Pre-empted
(Message 310615)
Posted 19 May 2006 by Steve Cressman Post: this pre-empting is getting crazy.. Don't worry, the scheduler will get around to doing them again. The scheduler has many rules to follow to make sure all work completes before their deadlines. Pre-Empted = Paused |

Posted 15 May 2006 by Steve Cressman Post: Unless we want widespread selective WU computing, I recommend deletion of this thread. Several months ago I made a remark questioning the character of the very same person. That was in regard to telling another person to disobeying orders from an employer and run the Boinc software anyway. |

Seti Enhanced Credit Fair?
(Message 306014)
Posted 15 May 2006 by Steve Cressman Post: I'll notice if you leave, that's for sure :o) I don't know where you think the competition has gone. As long as we are crunching and getting credits, the competition still exists. And as for you and seti.germany, it looks like you think that germany is going to continue with the old system while you have to use the new system. Talk about a persecution complex. In case you haven't figured it out seti.germany is using the new credit system also, not just you. |

LHC has work again, Off topic thread
(Message 305545)
Posted 14 May 2006 by Steve Cressman Post: LHC has lost my account. Now I can't even log in to tell them over there that they lost my account. All I get is user not found. Can't get to the forums because it says I need to login but i can't login because it says don't exist. Can someone please post at LHC that I want my account back. Same name as here. Thanx. First let me say thanks Dotsch. Yes was very strange, never seen anything like it. Was trying to get LHC to send my account info because I could not remember what I did with that info. With FF it said that my email address did not exist but with IE was able to get LHC to send the info to my email account. THen with this info was able to login to LHC with FireFox and all is good in the universe again, lol. I knew my account at LHC still existed since my old scores are still going out with the stats.xml file to the stats sites. Just one of those things huh Fuzzy, just like your napping computer the other day, LOL. |

Cant get enough work?
(Message 305529)
Posted 14 May 2006 by Steve Cressman Post: Ned is right and I have stated also that if your connect time is set high that it can prevent you from getting work from seti. If the work on the seti d/l server at the time of your request has a short deadline then you will not be issued work because the scheduler thinks that you will miss the deadline with your 10 day connection interval. Short work = 4.34 days to deadline. Therefore I would suggest a cache setting less than 4 days to decrease your chances of being refused work. :) |

Q: Are SETI WUs taking longer to crunch than previously?
(Message 305451)
Posted 14 May 2006 by Steve Cressman Post: [font='courier, courier new']Just an informal poll, but I've been noticing that SETI WUs (and Einstein WUs) are taking much longer to crunch than they used to. I've had two ten-hour-long SETI WUs and a 16-hour-long Einstein WU is still in my queue. Just because this person did not do any reading before posting about longer times is no reason to mark the persons post negative. Dragon, The new app does more work, therefore it takes longer for most of the workunits. But there are some that will take less time also. Not to worry though, you will get more credits for the longer wu's based on the Fpops counting method now being used. If your Boinc client is pre 5.2.6 then it is recomended that you update. Updates can be found here . |

Started up Exploder hoping that the auto login was set for LHC but it was not. When trying with FF it would say no user with that email. Started up Exploder and entered my email addy at LHC and it was able to send me my account KEY. Now back using FF and was able to login at LHC. Scratches head in wonder as I post. |

Best way from Crunch3rs S@H 4.11 to 5.12?
(Message 303459)
Posted 12 May 2006 by Steve Cressman Post: Based on what others have suggested, I originally ran the queue dry, let BOINC download the standard 5.12 worker, stopped BOINC, copied in Crunch3r's 4.11 and 5.12 optimized workers and app_info.xml, and restarted BOINC. I did not edit app_info.xml. Does it also contain info regarding apps 5.13 and 5.14? If not you will have problems. |

BOINC 5.4.9
(Message 303441)
Posted 12 May 2006 by Steve Cressman Post: Not true. It will still do a lot for einstein. If I did not have trux's client installed I would be dragging the credits down at einstein. Without calibration claim 7 or 8 credits, with calibration 37 - 39 credits and the standard claim should be 42 for long einstein units. So even with calibration I still drag it down a bit. There will be many hoping that trux does a 5.4.x client. I don't care that much about credits but I do like to see the numbers go up, lol. And since there seems to be so many that get bent out of shape over credits I use the calibration to keep them happy. I setup BAM on this system the other day using trux's client but CC v5.4.9 is needed I think for full functionality of the account manager software. So in order to use it I am having to decide : 1) Do I install 5.4.9 to get this working and drag down the credits at einstein or 2)Not install for now and hope that trux does a new client. But this option does not look good because there has been no activity at the truxoft site since january I think according to check-in notes. Not positive on this but some have mentioned crunch3r also makes a calibrating client. If trux doesn't do it maybe crunch3r will update his if he has one. Just was checking crunc3r's site and can't find any mention of calibrating clients so guess some people are confused as to who's client they are using. :) |

(Message 303427)
Posted 12 May 2006 by Steve Cressman Post: Yes, but BAM is closed again for signing up. They allowed 200 people to come in for the (final?) beta test. Yes Ageless, I know that at the moment I am one of the lucky few but it won't stay that way for long. Also I think that there is more than one place that is working on bringing Account Managers to the masses. BAM is just one of them. I got my account because I was in the right place at the right time. |

Posted 12 May 2006 by Steve Cressman Post: I think what you are looking for is an Account Manager. An account manager allows you to control all your computers and all your projects from one web site. I setup a BAM account 2 days ago. It still has some rough edges but like everthing Boinc it is a work in progress and will improve. To get full functionality of the 'account manager' you need to install the latest version of Boinc, that would now be v5.4.9. Some more info on Account Managers can be found here |

Posted 11 May 2006 by Steve Cressman Post: The extension manager still says 'no updates found' but I'll keep tryin' and let you know when it does happen. Also the search for 'BOINC Stats' on the FireFox add-ons page reports: Addon Search There are currently no results. Please use the options above to adjust your search terms. So I guess getting a home on Mozdev is just the first step in a mutli part process. Edit: Looks good to see the page up there at Mozdev just the same :) |

What say you about Seti-Enhanced??
(Message 302987)
Posted 11 May 2006 by Steve Cressman Post: This post is not directed at any one person but it could be directed at you. I just don't understand this choice thing I keep reading about. Seti developers have decided that they want to do a more in depth search of the work to increase our chances of finding the signal. We should all be glad this has happened! This requires a new seti app and that app is 5.12. Most of the work now takes a bit longer, so what, we get credit for it. Some of it will take a very long time, some of it even takes less time to do. THe credit now recieved for the standard 5.12 app is the same per hour as the standard 4.18 app. Some of us have been spoiled with what could be viewed as extra credits because we where using optimized apps. Now You cry because you don't have the advantage any more over those who where ignorant to the optimized apps. Just where do you think that you are going to spend those credits? Not any place that I know any time soon. Those of us who once again install otimized apps will still get an advantage but not as great of an advantage as before because a lot of the optimizers techniques have already been added to the standard app. The advantage won't be extra credit for a result because of Fpops counting but by increased throughput giving us more done in the same time span. I think that if people give it a chance and allow themselves to understand the new way of doing things they will come to appreciate it's benefits. This volunteer cruncher likes the new seti, and I think most will agree. :) |
