Don't forget the increased tensions with Estonia's airspace regularly breached for the past week.

Russia Appears to Begin ‘Purge’ of Battlefield Commanders in Ukraine.
They should consider themselves fortunate. as in the past they would have been shot.

They've probably been reenlisted as canon fodder now instead.

I have to agree with this assessment and 1 would have to wonder if it all comes down to just plain poor training.

The Russian air force's struggles in Ukraine are surprising because they're fighting 'their own systems,' top US Air Force general says.

The Russian air force's failure to gain control of the air over Ukraine and its struggles to operate effectively against Ukrainian air defenses are among the biggest surprises in the four-month war.

Russia's failure to ground Ukraine's aircraft and to overcome Ukrainian anti-aircraft weapons contributed to the faltering of Moscow's initial ground offensive — an unusual outcome because the Russians themselves use many of the same weapons, according to Gen. Charles Brown Jr., the chief of staff of the US Air Force.

"I think for me it's surprising for the Russians because the systems they're going against are their own systems. They should know them fairly well and how to defeat them," Brown said Wednesday at the Hudson Institute, a think tank in Washington DC.

"It kind of begs a real question for me: How come they don't understand their own systems and how they might defeat their own systems?" Brown added...

Thinks - Russia hasn't updated their FoF dta to take account of fighting someone who uses their G2A equipment. Ukraine has updated its FoF equipment to take account of its G2A being used against its producing country. Woops.

39 years ago in one of the rare & sensible conversations with the "old woman", I said something which made me think about when I returned home.
What started the conversation off was her saying thank god we got a strong leader no thanks to people like the "old man".
I said but he's always voted for Maggie (ask me no questions & I'll tell you no lies).. She gave me a strange questioning look, seen my smile then burst out laughing.
Near the end of the conversation, I said if people are not careful, Europe will blow.
4 years later I said that Europe will see conflict for a 3rd time & sadly in my lifetime.
Several months later, Maggie was returned to No 10. Was asked the question about the old man, I just smiled.
Over the following years, especially when the Berlin Wall came down, that fear receded.
Now it's back.
History proves that appeasement fails
It seems that Europe still hasn't learnt.
These bozos want an EU Army?
I can recall several on these boards calling me a warmonger in my series of EU threads (several years before Russia annexed the Crimea in 2014).
I wonder what their thoughts are today?

4 months in, I can't believe my ears.
WTF?
War Fatigue?
Mr Johnson said leaders would be discussing how to keep the coalition of support together "at a time when realistically there is going to be fatigue among populations and politicians".
More than likely too many BHL's looking for their "safe space"
At least 50 years ago, right or wrong, people stood up to be counted.
Society today, only have those who stand up for useless or stupid causes.
There are plenty here who can recall the days of CND & Greenham Common & Molesworth.
Of course, who can forget the world famous "Hanoi Jane".

History is a great teacher, unfortunately, too many fail to heed the lessons being taught.
The aftermath of WWI led to a massive reduction in armed forces, understandable as Europe was suffering from war fatigue.
Along comes "Der kleine Korporal" who after settling in to power, decides to rebuild his armed forces in secret.
Europe & the World get a clear warning sign in 1936 with the Spanish Civil War.
In 1937, there were a further 2 warning signs 1 which proved to be deadly, that woke a few up.
Sino-Japanese War
The bombing of Guernicia.
Unfortunately, too many got caught with their pants around their knees & tried to catch up. Too little, too late.
The rest is history.

1989, the Berlin war came down, Putin was 37 years old.
The BAOR was formally disbanded in 1994. The remaining troops became part of the multi-national Allied Command Europe Rapid Reaction Corps (ARRC), which was under British leadership.
Putin is 42.
20 years later, Putin now 62, attacks Ukraine & ends up annexing the Crimea.
8 years later, he again attacks Ukraine & what has been seen?
n 2010, the Strategic Defense and Security Review made further cuts in the German garrison. It was also announced that the majority of soldiers would leave the country by 2020.

While the war continues what will Putin see?
As Nato chief, Jens Stoltenberg has called for a major increase to the alliance's rapid response force. But meeting that target is fraught with difficulties.
Some members are questioning whether the West has the money, the manpower or the will to follow through on its ambition.
For those that called me a frigging warmonger, I have a clear message for.
The blind see, the deaf hear, the dumb speak.

WOW.
Reported on BBC Live just minutes ago.
Reading between the lines of today’s speech by the head of the British Army, General Sir Patrick Sanders (who says Britain is facing its "1937 moment"), what he’s calling for is a complete, radical overhaul of Nato’s strategy to defend the Baltics.
Think someone should point out to Putin, the "Main" reason for the formation of NATO.

It's strange how fact overtakes fiction.
A quote from Tom Clancy's book "Command Authority".
Russia will invade Ukraine, probably within the next few weeks. They will annex the Crimea. From there, if they meet no resistance from the West, they will take more of the country, all the way to the Dnieper River. Once this is achieved, I believe Volodin will set his eyes on making beneficial alliances from a position of power, both in the other border countries and in the former nations of the Warsaw Pact. He believes he can return the entire region to the central control of the Kremlin. Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania. They will be the next dominoes to fall.
BTW Command Authority was released in 2013.

Russian ATMs Reject New 100-Ruble Bill – Kommersant
Russia’s new 100-ruble bill will not be introduced into circulation anytime soon due to difficulties stemming from Western ATM and point-of-sale service providers' exit over the war in Ukraine, the Kommersant business daily reported Thursday.
Russia’s Central Bank introduced the new 100-ruble banknote — depicting the Kremlin’s Spasskaya Tower on the front and the Rzhev Memorial to the Russian Soldier on the back — with higher durability and upgraded security features this Thursday.
Concerns over the new bill’s circulation arose after the leading U.S. ATM and point-of-sale terminal manufacturers NCR and Diebold Nixdorf left Russia in retaliation to its invasion of Ukraine.
“Given the geopolitical situation, it is difficult to imagine that development for the Russian market will be a priority,” Kommersant quoted an unnamed payment market source as saying.
They warned that the new banknotes could be impossible to use because of the service providals’ refusal to issue updates for them.

Ukraine demands the seizure of Russian-flagged grain ship off Turkey
wrote:
Ukraine has called for a ship carrying grain from a Russian-occupied part of the country to be seized. The ship is currently lying off the Turkish coast...

... He later edited the post, taking out references to the ship's cargo and destination...

Putin starves the world to then supposedly magnanimously offer a few grains...

My personal opinion is that this situation is not going to end any time soon.
In fact, I think it will get much worse for the West for many years to come.
For the last decade (possibly 2), the political leadership of the West has been abysmal, which has only emboldened the likes of Putin.

Moscow's answer to the demise of Bozo the Clown.
President Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Mr Johnson "really does not like us - and we [do not like] him either".
He said he hoped "more professional people" who could "make decisions through dialogue" would take over in London.
Hilarious.
Moscow's glee
