7 hours should be ok..i have x2 3800+ overclocked from 2.0 to 2.6GHz and it takes about 5-5.5 hours/WU (but with crunch3rs 5.12 app. it takes me about 2.5 hours/WU)..

i had same problem on my x2 3800+...i was using crunch3rs opt. app. (upated on 25.12.2005 with sse3)...i was loosing about 30-40% of my cpu time with that app. Right now im using the older version of crunch3rs opp. app. (with sse3) and everything is working fine...give it a try ...

I didnt notice any difference between sse2 and sse3...I do a WU in about 38min with sse3 and if i remember corectly it take me the same time to finish a WU with sse2 opt. app. But ppl says sse3 should be a little faster, so im using atm sse3 and its working great.

YOu should download a reference WU and test it and you will see what is better/faster... you can download it from trux site...

i just got my x2 3800+ (2GHz) and i overclocked it to 2.6 (prime95 13hours without errors) and im dooing a wu every 45min/core. Thats with crunch3r's optimized app (sse3). My ram is running at 185MHz (damn new geil ultrax - its rated pc3200 5-2-2-2, but my pc wont even post at 200MHz (1:1) ), so im running it at 185MHz ATM. Ill rma it next week, so im hoping that the new one will do 260 (so, i can run it 1:1) and that should get me 7-10min better times. At least im hoping for 2WU every 35-37min.

So, if you have money, go for that x2 1MB/core ..but you can overclock x2 3800+ easy to 4400 speed. Imho that extra 512kB wont process wu's much faster, or i'm mistaken?

dhrystone-10396

with this one i have

whetstone-3120.76
dhrystone-10230.92

Yea using this new version my P3 SSE upon starting a new workunit does the same. Starts eating the memory, then I get a popup saying I am running out of Virtual memory, etc.
