How to verify GPU is -really- being used by seti@home
(Message 1989334)
Posted 8 Apr 2019 by Swabbie Post: Thanks for the direction. Below is a similar image from my computer: https://postimg.cc/YjdXB2f6 I should mention that I must run Boinc in administrator mode. If I don't do this, Bonic gets stuck with an error (below) I know this isn't normal, but it's a quick work-a-round and I don't know how to fix the underlying problem. I wonder if this is a factor in my GPU performance. https://postimg.cc/SXZrFDcy |

(Message 1935837)
Posted 16 May 2018 by Swabbie Post: This may be a newbie question but somehow, I've unable to get out of Gamma-ray pulsar search #5 in Boinc, and back to Seti@home. The Einstein and Seti selections show up in Projects at the bottom of the screen, but selecting Seti@home has no effect in the Task selections at the top of the app, and only two selections appear both Gamma-ray. Any ideas on what's happening with this and how this happened? Thanks, J. |

Seti mysteriously switches to AstroPulse from time to time
(Message 1933178)
Posted 2 May 2018 by Swabbie Post: Ever since I started 'crunching for Seti' in February, I've noticed that at random times the project I'm crunching switches to "AstroPulse' for no apparent reason at all. There must be an explanation for this, or maybe it's an Extra Terrestrial being that is responding to our efforts. Any Ideas? |

New thread to post "My Hardware" used for crunching on BOINC.
(Message 1931316)
Posted 22 Apr 2018 by Swabbie Post: Perhaps this has been done before, but I thought it'd be interesting to post a list of the hardware you use for crunching work units. I'm sorta a noob at this (Feb 2018), but I'll start with my list: Dell Latitude E6510 With Intel i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz. Graphics: Nvidia NVS 3100M, 512 MBytes. |

Do ASIC 'miners' work on BOINC projects
(Message 1929504)
Posted 12 Apr 2018 by Swabbie Post: This may have been asked before, but without the specifics. Will ASIC Crypto Currency miners work on, say, Seti@home? Inexpensive miners currently listed on eBay include: https://www.ebay.com/itm/253271572863 https://www.ebay.com/itm/152877376855 Or, what seems to be the current industry standard: https://www.ebay.com/itm/273147871128 https://www.ebay.com/itm/362263257576 ($200. and change - plus power supply) If anyone has any experience with implementing any ASIC miner, please let me/us know of your experience ! -- Thanks! |

The best 'off the shelf' laptop for seti@home
(Message 1924626)
Posted 14 Mar 2018 by Swabbie Post: I'm about to acquire a laptop primarily for use on boinc/seti@home. I'm wondering if anyone here knows a make/model of laptop that will do a good job at crunching numbers. I know that naming a specific laptop is a long shot, in an effort to 'shop' for the best machine, what are the top 3-4 features that I should look for? Things like CPUs graphics boards, memory, etc. Thanks for the benefit of sharing your seasoned experience. Joe |
