Mastriano, a state-senator backed by former President Donald Trump, paid $5,000 in April to Gab for "advertising consulting," state campaign finance records showed.

Democrats and Republicans alike have criticized Mastriano for his association with Gab, the social media platform on which a gunman who killed 11 people at a Pittsburgh synagogue in 2018 posted his antisemitic rants.

Founded by Andrew Torba in 2016, some Gab users contemplated plans on the platform to disrupt the ascertainment of Joe Biden's victory on Jan. 6, 2021. Torba has said his aim is to foster in a "Christian nationalist" society, called for the conservative movement to be "exclusively Christian" and frequently espouses anti-Semitic views....

...Speaking to NBC News, Shapiro, who is Jewish, said Mastriano's use of Gab should be looked at not under the lens of religion, but extremism....

Well that's what happened here at least when government and religion weren't forcefully separated. Now that it's legally fashionable to ignore the first amendment, I'm sure you'll have plenty (more) homegrown examples soon enough.

A group of prominent Christian leaders, including the heads of major denominations, say they submitted a letter earlier this year to the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, urging members to examine Christian nationalism and arguing the ideology played a crucial role in the insurrection.

Organizers of the letter, which has not previously been disclosed, told Religion News Service they were approached by a committee investigator on the topic. The resulting statement, dated June 2, was facilitated by Christians Against Christian Nationalism, an effort orchestrated by the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty.

“The ideology of Christian nationalism helped motivate and intensify the insurrection,” the letter reads in part. “We ask the Committee to thoroughly investigate the role that Christian nationalism played in the attack. This investigation into Christian nationalism is important so that history does not repeat itself and so that we understand this threat to our country’s historic commitment to religious liberty and the importance of defeating it.”...

If religions want to play in politics then they should pay high taxes.
