MSDOS was based off CP/M which was developed in 1973-1974. So even the beginnings of both programs are in the same timeline.

But server status page shows exactly the opositive, a lot of WU ready to be DL for crunching (314,429 by last stats just of MB, AP spliting is off).

That is just 1/10th of what is in the wild already. Over 3M being crunched currently. Also. a lot of those who have multiple GPU also crunch multiple units on each GPU, so your numbers are at the very low end.

You also ignored the whole first part of my message that SETI is stressed in the amount of work it already gives. I have a hard time getting units if I do not keep a small cache of them and my backup projects start crunching. When I look at the logs at those times it is more or less telling me SETI was too busy to send me units and does a back off.

Theory I have is that the reason the are keeping it status quo is SETI is busy enough. Their databases get hit hard and are sometimes overloaded with the amount of work already being done. Adding more stress would be problematic. Plus they may not be able to keep up with creating enough work for the extra amount people could grab.
4) Message boards : Number crunching : BOINCstats/BAM - Free-DC Results Discrepancy (Message 1396773)

Post:
Each site is owned and operated by their own group. They all pick up their own data when they do. So there will be discrepancies between them. Some only pick up once a day, because picking up date from hundreds of sites and to update their own databases can take hours. If they have older systems it will even take longer.

So, there is no reason for each of them to be exactly the same all the time.

The Knights Who Say Ni! are gearing up to participate. I personally have not done SETI units in years (except a few BETA ones a while back to test video cards). It looks like a fun event.

Posted 26 Feb 2010 by Profile Pooh Bear 27
Post:
It should be remembered that when they had the last larger outage they left the stats export off for a few days to let all the dust settle and the servers to catch up with all the extra requests they are getting. I am betting they may wait until next week's outage before turning it back on. I could be wrong.

Why wouldn't my credit for SETI@home appear under My Account? All other applications do.

The stats at the bottom happen when the database dump is done. On SETI that is usually once a day, but probably is delayed due to all the work has been going on recently. It will eventually show there.

Posted 28 Jan 2010 by Profile Pooh Bear 27

All returned results are in a database and will be sifted through with the analyzer that are finally getting online.

Some of the dirtier results were redone on BOINC already over the past years.
12) Questions and Answers : Windows : Credits difference (Message 966031)
Posted 26 Jan 2010 by Profile Pooh Bear 27
Post:
The difference is the one on the middle of the page is constantly updated. The one at the bottom of the page is recycled about once a day. This one is the one that is exported to other stat sites. Since it takes a huge hit on the database to do this, they only do it once a day.

13) Questions and Answers : Windows : HTTP Error (Message 965864)
Posted 25 Jan 2010 by Profile Pooh Bear 27
Post:
Have you stopped and restarted BOINC, or rebooted since the errors started?

Sometimes an ARP table (the table that holds the IPs for Internet sites) gets in a word corrupt. Sometimes just restarting the software works, sometimes a reboot is needed. This especially happens after Windows updates without a reboot.

Actually 2001 was a milestone year:
A new decade (10)
A new century (100)
A new sesquicentennial (150)
A new bicentennial (200)
A new semiquincentennial (250)
A new quadricentennial (400)
A new quincentennial (500)
A bew millennial (1000)
And the first bimillennial (2000)

It was a really awesome year math wise.

"Happy New Decade" to all.

There are many people that know the new decade doesn't start until next year. Just like the millennium didn't start until 2001. There was no year 0, so 1-10 is the decade. It always starts on the 1.

Vista needs reboot every couple of weeks just because it does.
I've seen a crunching *nix box go for over a year without a reboot.
