Setizens,

Didn't know where to post this, so it is ending up here.

Is it ok to post ads anywhere here for GPUs for sale?

BK has a LOT to part with, and would like them to initially go to SETI research, or at least someone interested enough in SETI@home to be reading this on the forums.

If not, BK try elsewhere.

Thanks!

SETI Gurus,

I just completed a Win10 build with an NVIDIA TITAN Xp. Installed BOINC/SETI@home. The default application is showing Cuda42, which is blasting crawling through BLC WUs at about 25 minutes a pop... BOINC happily downloaded my 100 WU limit right off the bat. So my question:

Am I stuck crawling through these cuda42 WUs over the next few days, or can I somehow force, I think it was SoG app? I know that eventually this gets sorted out automatically, but the 24min crunch is making me cringe.

Thanks!

Fellow SETIZENS,

The last time my computers dropped off the program I got a couple of private messages wondering what had happened. There was a medical issue and some other happenings, but it was nice to see that people were paying attention and took the time to reach out, I greatly appreciate it! I thought I would then make a quick preemptive announcement this time around, that my computers are slowly coming off line, in fact the main rig (now neutered) is probably coming off line in the next week or so. That is the bad news.

The good news is that BK is moving back to New Mexico! Once I'm established there I'll get a couple PCs back online! Unfortunately with the way my corp works, it could be a few months before everything is organized to get my rigs back online and crunching 24/7.

In the mean time, I thought I would share a couple videos from my project over the last couple of months. These are short updates and upgrades with my main dedicated SETI rig, oldest to newest:

Update 1 - Upgrading to EVGA Water Cooling: https://youtu.be/GwNivG4dB4Y
Update 2 - Back after Medical Issue: https://youtu.be/-5tCdOJ5_G8
Update 3 - New Xeon CPU & 7 GPU Test & MOVING!: https://youtu.be/Tibwb5B-PbQ

So I will end this post with this question... What are everyone's thoughts on me upgrading this main SETI@home rig so it's even more of a beast when I get her back online in NM, or just be happy with what I have now? My thinking is this: I have 6 EVGA 1070 SC GPUs, and 4 NVIDIA TITAN Xp GPUs with EVGA hybrid water cooling kits. I "should" be able to sell all of that and easily buy four 2080 Ti GPUs with the "profits"... I'm just not sure if I want to go through the trouble of trying to sell used PC components. Thoughts? Anyone have experience selling computer parts over the web and have advice?

-Thanks, BK.

Brett you made me look at my XP card with a comment you made.
I never thought about it before but it doesn't have the DVI port like the 1080s - which has to be cut off to turn them into single slot cards.
I'm adding a waterblock to my todo list now.

P.S. Did you get that computer from scocam or change IDs? I just seem to remember this ID showing up when his became inactive ...

Being able to go single-slot without cutting, and the ability to revert back to factory condition is the primary reason I went with the Titan Xp over the 1080 series. Plus, seven Titan XP all in one case... it would have been glorious haha! (maybe some day)
I changed user names a while back. Used to be "uswg01". This main SETI rig has also gone through so many different hardware changes (mobo, HDD, SSD, GPU, CPU... etc) over the last two years it has been hard to keep track. Most of the computers in my history are in fact this one machine. I kind of wish there was a way to manually merge machines in the stats, but I also understand why we can't. The computer is all mine though, it's been one heck of a learning process getting everything to work together!

This thread needs more love!!!

Sorry for the HUGE pictures, I'm not sure how to re-size for forum use?
Also, if you think cable management is important, consider this your "trigger" warning!

ASUS X99-E-10G WS Motherboard
*Motherboard has 7 PCIe slots & a PCIe M.2 slot, hence the ability to run 8 GPU simultaneously.
*When the M.2 slot is used with a GPU, this is the card that drives the monitor. Unsure why.
Intel i7-5960x - 8/16 - @ ~4.0GHZ (water cooled)
2x EVGA Titan X Hybrid GPU (maxwell)
6x EVGA 1070SC Gaming GPU (pascal)
EVGA 1600 T2 PSU
I forget the H2O system, RAM, and other component stats, as this was a couple years ago.
Windows 10 and Stock SETI App.
Various Configurations (it continuously evolved):

Same rig with seven Zotac GT1030 single slot cards. This short-lived test was quite important for what, at the time, was my eventual goal for my dedicated SETI rig.

Rig as it sits now (finally back up and running!).
ASUS X99-E-10G WS Motherboard
Intel i7-5960x - 8/16 - @ ~3.8GHz (air cooled)
4x NVIDIA Titan Xp GPU (pascal) with EVGA 1080Ti Hybrid Water Cooler Kits
Linux Lubuntu 16.04 & CUDA90 App

A few notes*
The 8-GPU rig very nearly set my house on fire. If you are going to try a setup like this, make sure not only your PSU (or two) is capable of the stress, but your home wiring is up to the task as well. No joke, there were flames and a melted outlet, I was lucky to be home to witness the event and stop it immediately. Air cooled CPU and GPU are LOUD, Very loud. Not much you can do about thermal output, but switching to water-cooled CPU and GPU drops the noise pollution significantly. This brings me to the seven GPU test. I bought this motherboard specifically for an incredibly insane idea. Mount 7 GPU to the MOBO, all in a water loop, to have a ridiculous SETI rig, while maintaining a small physical and audible footprint. My goal was to use SEVEN NVIDIA Titan Xp GPU, like the four in the last picture above. These cards, when equipped with a water plate, physically become single-slot cards. To make a long story short, this is a good example of what I was after, before I went broke... HAHA:

https://rawandrendered.com/octane-render-hepta-gpu-build

That was my eventual goal, but I ran out of money so 4x Titan Xp will have to do haha! Even If I had the money to complete my build, I would still have (as Ian&Steve C. mentioned) power delivery issues. I'll have to wait until I own a house and can make some specific modifications to the electrical system before I feel comfortable adding much to this unit. A custom water loop with an external (read: outdoor) radiator is also on the list, but that's another insane idea that is just going to have to wait.

Let's see some more crazy rigs!!!!

Congrats on the new laptop!

My laptop SETI crunching advice (I didn't see it mentioned yet in this thread):
If you are able, remove the battery whenever you are running the laptop hard, gaming, or crunching for long periods of time.
If you leave the battery in while running a laptop hard, in my experience, it destroys it in no time and renders the entire unit useless when you need to actually run it without the power supply attached.
I destroyed a few perfectly good laptop batteries before I realized my error, and the simple fix.
