it should be more confident in itself than the owner. That is a scary precedent. Just watch, I bet malware will take advantage of UAC in preventing (novice) users from fixing their own machines. (If it hasn't already.)

Unfortunetly, I need Windoze on at least one computer otherwise I would just run FreeBSD. I dropped Vista like a bad habit and installed WinXP Pro on it. Everything works fine again.

Vista sucks!

These boards have saved me again...was thinking about trying Vista on one of my machines but will keep XP64.

=============
I was going Vista, too...after seeing the problems, I think Tuesday it will NOT be installed on my Compact 64 bit but rather restore the original drive config after a new drive is installed. Thanks for your posts and comments.

Well, last night I hit 600 RAC, now at 581.

Oh Well....

EDIT: Now at 602... another high...

======================
Sounds good to me Luke...contratulations! You are way above me as I was aiming for about 150 RAC and now have about 170 for SETI. Very pleased with my four machines; two do SETI; one splits work with Einstein and another does Einstein alone. Everyday, I let them run on my home LAN. Probably will add two more machines to the mix, shortly.

Am approaching 25,000 units total for SETI; had earlier credits, too. So am crunching along...about 3-4 hours average, almost daily each machine.

Home LAN: iMac Intel, 2.4 GHz processor, real speed demon and workhorse, SETI/Einstein; Compact laptop, 1.5 processor, SETI; eMachine, 2.2 processor, SETI; and iBook, .90 GHz (?) processor, Einstein alone. Hope to add older G-4 Mac, .850 GHz processor and older Compact laptop, 2.0 (?) processor--not sure yet how I will divide Einstein/SETI between the new adds to the LAN.

I would be happy to approach 250 RACs for SETI when I get the other older machines in the mix. Like my better half notes, we never get rid of computers just add them to the LAN and do more and more BOINC.

Congratulations again to you Luke and others on their scores!

Best,

Dr. Bob

Shurely shome mishtake shomewhere?????

How can such figures get generated?! Me and my pending credit are quite happy chugging along between 1,300 and 1,600. I just sit in purest awe at you guys with the megafigures.

My view remains that things seem very stable all round these days at Berkeley with results going out and coming back in really quite nicely, never mind the odd crash or Tuesday times out.

Opps...misread the pendings....used the CPU minutes instead! Duh...about 200 pendings, not so bad at all...I looked at that and thought surely couldn't be correct...thanks for catching...

I'd volunteer to be a wingman on that 9,000 second WU. :-)

============
Interesting, my "Pending Credit" changed dramatically after the last crash somewhere in 15-17 May 08 of the Database. Perhaps 6-8 of my WUs are now classified as "client error". While I didn't check the unit or the computer it looks like some are being redone.

My pendings are now a very high 46,000+; whereas before I think almost all of my pendings were resolved. I suspect the Database is checking and maybe recalculating those older WUs; at least I hope so. The wingmen for me also had some problems, I suspect--and I as wingman caused some when my units crashed, also.

I will watch to see how the changes are resolved. In any case I can just imagine the SETI Team having to deal with this type of crash; they should get a reward for their efforts in resolving and getting things back up. Thanks!

Doesn't sound very good does it? In US I complain about a $100/month electric bill. We have some exterior lighting that is on every night from 7-10PM about 6 flood lights (thinking about replacing with newer efficient bulbs) but very low watt landscape lights...some are solar powered but problem is with batteries that just don't last through weather.

With my computer Farm (borrowed term, very descriptive), win xp, desktop + laptop; 2.4 and 1.8 speed; super iMac 2.4 along with old, old, Toshiba laptop...less than 1 speed; and iBook, G4 all working maybe average 3-4 hours/day (Some machines longer) I have often wondered about power usuage. Will have to see if I can locate a meter to monitor that; doubt if it is much effect, compared to some of numbers here, but interesting to check to see, however.

Since increasing use of more computers in my "Farm", certainly have seen increases in credits.

Good info on this thread! Thanks,

Dr. Bob

LOL...I honestly don't remember when I started classic SETI with my old Apple IIe...but it was a long time ago. As I remember, I let SETI go until the Macs came out and then started it running again. Now, five machines Win/Macs are now crunching here at home.

Congratulations to all for nine years or more!

Not to worry, Mike, E.T. is listening, too. Perhaps ET hasn't decided it is the right time to make contact; maybe some confusion about the question of intelligent life on earth--(smiling)

Hi all,

Getting there slowly, but maybe most important thing is keeping onand keeping on! Great numbers here for everyone--Congratulations!

My stats: "...by Total Credit and by Recent Average Credit
1. World Rank 348,956 out of 1,351,255
(74.1754 percentile)

2. RAC 138,725 out of 1,351,255
(89.7336 percentile)..."

The percentile ranking for Recent Average Credit approaches the 90th. At that rate, catching up will occur, however very slowly. Since I am adding more computers to crunch numbers things are looking up. This is a milestone of importance for me especially since I started this activity on my old Apple IIe many years ago.

Again, congratulations to all...

Dr. Bob
