Where's Walt Disney when you need him?
Just imagine...
...Donald Duck dropping "brown sludge" on the White House. :-)

Message 2152320 - Posted: 20 Oct 2025, 11:07:53 UTC - in response to Message 2152288.

Respect is earned not handed out like a free meal ticket.
I agree to this position and would not expect from anybody to pay respect to, e.g. my countries' Chancellor, now half a year in office. He still gained no respect within his own government coalition, struggles with domestic problems... still hasn't gained a respected position among other major EU leaders. How to expect respect for inferior performance?

On the other hand this (bold faced) is also true:

Might I remind all of you that Donald Trump is currently the President of the United States, and as such, he deserves the respect that that office commands.
Until such time as his actions prove that he is unworthy of that office, I would request that all posters here on this forum grant him said respect.
Trump was elected by many times more Americans than those who now protest against him in a couple of metropolises, which Trump obviously did not win. The people in rural America have a voice too; they expressed it in the recent elections. Supposedly they don't have the time or money to travel to metropolitan cities to also voice their opinion there, to oppose that of the anti-Trump faction.

But there's also this observation:

But organisers said the events, which drew nearly seven million people, were peaceful.

The New York Police Department said more than 100,000 people had gathered [...]

Senator Chris Murphy [...]: "Breathtaking. [...] likely go down as the biggest day of peaceful protest in our nation's 250 year history."

About 30,000 people attended the Austin protest, which remained peaceful.
Democracy is well alive in the U.S., far more than in Europe.

You mean something like that?

This clearly was wartime propaganda. There's neither the situation nor the need for such now.

Btw., did you know that Disney's wartime cartoons had never been broadcasted in post WW2 Germany? I learned about them just a couple of years ago.

From what I see, is that most of the negative views here, reflect the views of the peoples outside the U.S., and those views have been documented by the Pew Research Center a well respected American institute.
U.S. Image Declines in Many Nations Amid Low Confidence in Trump
Views of people outside...

If you, e.g. exclusively watch public TV in Germany, you must develop a strong refusal of everything Trump represents. His politic decisions were judged to be completely wrong, while the Democrats' previous ones were fundamentally right. Our foreign journalists and correspondents in the U.S. are completely biased; their opinions predetermined. They predicted Trump's sure election defeat. These days, they don't know anything outside the heart of NYC or DC, or rather, that's where all the people live, they are talking to.

The public opinion abroad shaped by such media represents a distorted image; which no longer conveys the more complex reality.

...and Trump does everything to further fuel the flames. Just why?

Why not simply govern (with ICE & Co..., don't mind) without constantly provoking those (social media, etc.) who oppose him? I can't understand this. An eternal, ongoing (nasty) election campaign.

Power normally gives a king composure... and diplomatic skills and wisdom if he lacks power.

Maybe the U.S. should indeed try out monarchy; don't be upset... just a constitutional one... no need to oust all the Congress members.

With America currently? Have no idea except: maybe someday...
...when it's too late.

Read an article earlier today, an interview with Bill Nighy by The Observer.
In it, Bill says something I've thought for the past decade at least.
He’s long been almost universally well loved, but he’s noticed over the last few years that people have started to regard him differently. “It’s my age,” he says. He’s 75. He thinks that this is why he was asked to be an agony uncle. “Age means you get mistaken for somebody who might know what’s happening. Though you know, take a look around the world, see how that’s working. Men of a certain age, ******* everything up …”
I've edited the quote for obvious reasons.

Pretty sure he was referring to Pootin & the Duck.

Now imagine that medical research finds ways to extend life to, say, 120...150 years... for those who can afford it. Putin, just entering the second half of his life...

Fortunately, nature takes its course, and younger people will emerge. The question is, what worldviews will they have? Those shaped by marginalized regions, like those described in 'Hillbilly Elegy'?

Men of a certain age, ******* everything up…”
I'm also afraid of the many young, influential people in parliaments who think exclusively this way and don't realize that everything around them, everything they take for granted, was once created by these people of certain age. They carelessly destroy what the older generations created, because they don't know, nor can imagine the times before.

Totally off-topic here... but this (Martin's link):
Is Trump very deliberately steering towards creating a putsch?
...is an extremely well made piece of historical education for the general public. Concise, in chronological order; clearly and interestingly presented in short interlinked modules; with very few, completely irrelevant inaccuracies or mistakes. I don't know of any German organization or mass media outlet that somewhere presents our history so clearly, so easily accessible, than this education snippet from the BBC.

Thanks for noting that.

Here's hoping that the history detailed there, is not repeated in the USA... (Or elsewhere!)

History blindly repeats?

Trump suddenly ordered to demolish instead of renovate the whole East Wing of the White House in order to replace it with an ostentatious "ballroom".

If he can do that without first consulting building and monument protection authorities...

What's stopping him from having the foundations built for a "Trump Tower" next to the White House... for the moment disguised as a "ballroom"?

... And the reality is:

They're Running The Project 2025 Playbook - Alex Wagner On The Second Trump Presidency

... Scary stuff for how far this has gone.

And for where all this is going and how quickly...

Which comes to the reality of:

Those supporting Trump are exactly the people who feel overwhelmed by the deluge of news from Trump. They voted for him to just "Give them an American Dream".

Meanwhile, whilst those people ignore the news to instead dream their dream, Trump becomes their despotic King.

Instead:

Wake up?!

AND wake up all the Trump-lovin' sleepers?

God save the USA?!
