What I would like to know is whether Putin is deranged enough to use nuclear weapons and possibly start WWIII.

It isn't PooTin that matters, it is the officers that control them.
With the amount of corruption in their military, one has to wonder if they are maintained well enough to actually work.

...and if they do work that that work in the manner intended and not go boom prematurely. Doing so may actually result in a dirty explosion instead of a clean one, if ever a nuclear explosion can be described as clean.

Gary, you are wrong. It is Putin still in charge.

Any military instead, and it becomes a revolt with even worse consequences.

All this nuclear talk also makes me wonder how and where Putin would order nukes to be used. In artillery shells, bombs dropped by aircraft or missiles launched from the ground or submarines. And what targets would he choose. Also how would the western powers and/or China respond.

Good point, Bob.

It may seem that both China and North Korea might distance themselves from Putin right now, except perhaps Iran staying away.

But maybe even here we could find a different area, in that this country is not about Fascism, but more about Fundamentalism.

Only that if reminds me of a couple of other things I do not have to mention now.

Maybe we should be sending a signal now, and call for help rather than listening?

Problem is they are like terrorists, you only need one to get through to cause a big problem.

The unrest back at home is not good for PooTin.

Russian Man Opens Fire at Enlistment Office Amid Mobilization.

Arson Attacks on Enlistment Offices Spike After Putin Starts Mobilization.

Huge Fire at Russian Steel Plant Owned by Putin Ally Abramovich.

Russian Man Lit Himself on Fire to Protest Putin Draft.

And as PooTin loses manpower by those not wanting to fight he moves to stop the leaks.

Anyhow even the cannon fodder that he does gather up will likely just get a rifle a uniform and then sent on down with little to no protection or training at all.

Nothing destructive surprises me when considering the actions of Puking and his gangsters thugs these days.

Ukraine has officially applied for NATO membership

Of course, they will need to clear those pesky invaders out first, but then things should move along fairly quickly.

PooTin's war criminals have allegedly detained the chief of Europe’s largest nuclear plant as others are forced out of key east Ukraine town, but what other war crimes have they left behind them?

And after PooTin's act of sabotage it's being reported that the Nord Stream 2 pipeline seems to have stopped leaking.

Chechnya, Crimea, Georgia & Ukraine all had one thing in common, they were part of the USSR.
From what has been seen, the West had cause to fear Soviet forces.
Now however...
Lyman cleared

I know I'm a worrier, but it's usually only when there's justification. I'm dreading that Putin is planning on using small "tactical" nuclear weapons to force Ukraine's surrender.

Before dismissing this, keep in mind that many dismissed out of hand that he would ever invade Ukraine in the first place because it was such a militarily bad idea. It was, and still is, and so would be using tactical nukes, but Putin has never been dissuaded by something being a very bad idea, and doesn't look likely to ever start.

Putin has tried to portray himself as a strongman and intimidator, but he's getting his arse handed to him by a country a fraction of Russia's size and population. He is being humiliated and people of his character type don't handle that well, Most notably, he's been scolded by two of his very few allies or at least trading partners, China and India, and considering how he has tried to impress China's president this has to hurt.

Putin is also losing control. His armies are nearly out of supplies, his people are rebelling against conscription and now openly calling for his resignation or for him to be charged with treason, the Russian economy is in tatters regardless of his government's attempts to prop it up and pretend otherwise. When he "annexed" four Ukrainian territories a few days ago and said they would "always be Russian", one of them fell to the Ukrainian army within hours, a further public humiliation.

Three things have happened in the past couple of days which justify this concern:
1) Nuclear-ready bombers have been deployed to a Russian nuclear arms base
2) A train has left the Russian division HQ responsible for nuclear weapons
3) Putin's closest ally and fellow "tough guy" (aka bully/thug) Chechnyan leader Ramzan Kadyrov is pressuring him to use tactical nukes in Ukraine and has also recently chastised the Russian military on losses, a further humiliation.

Of course #4 doesn't need a link because it's something we all are aware of: Putin's sham premature annexation of four Ukrainian regions. By doing this, he can now claim to the Russian people (but certainly not the rest of the world) that Ukraine is attacking Russia itself by continuing to fight in these regions, and thus further justify a nuclear escalation.

This does not bode well...

I fear the more Puking and his thugs backs are against the wall the more likely they are to use nuclear weapons. I dread to think about the outcome of such an action, both locally within Ukraine, but also further afield (Moscow/Washington)....

It's not often I post YT links to videos about Ukraine, and certainly not those over an hour long, but this is a calm one assessing the situation and the options (including nuclear) that are open the Russia, and what the results of them might be.

PooTin Faces Unprecedented Criticism From Russian Leaders as Battlefield Losses Mount for his poor lack of judgement as Duma ratifies annexation as Kremlin admits it doesn't know Ukraine's borders which just goes to show how incompetent PooTin and his war criminals really are.

Meanwhile the US to send Ukraine more advanced rocket systems, but how about sending them a few missiles to take out those 2 bridges connecting occupied Crimea to Russia, and the First Russian reservists mobilized by Putin arrive in Lugansk to secure the territory, though I doubt that they'll be of much help.

Well PooTin's plans are going down the drain faster by the day as his running war criminals have supplied Half of Ukraine's Tank Fleet (and the ammo to go with them) while the Ukraine is Close to Controlling Crimea as Russia's Southern Front Collapses.

Once they control that water supply they just need to remove those 2 bridges connecting Crimea to Russia and they'll have Crimes back. Now that would be a wonderful birthday present for PooTin.
