I used to have an RSS feed that showed only the Technical News. It seems to have been lost during the recent upgrade. The main SETI News RSS is working fine. Would it be possible to restore this sometime soon? Thanks!

We at SETI@Netherlands would also like to have the RSS feed back please. We use it to inform our users about the tech news

RAC is the average daily credit based on the past results where most recent credits count more then older credits.

The login process uses https protocol. It presents a certificate to you browser so your browser knows it is the website it is suposed to be.
The name for which the certificate is issued (setibase.ssl.berkeley.edu) as present on the current certificate does not match the exact address (http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/) off the website. Also the certificate is a so called self signed certificate. i.e. a certificate created by berkeley itself, as opposed by a certificate provided by a certificate authority (i.e. verisign and the likes).

Modern browsers warn you that this is not in compliance whit how certificats are suposed to be used.
You can check the certificate by looking at its detail, check the address in your browser and if you think everything is OK then add an exception allowing your browser to accept this certificate.

@Hellsheep, solving the "can not connect error" is indeed beyond our control (apart from retrying over and over ;)) However the "HTTP internal server error" is returned by the server. So in those cases the connection did succeed. This error is found to be related to a reference in onces app_info.xml file to the old AP version. Appearantly the update to the server sided software on July the 26th does not take into account that reference anymore.

Since this is a referal to an optimized application on the windows platform, only those clients who installed that particular version of the optimized client are affected.
Removing the entry for optimized AP versions other then v505 will solve it for now.

I found that in my case the HTTP Server internal error was related to my app_info.xml file. This contained references to older application versions which are no longer used. (the content of app_info.xml is reported on any update)
It seems to me that the server update from the 26th of July caused some obsolete application versions to be invalid. In stead of reporting an invalid application it crashes causing a internal server error.

Removing the references to the obsolete applications from my app_info.xml solved this issue for me. The next update completed succesfully and my wu's are reported.

<...>Actually, it is more likely that you have a large cache, and 5.8.11 is correctly determining that you are going to have trouble meeting deadlines before your next promissed connection. (only one setting available, and it is used to describe how long the network will be off between user initiated connections.)

No this has nothing to do with the cache. As you can see in my original post BOINC is trying to download a WU but the actual transfer does not succeed.

I had a look in my firewall log and it showed time-outs on a cogent server??? I don't have a hosts file set-up and running tracert on setiboincdata does not route via cogent.
Is there a config file within boinc holding route info?

This again sounds like a packet size issue.

Have you tried the ping with the various sizes?

Up to packet size 1440 included, everything works fine respons times up to 175ms.
At size 1472 and higer it times out.

OK, try setting the MTU value on your router to 1440 to see what happens.

Well i have been through almost all MTU and RWIN settings but still no luck.
However i realised that, after i upgraded boinc on this PC from 5.4.11 to 5.8.8, i had not seen it download a new WU yet. It did finish, upload and report the ones present.
So i have just removed boinc 5.8 and re-installed version 5.4.11 and lo and behold 2 WUs downloaded without any problems and it's happily crunching them...

So something must have changed in the download routines between 5.4 and 5.8 wich my win98 environmentcan not cope with. Any ideas??

No it's not. I even went to the trouble of de-installing boinc and removing the folder it sat in. Re-installed it and attached S@H.
It confirmed a succesfull project attachment, started downloading the initial files and 2 wus and then got stuck again. It has about 8 downloads on the transfer tab including the application exe and the wu data. It tries downloading 2 of them, times out and goes to the next 2, times out and goes to the next. This continues infinitly with ever increasing pauses.
It looks as if this PC can not connect to some servers, however pinging setiboincdata from it returns within 30 to 40 ms.

I recently noticed that one of my PC's could not download WU's anymore. All processed work was uploaded succesfully and reported.
I found this when i was going to update it from 5.8.4 to 5.8.15.
After the update the problem remained so i detached S@H, removed its folder and xml files.
Then re-attached to the project. It states that attaching is succesful but it does not download all the files.

As you can see some of the grafics files are downloaded succesfully but sofar none of the application or WU's get thru.

Ping result seems OK.
Pinging setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu [208.68.240.14] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 208.68.240.14: bytes=32 time=165ms TTL=245

Reply from 208.68.240.14: bytes=32 time=173ms TTL=245

This concerns a win98 PC without any hosts references. It is located in a home network where other PC's get data without any problems. It also runs Einstein without any problems.

Any suggestions on what to check next would be appreciated

Look here and read the section "What will happen to my workunit totals?"
It states: "and a section of our web site will show the final leaderboards based on old work totals"
This is the official website, with an official statement that the final classic totals will be shown. What more do you need?

How come then when I have seti@home on 99 and predictor at 1 that bionc asks the same amount of work from both s@h and predictor. It seems that it just calculates the amount of work needed based on maximum diskspace available and then request it from any project. The first one to respond with work available then gets to upload the lot.
My settings allows for 250 Mb of BOINC related data on my disk. With predictor at 1% it should get 2.5 Mb at the most. Its maximum so far however was well over 50 Mb ???

Apart from the startup issues there is allways the following to consider:
from: "setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_about.php"
Finite work supply

Each work unit is now processed a limited number of times (typically three). When we have no work for your computer, you'll get a 'no work available' message. We encourage you to participate in other BOINC-based projects; then, when SETI@home has no work, your computer can stay busy doing other scientific research
--------

As you may know S@H classic has much more processing power then needed. So a lot of wu's where send out 10 times or more to keep us all busy. In Boinc a wu is processed not more then needed to get 3 results. Ater that it's gone. So when there are 100.000 wu's and 100.000 processors then everyone is finished after just 3 wu's. I think i might take a look at some other project as well.
