This is very local to me, and Richard, as they only have about 20 stores, Self-service: Booths supermarket puts staff back behind its tills but it has also made the news in New York. NYT - A Grocery Chain Just Fired Its Self-Checkouts

Ah, reminds me of when in a Ralphs, division of Kroger, I was ushered by an employee to use a self service checkout which was empty while there was a line at the full service. I politely declined saying I did not want to take a job away from a union employee. The look on their face was priceless. They were able to stammer out some corporate response line but it was obvious they were choking on it. Ralphs is a union shop and they were a union employee.

If only Walmart and other stores here in the US would do that, then they won't have angy shopper's making threats on the "door receipt checker" that want make sure you are not shoplifting.

US Air Force's new B-21 Raider "flying wing" bomber takes first flight
Nov 10 (Reuters) - The U.S. Air Force's B-21 "Raider" bomber shaped like a flying wing took its first flight on Friday, the next step in rolling out a new fleet of long-range nuclear-capable stealth bombers built by Northrop Grumman (NOC.N), according to a Reuters witness.

The B-21 left Northrop's facility at the Air Force's Plant 42 in Palmdale, California, at sunrise on Friday offering the first unscripted look at the new bomber which has been developed under strict security.

Another Murdaugh family type case of privilege and coverups?

One Woman Died on an Alaska Mayor’s Property. Then Another. No One Has Ever Been Charged.

Just unbelievable if it wasn't so real.

Very damning allegations, but they can be properly proved?

Sri Lanka's former government sabotaged probe into Easter Sunday bombings, retired police commander alleges.

A retired police commander has shed new light on claims that the former Sri Lankan government may have colluded with a terrorist group for political gain, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of people, including Australians, in the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings.

The attacks by Islamic state-inspired terrorists on churches and luxury hotels killed 269 people including two Australians and injured about 500 other people.

The head of the Catholic Church in Sri Lanka is now calling on the Australian government to support an independent investigation into the allegations, a call backed by Melbourne woman Chathudilla Weerasinghe, who survived the attack on Colombo's Kingsbury hotel.

"They should carry out an investigation … because there were so many blasts on the date — similar timings, coordinated – it has to be a major planned-out thing," Ms Weerasinghe said.

In September, the UK's Channel 4 aired claims by a former government aide, Asad Maulana, that a top intelligence official met with members of the terrorist group National Thowheed Jam'ath (NTJ) as part of an alleged plot to help former Sri Lankan president Gotabaya Rajapaksa win government by creating a national security crisis from the attacks.

Now, the former head of the investigation into the bombings has spoken out for the first time about what he claims was political interference which derailed the police probe.

Former deputy inspector general of police Ravi Seneviratne said his team was taken off the case when Mr Rajapaksa took office six months after the bombings.

Mr Seneviratne told ABC Investigations that his lead investigator was removed without explanation "immediately after the new government was elected — at the time, not even a prime minister or the cabinet had been appointed".......

Most subscriber subscription services don't like the idea of having free to air service apps embedded on smart TV's sold here. They'd rather have you search to install them still and are running a scare campaign to stop that from happening .

Is the government really trying to control your TV? Here's what its proposal on streaming apps means for you.

I guess that a lot are trying to save their dwindling profits any way that they can. LOL

Well, we have a similar media related issue here.
Have written to my MP & aside from the automated receipt e-mail, have heard nothing back to date (TBH, don't think I will).
With our landlines being shutdown by 2025 & the country switching to VoiP, WHY are we still paying landline rental charges?
With monthly charges for TV/ Broadband & phones being connected to routers, I think those landlines fees are now redundant.
Hey, must maintain our profits right?

Edited for spelling errors.

Is it just another sign of climate change or has PooTin found another way to disrupt things?

World’s largest iceberg, twice the size of London and two-thirds as tall as the Burj Khalifa skyscraper, breaks free.

The world’s biggest iceberg is on the move for the first time after being stuck to the ocean floor for 30 years.

The iceberg, called A23a, is 3884 square kilometres in size - twice the size of London - and is headed towards a British island.

It split from the Antarctic coastline in 1986 but was quickly anchored to the ocean floor and essentially became an ice island.

The past year has seen it drifting at speed, and now it is about to leave the Antarctic waters.

But it’s not just the size of the ice island that’s impressive.

The slab of ice is 399m thick, which is about two-thirds as high as the world’s tallest skyscraper, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

Before it broke off in 1986, it hosted a Soviet research station dubbed “Druzhnaya 1”. Moscow dispatched an expedition to retrieve equipment from the base before it was lost.

But the berg didn’t move far from the coast as its deep keel got stuck in the Weddell Sea’s bottom-muds.

Now the iceberg, driven by winds and currents, is passing the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula.

Dr Andrew Fleming, a remote sensing expert from the British Antarctic Survey, told the BBC: “ It was grounded since 1986 but eventually it was going to decrease (in size) sufficiently to lose grip and start moving. I spotted first movement back in 2020.”

Like most icebergs in the Weddell sector, A23a will most likely be thrown into the Antarctic “Circumpolar Current”.

From there, it will be ejected onto a path known as “iceberg alley”.....

It seems that ATSC 3.0 is not big on our list of things to do here.

Australia lags world in using latest TV broadcasting technology.

Meanwhile more safe guards for free to air are being brought in and up to date.

New laws to prevent 'iconic' sport moments slipping behind paywalls.

The Indian government is yet again at the center of an overseas assassination plot. :-(

In a major diplomatic upset, the US has arrested a man it claims was helped by the Indian Government to plan the killing of an American citizen in New York.

An Indian national has been charged with plotting to assassinate a Sikh separatist leader on US soil, the Justice Department said on Wednesday, alleging an Indian government official was also involved in the planning.

The Justice Department unsealed murder-for-hire charges against Nikhil Gupta, 52, “in connection with his participation in a foiled plot to assassinate a US citizen” of Indian origin in New York City, it said in a statement.

The man allegedly targeted in the killing “is a vocal critic of the Indian government and leads a US-based organisation that advocates for the secession of Punjab,” a northern Indian state with a large population of Sikhs......
