Jim Lovell, the last surviving crew member of Apollo 8, the first Apollo crew to lift off on the mighty Saturn V and travel to the moon (lunar orbit), died already on August 7th aged 97. As commander of the Apollo 13 mission, his calm strength under pressure helped return the crew safely to Earth and demonstrated the quick thinking and innovation that informed future NASA missions.https://www.nasa.gov/news-release/acting-nasa-administrator-reflects-on-legacy-of-astronaut-jim-lovell/ |
