Migration of SETI Classic Acct.
(消息 229222)
发表于:11 Jan 2006 作者: Bill Barto Post: The problem is that you have two classic accounts and already have one of them linked to your BOINC account. I don't know if it is possible to re-link a classic account to another BOINC account. If you can do that then you could link your older classic account to your current BOINC account. |

Classic Credit converted into BOINC
(消息 229219)
发表于:11 Jan 2006 作者: Bill Barto Post: Make the classic people happy or do without their computing power. I hope you don't think you are speaking for all "classic" users. Exactly what is meant by a "classic" user? I processed classic SETI since 1999. When BOINC came along I saw the advantages of the new system and went with it. I didn't want the new system "contaminated" with classic results, it was something new. It never occured to me to have the workunits I processed in BOINC transfered backward to classic. |

If your results are getting validated then your computer is ok. You have your computers hidden so we can't help you any more than that. |

This subject has been extensively discussed in this thread: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=26049 Everyone agrees it would be good to stop hosts that produce a lot of errors but it is not as easy as it sounds. |

My work computer which processed until Dec 9, is still there. They need to take out the filter so everyone would show on the class pages. Everyone is now an inactive member of SETI Classic. |

Larger WUs
(消息 226227)
发表于:5 Jan 2006 作者: Bill Barto Post: I run one seti wu which takes up say 12 seconds of actual listening time from arecibo on a specific frequency (i have no idea if it's 12 seconds or not but bear with me). Now if Arecibo recorded 60 seconds at the same frequency from the same point in the sky there are 4 other work units out there. What if I have a signal toward the end of my wu and another cruncher picks up the rest of the signal on his work unit; will that be noticed? I assumed that setiathome's computers 'ran them all together' to see if there was something overlapping. This is how they break up the tape into workunits. The whole article is located here: http://seticlassic.ssl.berkeley.edu/cacm/cacm.html From the article: "Work units are formed by dividing the 2.5 MHz signal into 256 frequency bands, each about 10 KHz wide. Each band is then divided into 107-second segments, overlapped in time by 20 seconds. This ensures that signals we're looking for (which last up to 20 seconds; see below) are contained entirely in at least one work unit. The resulting work units are 350 KB - enough data to keep a typical computer busy for about a day, but small enough to download over a slow modem in a few minutes." (NOTE: This was written a really long time ago.) |

发表于:3 Jan 2006 作者: Bill Barto Post: What is the plans to convert the credits obtained with classic seti@home into BOINC credits. Is the number of work units completed to be multiplied by the average BOINC credits, and added to the total? There are no plans to convert Classic totals to BOINC credits. BOINC is a fresh start. Your classic stats are shown on your account page and will be updated after they get done cleaning up the Classic database. |

You can delete computers when there are no longer any results listed for them. Computers must be deleted from the web page. |
