Virtue-L Friend Request ??
(Message 1845934)
Posted 2 Feb 2017 by PsiberMan
Post: Ok, thanks... I've had requests before; I just never had one show up in the BOINC message panel. How does one do that, anyway ? Knowing that it is a person making the request, I understand the implications, thanks so much. But since it looked like a request from the SETI hardware enclave ("The Virtue-L Computer"), it was entirely confusing and misleading. Not sure I want a friend that refuses to eschew obfuscation. |

Virtue-L Friend Request ??
(Message 1845930)
Posted 2 Feb 2017 by PsiberMan
Post: I have this message in my Boinc Notices panel that says, SETI@home: Friend request The Virtue-L Computer has requested friendship with you. Please accept or decline. There is no other information that I can find regarding this request. What are the implications of accepting? Declining? I have searched for Virtue-L Friend Request but the message boards show nothing with these search terms. Thanks |

New SETI@home donation project on Bitcoin Utopia
(Message 1841492)
Posted 11 Jan 2017 by PsiberMan
Post: I'm delighted to see and/or hear about the project benefiting from this strange animal, "bitcoin". My interest was piqued because I heard that all of my 16 years of computing power I spent on SETI@Home numbercrunching could conceivably help me get a vehicle for personal transportation. I spent about 90 minutes trying to research and understand what it is and how it has "value". I got no practical, real-world understanding of it. Marzeedoats and doezeedoats... From what I just read. even cursorily, about 5 bitcoins got you guys down in the mines, at the heart of the matter, a new disk drive. That's what delights me, in truth, and with all serious gladness. So maybe you could help me understand ... Am I wrong in believing that there is some way to use my 51,259 hours to help me with buying a car, motorcycle, or a trip to middle USAmerica to see the solar eclipse this summer...? Of course, I'll settle for a pointer to some place where the whole concept of bitcoin is clearly explained without reference to philosophical topics or concepts? --Thanks! |

Merging two accounts - not possible. What about my 10+ years of credit?
(Message 1830727)
Posted 15 Nov 2016 by PsiberMan
Post: There doesn't seem to be a way to continue this conversation in the same thread, so it seems I must start a new one to get the final answer. I understood everything you told me the first time and the second time a year later. But my primary question still remains unanswered. I have two "accounts" both have the same username, PsiberMan, but wish to use my primary email address which came up more than 10 years after starting. You tell me that I cannot merge the two accounts, that I should log into to account I want to get credit for. What happens to my old credits? Do I lose over ten years' worth of computing credit because I want to change my account? Does my diligence and commitment to a project mean so little? I don't really care about the small amount of credit that the newest account has, but it does matter to me if I lose my stake in more than 17 years of processing. The email address under which I have the most credit is going to be destroyed shortly, and I will not be able to receive mail there any longer. Is there any way to continue processing without a valid email address? What if I forget my password? |

Two Accounts, But One Gets The Credit...
(Message 1807831)
Posted 7 Aug 2016 by PsiberMan
Post: Seti@Home was the first project I joined up with, practically at it's inception. Other projects followed, but by then I had established a more meaninful email address. All the subsequent projects have the same email address. At some point, maybe around 2004, I created a new SETI account with that email address, but it has never received any credit. Consequently, whenever the other projects show my credits, SETI always shows "0". I tried changing my email address to the one all my other projects use, but it did no good. I'm still here, at this email address/account. How can I merge them, or transfer my substantial credits to my more common email account, the one that all my other projects use ? It would be nice to have all my credits for all projects all in the same place. |

Post: Now, here I am again, with my dominant alter ego, as if it were necessary to prove myself... Surely after all this time, I am not the first one to be trapped by a "case sensitive" problem like this...? Anyway, thanks again for your assistance? George ("I want my work credits!") Grasmann |

Astropulse FAQ
(Message 837243)
Posted 5 Dec 2008 by PsiberMan
Post: Thanks. It's really a difficult thing to accept -- wasting so much time (over 15 days) on a useless cause. Why couldn't Astropulse be OFF by default? I can see I'm not the only one who went through this. And why, after 12 days and almost 25% completion did a NORMAL REBOOT set me all the way back to practically 0%, with the completion time almost DOUBLE, going from 357 hours to almost 800? It's disheartening after almost 10 years of continuous computations to have this happen. |

Astropulse FAQ
(Message 836951)
Posted 4 Dec 2008 by PsiberMan
Post: I've been crunching my first AP wu since November 19. I thought it might complete in time, but today I look and see that suddenly the "to completion" more than doubled to over 760 hours, and it says I've only got .85% PROGRESS. Despite the things I've read here, I am going to abort the thing unless someone can give me a reason why I should not do so. The deadline is Dec 17. |

Post: OK, then... It's not that important anyway... Just wanted to do something to amuse the kids. ...Though, I cannot really understand why a background image needs to be so constrictive, since it's running on my computer anyway... Oh well. Thanks to all for the replies. Psibe |

Post: Is there any way to specify one's own computer for the source of a background image? I've tried the obvious (i.e., F:\\Saturn.jpg) to the obfuscated, such as file:///F:/Saturn.jpg. Nothing seems to work unless it's an http://www...etc. aTdHvAaNnKcSe, Psiberman |
