Your "smartphone" is constantly spying on you
(Message 2109344)
Posted 29 Oct 2022 by Jan Henrik Post: There's a very simple fix for that, don't get a smartphone. +100 Check, "The Age of Surveillance Capitalism", by Shoshana Zuboff. my favs on that: The Shallows - Nicholas Carr [Norton](brain-plasticity; what it actually physically does to your brain ) The Cost of CONnection - Nick Couldry/Ulises Mejias [sup.org](every last thing of your life exploited for profit even if you don`t work) |

Posted 25 Sep 2021 by Jan Henrik Post: The Future of Humanity Institute at the University of Oxford put out a preprint about chances for SETI; https://arxiv.org/pdf/2102.01522.pdf and yes, they somehow ended up with 42 pages. |

Why do people run SETI@home?
(Message 2036997)
Posted 9 Mar 2020 by Jan Henrik Post: I'd be more curious to know who would not want to run SETI@Home. :) exactly! as some famous german persons once said: "life without boinc is possible, but pointless" |

SETI@home hibernation
(Message 2035477)
Posted 3 Mar 2020 by Jan Henrik Post: 物ã®å“€ã‚Œ ok I get it, don't wanna have lots of unanalyzed data lying about till someone shows up and says: "all your data are belong to us . . . you have no chance . . . make time . . . ha ha ha . . ." it's just hibernation not the end . . . and since great many work has been done from classic to BOINC there doesn't need to be much hibernation anyway . . . I think I'll live . . . still some mono no aware here . . . |

New SETI Perspectives: "Is ET in Our Solar System?"
(Message 2021803)
Posted 5 Dec 2019 by Jan Henrik Post: Richard Lawn has posted a new SETI Perspectives entitled "Is ET in Our Solar System?" yeah I thought there is a difference between ET and ETI and SETI but what do I know, having watched a famous movie . . . hearing ET brings up that ETI in my head so I have to sort that out over and over again ET more likely ETI less likely within the ET category |

(Message 2021802)
Posted 5 Dec 2019 by Jan Henrik Post: I think that all it signifies is a lack of understanding of the true nature of martian surface conditions. due to the usual cost-compromise problem many ideas get easily weighted-sized-prized-perfectized of the bus this is how space-exploration looks like to me combine those restrictions with all the unknown unknowns and I'm suprized how much actually does or did work so far . . . I still see every completed EDL as a big win, then the first interplanetary CubeSats and even for this instrument it's not the last sol one can still hope for a "if this would have worked right away it would have been a lot less interesting"-type of sol |

Posted 30 Nov 2019 by Jan Henrik Post: did they find an underground lifeform? that likes to tease extramartian engineers by pushing things up again? "making NASA engineers tear their hair out" . . . "undoing much of their progress" . . . https://www.npr.org/2019/11/29/783278261/a-mole-isn-t-digging-mars-nasa-engineers-are-trying-to-find-out-why?t=1575151033018 or do I interpret that too optimistic again ? |
