Who needs a gun when you have something else to cause injury?
Man arrested related to aggravated battery, throwing objects at woman's head in Martin County
Deputies have charged a man with aggravated battery, accused of throwing things, possibly a meat cleaver, at a woman's head, causing severe injury.

On the evening of Sept. 21 Martin County deputies responded to a report in reference to domestic trouble. The woman who made the report said a woman, who's relationship to her was redacted in the arrest affidavit, came to her home seeking help and bleeding from her head.

She attempted to clean the woman's wound, but there was significant bleeding. The woman with the head injury accused (redacted - suspect) of throwing kitchen dishes, or possibly a meat cleaver at her head, according to the arrest affidavit.

Afghanistan In Massive Internet Shutdown Amid Taliban 'Morality' Crackdown
"Afghanistan is now in the midst of a total Internet blackout as Taliban authorities move to implement morality measures, with multiple networks disconnected through the morning," said Internet governance watchdog Netblocks.

The Taliban leadership has not publicly commented on the nationwide shutdown, and it was not clear how long it would last.

On September 26, however, Haji Zahid, a local Taliban spokesman in the northern province of Balkh, said in a post on X that the ban had been ordered by their leader, Haibatullah Akhundzada, "to prevent immoral activities."

First it was Teslas taking up shopping center car parks and now BYD is doing a similar act at a popular tourist attraction.

China EV giant busted in secret Aussie act.

Thousands of new Chinese electric vehicles have been left stranded at one of Australia’s best known amusement parks after being stored there without council approval.

Photos taken at the Jamberoo Action Park south of Sydney show endless rows of unregistered BYD vehicles, including Shark utes and Sealion SUVs, covering car spots and overflow areas at the popular water park.

The site is a temporary home to countless cars with no number plates, covered in protective wrapping and shipping labels used before cars reach showrooms.

Yet neither Jamberoo Action Park, BYD, nor its former distributor EVDirect – is willing to explain why the cars are there or who is responsible for them.

Locals say the vehicles appeared suddenly a few months ago, describing it as “creepy” and a “car graveyard”.

Kiama Council said it was alerted to the vehicles two to three months ago following numerous complaints.

“Kiama Council is aware that the Jamberoo Action Park car park and overflow parking areas are being used to store a significant number of new vehicles,” a spokesperson said.

The council said the vehicles were stored without approval and that compliance officers have since intervened........

The royal headache of young Andy and silly Sarah continues to build.

King Charles heckled over brother Prince Andrew's ties to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson labelled 'hypocrites' by royal biographer over connection to Jeffrey Epstein.

Do they still have those "Little Eases" under the Tower of London and St. Paul's? If so then Andy can spend his nights at the Tower while Sarah spends hers at St. Paul's for a few years then brought out during the day and put in stocks so that tourists can throw tomatoes at them.

Well it's just a thought, but it should knock the pompous privileged attitude out of them.

Wonderfully weird:

Carnivorous ‘death ball’ sponge among new species found in depths of Southern Ocean
wrote:
A carnivorous “death ball” sponge is among 30 previously unknown deep-sea species found by scientists in one of the most remote parts of the planet.

Researchers sampled the depths of the Southern Ocean, including volcanic calderas, the South Sandwich trench and seafloor habitats around Montagu and Saunders islands.

As well as the sponge, the scientists found new armoured and iridescent scale worms, previously unknown species of sea star, new crustaceans including isopods and amphipods, and rare gastropods and bivalves..

Is Sanjeev Gupta really a billionaire or is he just running some sort of pyramid/ponzi scheme as time is called on another of his businesses here?

Administrators called in for Tahmoor coal owner amid $29m in unpaid royalties.

Administrators have been appointed to the holding company of a New South Wales coal mine after documents revealed it owes $30 million in royalties as part of more than $100 million in outstanding debts.

The Tahmoor coking coal mine south-west of Sydney has been closed since February, when it ran out of cash to pay its suppliers after it was embroiled in the financial turmoil engulfing its owner, British billionaire Sanjeev Gupta's GFG Alliance.

About 500 workers were stood down with pay, but about half of that number were contractors who have recently been told they will no longer be paid.

On Monday, the mine's parent entity, Liberty Primary Metals Australia (LPMA), was placed into voluntary administration......

It seems that Sanjeev's problems are not over.

Sanjeev Gupta accused of deliberately losing phones in $US30m unpaid bonuses court case.

