Thanks for suggestion, JanniCash. I had been wondering the same thing due to an upgrade I remembered that I had not thought of as a possible issue and when I saw your post, I knew it was the solution.

I use, and have used for a while, with things uploading OK, a program called "Hide my IP". When I switched to the paid version, I was able to hide IP on any and all internet applications. But, doing this still did not cause a problem because when I made that switch initially, there was also an upgrade that was there that did not happen correctly, so those changes did not happen. Right before the upload troubles on BOINC, I re-tried a new upgrade to Hide my IP. This time it worked, and my changes were applied. The next time BOIONC tried to upload, that was when the trouble started. I think the few times I saw files go right after I re-booted, there probably was a slowdown in Hide My IP finding a suitable server, so BOINC was allowed to upload until that server was found and applied.

Yikes- Now all files are uploaded. And I have made changes to Hide my IP to allow BOINC to do its thing.

Thanks to all, for trying to help me. I am back in the Seti business.

Provided I did this correctly, it did not work.

Uninstalling both security programmes?

No. The xml file work around. But the security programs would have been next. See further down for my solution.

Provided I did this correctly, it did not work. But somehow before I tried, 3 of my 6 completed stalled uploads did finally go away.

Thanks for possible work around. Computer is off for now. I will try fix tomorrow.

I am not aware that comodo Internet security had an update at this time. I do use this as a firewall though, and have all along on this computer. It is also used in the other computer that still works. But I suppose there are differences in how the Vista and windows 8 versions do things.

Good idea to disable anti virus and spyware. But that did not help. I have malwarebytes and comodo internet security pro. The same two are installed on my other computer with no issues. I disabled them one at a time, and still the files will not upload. (now three)

It is not BOINC. I went back to earlier version and the same upload issue persists.

I have turned off getting new work units for this computer. If I cant get the finished work units to upload, is it possible to move them to my Windows Vista computer which seem to upload OK, and upload them from there?

My bad. I thought someone had told me in the store when I got computer a few months ago that I had 8.2. It is in fact 8.1 as you say.

I understand the two stage process to upload and report. After I had upgraded the version of BOINC, the next three GPU units completed stayed in attempting upload mode for around three days. When I saw a regular completed work unit also stall in upload, I rebooted computer, and they then went on uploading successfully and reporting as well. Since then, two more GPU units have completed and neither of them wants to upload even if I do reboot.

I guess it must just be my issue then. I suppose I will re-install the new BOINC, and if that does not work, see if I can re do the older version.

Since I upgraded to BOINC 7.4.36, when a work unit finishes, it will not upload and report as it had in the prior version. But, if I reboot the computer, BOINC will do what it has to do, almost. I say that because having just rebooted, a number of units uploaded and reported, but two which had been stuck before the reboot are still stuck. This impacts my regular and GPU work units.

My older computer running Windows Vista and same BOINC version 7.4.36 is working flawlessly. So, it may be this version of BOINC with Windows 8? But it doesn't seem possible I would be the only one with Windows 8, so I am at a loss as to what is causing it.

Yes! I have finally passed the ten year mark. Congratulations to all who have been here since the start, or at least just after the start as I was. . . Speaking of which, whatever happened to that ten year anniversary t-shirt contest? Whatever the design, I want one or two or three. For that matter, I would not mind another of the original Seti@Home t-shirts. Mine are a bit old looking now a days.

I did the upgrade early because I was only using one cpu for SETI if I got an AP unit. This was because the estimated time for the AP was so high, I could not get scheduler to give me any more work even though I had an idle cpu to do it. That works fine in the upgrade. Within a short time of upgrade, scheduler had sent more than enough- I guess I should have turned the "days on hand" back down before starting up.

One thing I noticed is that I saw the old message that 'BOINC could not contact server due to no internet connection and no default connect was set up' - message. I have not seen that for ages back when I had a dial-up connection, and there actually were times I had no connection. But, now I am on connected all the time, and that message was a bit strange since just after it popped up, I did an update, and connection was fine.

You don't necessarily have to join Boinc Alpha testing to use the alpha versions. You could just join the mailing list to stay current (I don't have the URL handy), but be ready for a lot of mail especially when a new version is put out for testing. If you would prefer you can just report problems to the Boinc Message Boards. You will need to register to be allowed to post.

The latest Boinc version can found on the download page from All versions or from Download Index page which also list past versions.

Thanks. I just downloaded version 6.6.20, and within seconds of restarting computation I got an additional 15 tasks. So far, so good. . .

I am on BOINC 6.4.6

I do not mind AP. It would just be nice if I could get other SETI work on the idle processor when I have a new AP unit come in at over 400 hours that continues to take only a bit over 100 hours to do when it gets down to it. Why not even two AP units? I can do two in the same time it takes for one. It just seems that since the new improved AP, once I get one, that is it until I get a few days into the AP unit.

I don't know if you're adverse to beta testing.

I understand that a big change in the current development versions is to do scheduling on a per-core basis instead of a per-system basis.

In other words, BOINC would recognize your overworked core, and your idle core, and get more work.

This has nothing to do with the science application, by the way, one of the major BOINC features is that the science application may completely ignore scheduling.

How do I sign up? I mean, sure- I could do this, but are there requirements other than downloading a test version of BOINC and telling someone if I have a problem?

Mixing APs and MBs on the same system, especially if there is CUDA running, will throw the DCF way off, and the estimates will be all wrong.

Now that you mention it, I don't understand why the problem isn't worse. I just checked the DCF on my CUDA machines. It is as low as 0.02. The same machines run AP on the CPUs, but the cache doesn't get out of control. Is BM (6.6.20 in my case) smart enough to remember the time CPU tasks actually take and schedule downloads for the cache appropriately?

It would seem the long term solution would be to have two DCFs, one for CUDA and one for the CPU(s).

No CUDA here. I would like to, but just have a lowly CUDA free laptop- Maybe I should go back to pre-CUDA Boinc version? But, I thought the "works" were the same except for the addition of CUDA choice.
