You answered your own question.

3,426/57,527
3,454/62,578

5000 more people joined in this interval. It's safe to assume they have more/faster computers than you do.

People, get off the hardware kick. He already said he has tons of experience in the field, and he's already done the troubleshooting to narrow down where the problem is. It's obviously a software issue.

Cafe SETI is meant to be a general-purpose board. Since we still do not have moderation, and since the vast majority of people on this board are still kidding themselves that we don't need it, anything goes. The other two boards are SETI-specific, however.

I feel bad for Artest. This wouldn't have happened if the dipshit Detroit fans hadn't thrown stuff at him.

That's awesome.

Not the backhanding part, the first part.

DIE TELETUBBY!

I grew up with PeeWee, so I was too stupid to realize that the guy was off his rocker.

(("Off his rocker" is American slang for insane, in case anyone doesn't know))

I agree. There's no reason to keep old stuff floating around in there. Far more optimized to have the old cleared for the new.

Rule of thumb is that your pagefile should be between 1x-2x the amount of RAM on your machine.

A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad
attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity. John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to "clean up" the bird's vocabulary. Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even ruder. John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer. For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute. Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer. The parrot calmly stepped out onto John's out stretched arms and said "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I
fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable
behavior." John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude. As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird continued, "May I ask what the turkey did?"

A single machine would be downloading the WUs. You have to gather them before you can distribute them on a floppy or whatever to the 50 machines that can't connect to the Net.
