I'm just sitting here waiting for my free Apple Watch so that I can be monitored 24/7/365. (Thanks, Carlos, for the info about the study.) I've already ordered a new watchband for it because I know the plastic band will make me sweat. I find that very annoying. That's why I quit wearing a watch, in general. I sweat a lot. I come from a family of heavy sweaters perspirers. A doctor once told me that, if you sweat a lot, it means you have a healthy heart. So far I've had no heart problems.

(Since I live alone, it's an added benefit to be wearing a watch that is constantly monitored. At least this way someone will know if I've died. LOL!)


I am too active to use the monitoring function. If I use my chainsaw or chipper the watch keeps warning me that my environment is too loud. It would ask me if I had fallen several times a day. If you don't tell it you didn't fall it will call 911. I turned that function off. It may work for the average person but I guess I am just too active to be monitored.

Thanks for letting me know about this. I don't saw* or chip (much), but now I'll be aware that it has some faults.

*I actually have some largish branches in my yard that will have to be cut up soon.

Watching TV could increase seniors’ risk of dementia, study says
It found that those whose time sitting was primarily spent watching television had a 24 percent increased risk for dementia, whereas those who spent that time on a computer had a 15 percent reduced risk for dementia. The researchers explained that TV watching is cognitively passive, meaning little thinking is required, while computer use is cognitively active, meaning it (like reading) is more intellectually stimulating.

I don’t know how watching streaming feed of Netflix, Hulu or a local tv station is any better. Computers are just as passive as a tv couch potato.

Depends how you are using the computer...

If you are using the computer as a TV... Then that is just as passive as watching a TV.

If instead you are using the computer to be creative (eg: writing, drawing, programming) or for learning or for trying to find out about something, that is something that is active and stimulating.


I long ago gave up TV as being depressingly mind numbingly too slow and far too passive.

There is also something else we must do. That is having a good body. It does almost nothing if you have a sharp mind and a near dead body. Stephen Hawking for example. If you want a lite workout, I suggest YouTube and Richard Simmons.
