Posted 2 Dec 2020 by ![]() Post: It's extremly sed and depressing. But every ending might be a cause of new beggining. Technology has advanced, knowledge has advanced, why not to build a new one, lighter, stronger, cleverer. And yes funds, well if we are living in the age of reason and discoveries, funding must be allocated to continue our porgress towards reach the boundries of universe. If not it will be a biggest shame for our civilization. |

Posted 3 Mar 2020 by ![]() Post: For me, S@H is / was a way to feel that I belong to something biger, worthfull, to the unexplainable whole, a bond to the universe. A huge urge to discover the mystery of the mystery of ... ? Of cource it's relevant only for a human bean, the cosmos don't care ;) And because it's all about FFT, then I was 12 and saw for the first time the dancing bargraphs on Klark Teknik DN60 audio analyser, I was mesmerized... till now. It was an excuse for looking for oportunities to change hardware etc. Hopefully you guys, would build a far better new aps and dehibernate S@H soon. |

Posted 26 Jan 2020 by ![]() Post: Good news, Thanks! But I'm still realy amazed that Phi could not be harnessed for Seti… of cource it's energy inefficient regarding todays hardware achivements but theoreticly schould work as shown in the link I've cited previously, Cinebanch run on Phi just right off the box. |

Posted 26 Jan 2020 by ![]() Post: Thank's for info on uefi. Is my current Lenovo C30 double Xeon v2 machine suitable for them? Another question is, if my current Quadro P2000 GPUs would work better under linux? If so I think I will convert this host to linux. I found info of End of life for Intel Phi products, so that's why prices are diving. Anyway it would be an intersting experiment to run Boinc on Phi 72xx Knights Landing which suport AVX512. Ommm.. BTW is S@H code using AVX2 or AVX512? |

Posted 25 Jan 2020 by ![]() Post: Thanks for confirming what I thought, Considerig this: https://www.servethehome.com/intel-xeon-phi-x200-knights-landing-boots-windows/ Boinc could run 256 of S@H tasks, well @1,3GHz would go slooooow. One I can get is 7120 is former generation and even if somehow I could manage it, I presume energy costs per FLOP makes no sense. |

CPU Models statistics
(Message 1955176)
Posted 13 Sep 2018 by ![]() Post: Hello , is there a possibility to make the CPU models table in statistics menu, sortable using column labels tabs? That would be helpfull while comparing cpu's within families. Also would be interesting to see the distribution of CPU type by number of computers. Or at least downloading the table in .xls? |

(Message 1913239)
Posted 15 Jan 2018 by ![]() Post: Hello, Everytime then the WU are withdrown, my crunchers encounts the same behavior: the slower & less core one, which has few WU's left to crunch, receives new WUs , before the second cruncher (faster & more cores) which is totally withdrown of CPU WUs , receive it's new batch. Also when it receivs it got first GPUs (which some are already from the previous batch) and no CPU WUs. How schould I configure it for letting more CPU WUs be downloaded in advance instead of GPUs? Every outrage I would need some 100 CPU WUs more to have the work sustained on the faster machine. |

Posted 31 Dec 2017 by ![]() Post: Great! They are nice work horces, I'm using them six weeks now, 115W each @ 10 cores running 3,1GHz in HT. My RAC shows 49k but according to my estimations the machine is making 53-54k a day, presumably half are CPUs, half GPUs. Happy new 2018 !! |

Also noted that total score graph climbing rate diminished by the factor of +/-two on both machines. RAC graph seismographic behavior, looks like S@H is giving less points for the job done, than before outrage time. 14.12.2017 22:00:50 | SETI@home | Project has no tasks available ... why ? |

Seti task runtime on Westmare or IvB or Hsw/Bdw
(Message 1887715)
Posted 3 Sep 2017 by ![]() Post: Hello, recently I noticed in CPU statistics, 15 Threadripper machines running 4.2 GFlops. So here is my question to X1950 owners, what is the time of standard 183.887 GFlops job on it? Also I read somewhere that AVX instruction executing speed is half on TR's , so are they worth the grand, or better keep with (wait for 8700K) Intel? |

(Message 1882587)
Posted 7 Aug 2017 by ![]() Post: Good to hear! So according to HAL9k, I can expect to cut processing time nearly by 2. As I see your 32t host is making 30k+ RAC which match with my estimations to my current RAC. Now I'm thinking a second 2x5675 unit for allmost a peny or go insane IvB/Hsw. Beside considering this, I know that GPU's are the answer :) In my position heat is not a big deal; I'm on north of Poland and even now in summer my home needs some ~350W of constant heating to keep comfort. So I decided that Seti will receive the benefit of my heating issues (the only way is electricity). |

Posted 6 Aug 2017 by ![]() Post: Hi, curently I'm using double X5675 Westmares. I'm interested how S@H tasks would benefit from AVX or AVX2 instruction sets. Now my 3.07GHz thread takes 4h50mins to process a workunit. How long would it take on E5-26.../V2 or E5-26... V3/4, supposing the same GHz (which I know that are different)? Is it worth transiting to those processors comparing to geting a second double X5675 computer (which is times cheaper)? |
