Besides participating in seti@home for several years, I've been interested in ET in other ways. Lately, I've been watching The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch (History Channel, Tuesday nights) as well as other ET-related shows. I watched the movie A Tear in the Sky. (I highly recommend it.) And there are various other shows about alien visitations, not to mention the many books on the subject. I've started to wonder, why doesn't ET introduce himself/herself to us? I mean, it's becoming sort of evident that they exist. They're not even trying to hide their ships anymore. So why do you think they're still avoiding us? I have one or two ideas, but I'd like to hear from you all first. ~Sue~ |

Would you introduce yourself when the country with the world's strongest military is threatened by one man's lies? I would hang back and keep an eye on what steps are taken in the next year or two. |

Could it be that, ET has introduced themselves to our world, but because it wasn't to the President of the U.S.of A, it never made the media headlines in the U.S.of A. As in "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" |

I can definitely see your point, but I don't think we have anything that could "outgun" our alien friends. What do you think we might do to them that would be a real threat? I don't think we have anything to cause them to worry. Also, the USA isn't the only country on Earth. ~Sue~ |

If they have introduced themselves, it's not in the way that I mean. I don't consider what has happened up to now an introduction. I think it could be that they're getting ready to introduce themselves by making their ships or themselves more obvious. But what I mean by an introduction is more like what happened in the movie The Day The Earth Stood Still, with one or more aliens landing in a populated area and saying "Hey, we're here!" Of course, some idiot with a gun might try to shoot them, but I'd guess they have the technology to avoid that. I hope. ~Sue~ |

Why would they bother to waste their time? The best we can offer at the moment is an unpleasant covid infection... If they have the tech to get here, there are far better places to go elsewhere. Just ask Zaphod... Keep searchin'! Martin See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

Could this planet be “toxic” to them? Look at the Bible in Ezekiel. It reads like a close encounter. |

All the actual verified evidence we have thus far is indicative that we haven't met any extraterrestrials because they are exceedingly rare. I'd expect to find thousands of planets with the equivalent of earthly bacteria before I found one with the equivalent of a worm, never mind an intelligence, a civilization. And we haven't even discovered a single extraterrestrial bacterium yet. We should still keep listening, though. We can check for signals from millions of other worlds from here, and it's something to keep us going and hopeful in a vast, lonely and indifferent universe. |

I don't, and I think there is a lot of "proof" that something is flying through our skies, and perhaps our oceans. ~Sue~ |

I can’t say one way or the other. It might be like Star Trek and we look a lot like each other or Star Wars and are a bunch of odd shaped beings. |

First Contact Protocol. They follow it, they know what it is and practice it. Mankind has not and it probably be some time before mankind can. https://archive.org/details/aliens-response-to-mans-questions_202207 https://archive.org/details/AUniversalLanguage https://archive.org/details/TheDifferenceBetweenManAndBeast https://archive.org/details/DelianQuest2015 |

First Contact Protocol. Under "First Contact Protocol" they shouldn't even let us know they exist, yet there is plenty of evidence that something is going on. That's why I'm asking. Now that we have proof* that something exists beyond Earth and humans, why don't they safely and formally introduce themselves? Why don't they let us know why they're here (unless they're evil and whatever they are doing will harm us in the longrun)? *I suggest that all that we've seen and experienced is proof that there is another lifeform lurking about. ~Sue~ |

It may be safe for a first contact? Just think of when the Europeans decided to first visit the new world and released their germs and bugs. Then of course e.t. wouldn’t want to end up on the wrong end of a scalpel. |

Flapping bird wings quite evident in many. And perspective is also being destroyed in these films. Capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round ... changes. |

Susie, there really isn't any actual data that supports your point of view. There is a huge obstacle, called physics. If the physics is solved, meaning why a "manned" spaceship needing to cover many light-years, taking perhaps hundreds or thousands of years one way, would be feasible for a planet that has given off radio waves for just over 100 years, would make a target for another intelligent planet just doesn't make sense. If the physics is solved, meaning why a "manned" spaceship needing to cover many light-years, taking perhaps hundreds or thousands of years one way, would be feasible for a planet that has given off radio waves for just over 100 years, would make a target for another intelligent planet just doesn't make sense. This is the power of radio SETI... radio signals are relatively cheap to generate and receive, they're among the first electrical technology we discovered and we hope others would do the same, they propagate instantly and forever through interstellar space at light speed needing no further power source or maintenance or anything else to keep going. Anyone else out there would be constrained by the same stupendous obstacles of physics and mind-boggling distances that we are. So much easier to just send a signal out saying "Hi" and hope for a reply. Just as an idea of the distances we're dealing with, the furthest humans have ever been from Earth is the moon. Let's scale the Earth down to a mustard seed so that the moon is a grain of sand one cm away (about the width of your little fingernail) and place the two in New York. That's it... that one cm fingernail width is the furthest we've traveled, and it took thousands of people working for many years and billions of dollars to do it. The nearest extrasolar planet would be in or near Tokyo, just over a billion times farther away. Our minds have great difficulty even visualizing the distance, as well as the energy requirements it would take to get there in less than tens of thousands of years. So where is ET's introduction on radio SETI? I think we just need to listen more and longer. Given its cost effectiveness and that we already have all the technology in place, we've still done little more than that fingernail-width first step but without a good excuse. |
