Well BOINC seems to have just fixed itself lol - the hanging wu's have disappeared, so whether they've been sent in or been removed I don't know, but at least it's sorted out :D

I guess Ralic you were correct and they've 'errored' out on their own :D

Thanks for your responses to the problem! Appreciated!

I sympathise with this, I just wonder why they weren't prepared for all this? It's not like the entire SETI@Home Classic community has come over to BOINC yet? I'm not slagging them off - just wondering why like many others I guess? They are valid questions. I just feel the project was nowhere near ready to go live that's all and I fear they have probably lost a lot of crunchers as a result of the 'teething' problems that have been experienced and that would be a real shame. I for one am here to stay :D I'm interested in all of it - the science, the project, etc., not like some for glory, but I admit it makes it a little more interesting!

The pending credit is just a way to see what your machines have done and it's pretty hard to understand why this couldn't be on a different database? It's pending credit - couldn't that be tied to the original database in some way and once it's 'granted' then divert to the main database - might save the main server being thrashed with requests ;) Just a suggestion ;) (in the wrong section I guess --- hehe!)

Many of us are waiting for this to return - it's hard to judge what work has been completed when you cannot see the pending, plus you cannot be convinced that work has been sent in. I too would like to see that restored since it cannot be a hard drain on the server for this could it? The main drain is there not being enough work available isn't it?

I backed up the entire folder yes, then reinstalled BOINC then copied the backed up folder back in over the top of the original installation.

It hasn't been able to upload the 'left over' workunits from the previous incarnation of Windows (didn't expect it to though) ... consistently stating:

SETI@home - 2004-07-26 23:18:16 - Started upload of 02ja04ab.16221.2610.254826.84_1_0
SETI@home - 2004-07-26 23:18:38 - Temporarily failed upload of 02ja04ab.16221.2610.254826.84_1_0
SETI@home - 2004-07-26 23:18:38 - Backing off 1 minutes and 0 seconds on transfer of file 02ja04ab.16221.2610.254826.84_1_0

I tried manual update and all my other machines are sending work in okay? I don't just want to delete it all and restart since all the downloaded workunits would be lost?

I need to know how to remove these 'dangling' workunits or get them to upload?

Regards
Sharon.

I had to reinstall Windows on a virus infected machine ...

I had about ten completed workunits that the machine couldn't send in since the virus was stopping internet access ... I know I've lost those now ...

The question is - I backed up the folder so that I could retain the downloaded workunits after having many problems getting them I didn't want to lose them lol. But it's still got the workunits that were completed in the software - I do not know how to remove them, and it's constantly trying to send them in?

Any help appreciated ...

Thanks, Sharon.

Thanks for that :D I assume they will implement something to fix it later then ... many thanks.

Couldn't think of an appropriate title! Lol.

I want to be able to set BOINC to 'not' connect to the internet at all on my modem based machines until I tell it it can.

It is constantly bringing up the 'dial up' box to ask to connect which is infuriating at times. Is there a way to stop it asking?

I can only find an option in the web controls to 'ask before connecting'.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks ... Sharon.

Absolutely, wonderfully said ... I'm frustrated along with the rest of them, I have a 3.2ghz Prescott waiting for work (a new toy) but I just switched her off and keep watching my other machines until there's work.

I do however think that Berkeley should keep us more informed about what's going on - their communication is terrible ... but then I would say this - while they're talking to us, who's fixing the problems?

Patience is what is required! I spat my own dummy last night in frustration - but I didn't quit the project!!!!

Sorry to sound stupid - I assume by proxy you mean a system similar to seti queue? This is an option, I could create a temporary network connection to transfer the workunits? Has there been such software invented now, if so that will be the route for me?

This is a 3ghz poot that I really want to crunch, lol.

I have a computer which I would love to crunch BOINC. It hasn't got any internet access to send/collect. Is there a way I can do this (on the old system I used to copy workunits to a disc and then transfer to the poot with no access?
