I had looked at that thread. While it is the same subject, it is a differant issue.

Yes I do have one PC running the 2 projects, but I have yet to return an Einstein result. Yours and Richards comments suggests that once I have returned a result, the 2 systems will notice that fact and update one or both. Can anyone confirm this ?

I have just registered with Einstein using the same email address as with Seti, yet I have differant Cross Platform IDs.

Does this get corrected during some consolidation process or has it failed ?

It is sorted by Account Number.
That is determined by:
Seti@Home accounts sorted by number of WUs processed at the time of the first data splurge..
followed by New Accounts sequencially as created.

Thats why it often looks like number of results, because the hi-powered S@H users are often the hi-powered BOINC users.

The new supercomputer chugs along at 70tf, the original seti project is currently a meagre 68tf

Your WUs are credited when the server has 3 results that match.

BOINC will be using the Seti email that had when they transferred the data ages ago.
If/When they do another transfer your old Seti account could then be reactivated, but that is not likely to happen again until they close down Seti@Home. By then your new account will have plenty of credit to be proud of.
:(

Fraid not. Either :
1) Carry on with your new account
2) Activate your old one, detatch from the project and attatch using the id they send.

Its a bummer, but old Seti was the same. I had a well used account registered to my works email, then I left without recording the password and had to set up a new ID.

So rather than risk a few credits (most WUs are uploading correctly) you are prepared to run unreleased software and risk a total FUBAR of the whole system. Does 4.12 communicate with the current live server software correctly ? Is the science valid ? Is the results file compatable with the Validator ? You dont know, in fact you dont have a clue.
The BOINC boys are doing a good enough job at messing this up on their own, its one area they DONT need any help.

Run the specified release !

There are 2 bits of software the Core (Currently 4.09) and the Seti Client (Currently 4.05), allthough the version numbers are similar, they dont really have anything to do with each other.

The Seti bit WILL auomatically get upgraded for you
The Core wont (yes they should send an email when required but do not)

The idea is that once it works, the Core is never changed, and the individual science projects release new Clients whenever they like.

You are right to be confused, unless you follow the winge boards closely (and there is no reason why you should have to). It has allready been suggested that the version numbers should be totally differant.

LOL - Thanks, that cheered me up no-end.

I love the Berkley Lads and their buds around the world. I know they work their asses off. I know they have brains the size of a planet. BUT my advise to them is "Stay in Academia". If they dealt with users like this in a real world project, they wouldnt make it thru their probation period.

Come one lads, just a note saying you are looking into it is plenty !

Note: No threats to leave, no winges about "my time", I will support them till the bitter end [probably]

I have just monitored what happens.
The results ARE uploaded to the server (I saw the progress bar progress to 100%)
Then there is a pause of 30 seconds or so before the usual

SETI@home - 2004-10-08 16:26:42 - Permanently failed upload of 25ap04aa.185.21504.940902.194_4_0
SETI@home - 2004-10-08 16:26:42 - Giving up on upload of 25ap04aa.185.21504.940902.194_4_0: server rejected file

This in on XP Pro, I have an XP Home machine that has been successfull today.

The last I heard, they were waiting for some new web servers to be delivered. This was also the reason why XML wasnt output. Heavy web usage is earmarked for the new kit and has to be turned off on the current kit to be able to handle the mission critical bits.

I have had this several times recently, and have noticed that while boinc-gui is a happiply running task, the setathome task isnt on the taskmanager list. Exit BOINC and relaunch and it continues happily.

It may be coincidental, but this only appears to happen when my machine is getting a damned good hammering like playing Doom3 or transcoding video streams

With a few stats we could make a good guess:

Number of Units available for issue
Number of Units issued in last hour/day
Number of Results received in last hour/day

And/Or... When its down or flakey (like it has been for weeks) say so. Only say its working again when it really IS.

It is extremely frustrating to see "It's been fixed" messages, but still not be able to get any Units.