Sanjeev Gupta is gone from the Whyalla steelworks but his troubles are far from over, with a former high-level international executive who oversaw the South Australian operation now suing for US$30 million in unpaid wages and bonuses.

You've likely never heard of Paramjit Kahlon, but from 2020 he was Liberty Steel's Chief Executive Officer Global, Primary Steel and Integrated Mining — a portfolio which included the Whyalla steelworks, Tahmoor Coal mine in NSW and Bell Bay smelter in Tasmania.

In Dubai's International Financial Centre Courts, Mr Kahlon has argued he is owed $US32,754,043.34 (approximately $50 million AUD) in wages and additional payments.

Mr Gupta denies the bonuses were contractually finalised. Mr Kahlon was terminated in 2022.

Mr Gupta has appeared in the witness box and faced hours of cross examination.

The case has lifted the veil on the inner workings of his global empire, including his regular use of WhatsApp for calls and messaging and his loss of mobile phones, amid accusations made by Mr Kahlon's lawyer that it was "inconceivable" and a "deliberate action" to avoid them being searched as part of the legal case, and other investigations into his businesses, which Mr Gupta told the court that was "absurd"...........

Slow as anything just now, I doubt that the delay is down to the presence, or absence, of Unicode is a bit of a red herring...

As we have quite some non-ASCII letters in our alphabet ("umlauts" etc.)... This unicode issue is well known. If you accidentally post multi byte unicode characters there's no regular result page showing up, instead instantly, without delay, an empty page; neither confirming the post (showing the post on the website), nor rejecting it. That's already known.

You can even post non-ASCII letters as long they are encoded into the latin extended ASCII (chars 128...255). So, cyrillic (e.g. Russian) letters can't be posted here, but german, french, scandinavian ones: äöüß ç Åæ. As soon you're copying text from e.g. a website that contains unicode non-ASCII letters (e.g. german umlauts in today's multi-byte unicode coding instead of old single-byte extended ASCII coding), or text was typed externally in another tool that supports unicode; after submit a blank page will appear.

Text editor... looking for the culprit ... repeating the post.

The currently occuring "access forbidden" is a clear reject and it's somehow caused by the setiathome web server, independent of ASCII (32...127) or non-ASCII (8 bit: 128...255) letters in the post.

I don't know why... some bottleneck in a database, whatever.). Somebody hinted at Cloudflare. We can't know if or what external security provider's service is used by setiathome. If they have a bottleneck, well...

Psst... Anyone want some "hot" lobster for a great price?
Claws off! Shipment of $400K worth of lobsters is hijacked en route to Costco stores
The lobster heist may be part of a broader ring of organized cargo thefts

The lobsters were bound for Costco locations in Illinois and Minnesota, but thieves hijacked the truck before it could make its deliveries, according to Fox Business.

Dylan Rexing, the CEO of Indiana-based logistics business Rexing Companies, told WFLD the shipment was picked up in Taunton, Massachusetts, but then disappeared. His company was transporting the lobsters.

Militant animal rights activists. They are everywhere. They will have released these tormented crustaceans into suitable habitats in Illinois and Minnesota.

Lobsters from Taunton, Massachusetts will be salt water crustaceans, and therefore would not like the freshwater habits in Illinois and Minnesota.

Something stinks about this lawsuit... No mention of the guys weight
Ocala (Florida) man sues Outback Steakhouse over toilet that ‘shattered and collapsed’ beneath him
According to the complaint, while Green was visiting the restaurant, he went to use the restroom. The filing states that while Green was “seated on the toilet in the handicap stall, the toilet suddenly shattered and collapsed beneath [him], causing him to fall.”

The lawsuit claims Green suffered “significant and permanent loss of an important bodily function and/or permanent and significant scarring,” as well as pain and suffering, medical expenses, and lost wages.

There is certainly a maximum load for every ceramic toilet, a quite filigree construction of thin walls and cavities to reduce tranport weight. But this max load isn't marked anywhere, resp. I've never seen it.

The assumptions made by engineers decades ago, which formed the basis for the design of all sorts of things, no longer seem to be absolutely valid today, or at least don't guarantee operational safety anymore.

Which in the end means that people that exceed certain weight limits walk on uncharted territory each hour a day. Unknown dangers are lurking everywhere...

A bit of digging and a "user weight" of 400kg would appear to be the expected figure, but that's on the pan itself, and reduces to about 150kg when the seat is taken into account. Now this is for the UK & Europe, but what of the USA? Any guesses?
