Script for starting/stopping Boinc
(Message 872)
Posted 23 Jun 2004 by Charles Dennett
Post: When I first joined Boinc Beta, I wrote a script to stop/start/restart Boinc. It is used at boot time to start Boinc and put it in the background, although it can be used at any time. I wrote it for my RedHat 9 system. There is a section in the script where you would customize it for your situation. Installation and usage instructions are in comments in the code. If you are familiar with how boot scripts work, you should have no problem. The script works for me on my system. YMMV. The script can be grabbed from: http://www.dennett.org/boincctl I had made it available to the Beta gang so I figured I'd make it available here, too. Charlie |

Post: I've been a Boinc Beta participant for several months and latched onto Boinc/SAH when word of it "leaked". When I first joined each of these projects, I added my account ID for each into the web site and checked the box telling it to remember me. All was fine. I could access my account info for either site. All of a sudden that is no longer the case. If I set my account ID into one, it "forgets" the other. Why? I'm wondering if it "remembers" me using cookies and the cookie from one overwrites the cookie from the other. EDIT: Looks like there's a cookie for each one and contains the account ID for that project. I'm running RedHat 9 and using Mozilla's Firefox as my browser. Have already tried deleting all the cookies and logging into each project's web site again. That did not fix the problem. Charlie |

Another copy of BOINC is already running
(Message 650)

Post: If you are sure there really is no other boinc or SAH process running, simply cd to the directory where you run boinc and remove the file called "lockfile". The boinc code client creates this file when it runs to signal it is running. It should remove it when it terminates normally. However, if it does not terminate normally, it may leave it hanging around. |
