Posted 25 Nov 2007 by Instytut Dziennikarstwa Post: Well, so I have new stallions in my SETI stable: two Intel SR1530CL with two dual-core Xeons 5110 each, crunching 24/7 before they get into "production" as new Institute of Journalism server and Online Journalism major server... But what I just saw on one's BOINC made me laugh:
Well.... had it coming :D |

Un-merging wrongly merged machine
(Message 649848)

Posted 5 Sep 2007 by Instytut Dziennikarstwa Post: Verrrry interesting! Wonder what will happen on a more 'normal' WU. Keep us advised of your progress. Maybe we have another Chicken cook stewing here! Actually it's not ChickenApp- these are unsuitable for the system I'm using (A heavily optimized system, with just a shred of Debian inside). FFTW of mine is optimized for my CPU. SAH client is "mildly" optimized ("-O4")- and that's it, usual crunch time is between 3.5 and 8 hours (for BOINC-estimated 10 hour crunch time), results here: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=2352316 Check this nice result: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=153914570 |

How is THIS possible? (Optimization or cheat?)
(Message 632397)
Posted 2 Sep 2007 by Instytut Dziennikarstwa Post: Update to this: as it turns out, with machine-optimized client (DIY) the "real" crunch time of my client is comparable with Conroe now(!)- BELOW 4k secs-1.5h for 56 cobblestones unit), however... somehow the time for completion is not CPU time, but time from sending workunit to receiving result(!). Needless to say, I'm now a little lost- or how can decrease intervals of reporting results (connecting every 0.05 day is pretty much often)? |

(Message 617987)
Posted 11 Aug 2007 by Instytut Dziennikarstwa Post: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=144812504 I understand that a Conroe is far better CPU than Presler- and that ChickenApp will give you major computational boost- but that is just incredible! Unfortunately the result that surpassed even that has been deleted already, but I once had 88.70 cobblestones result with difference of 33k vs. 3.7k seconds CPU time- is that actually possible?
