Post: Saw this news today and came rushing here to check what implications this has for SETI. Interesting that the sources of these FRBs can't even be pinpointed to a specific galaxy. Makes me wonder if SETI could pinpoint the origin of a strong candidate signal. |

In any case, assuming the Ukrainian military crushes all resistance as it seems they will, how then do you propose they will govern an area where the people are so openly in opposition to the policy of the government in Kiev? I guess they will have a military occupation of their own territories. |

Post: So if China buys one of the big mining companies operating in Queensland, and they ships in 1,000's of Chinese workers to do the dirty jobs the Australians don't want at low wages. Then in ten or twenty years these Chinese workers then declare Queensland is now part of China. I understand the comparison you're trying to make but it is apples and oranges. For one thing, no part of this country has been part of the Chinese Empire at any point in history. Another thing is that immigration laws prevent exactly that possibility. Don't think people in this country don't worry about Chinese companies buying large tracts of land for mining and agriculture though... I'm just not one of them. |

Are you saying that the people remaining in the regions of Eastern Ukraine are only Russians? I agree that most of the people there called themselves Russian from the beginning. That is the very reason why your entire argument is moot. The eastern areas of Ukraine are filled with Russians and they would fight a Ukraine government that despises them. That has nothing to do with Putin. Or Russia. |

Would you be referring to the fact that the driver had drawn and raised his weapon before Powell removed the knife from his pocket? Having now watched the initial actions of the police a few times you can see Powell turn behind to realise that he was between the police and the onlookers so he changed the angle and removed the possibility of bystander casualties. |

Post: Again, just because a cop carries a gun does not licence them to kill. The gunning down of hundreds of suspects every year by police also leaves widows, orphans, crying mothers etc no less so than the killing of police officers in the line of duty. Or is your view that the life of a police officer is more valuable than that of a perp? You can only commit suicide by cop when you know how the police will act. Its a sad state when stealing a couple of sodas and carrying a knife is all it takes to be gunned down. |

Post: BBC reports the "aid convoy" has crossed the Ukraine border without the Red Cross escorts. Having read the article in full I would say Ukraine refuse entry based on grounds not provided and now want to call this an invasion against Ukrainian sovereignty but at the same time are taking no action against what is clearly a humanitarian rather than military convoy. In other words, Ukraine is playing this as a propaganda stunt to say this is an invasion. It is clear on evidence already provided that this convoy has no military materiel. |
