Hopefully, we do not get to see that...

Hopefully also, there are cooler heads under Putin who will depose him before risking such a guaranteed destruction of themselves. MAD is not to be teased or threatened.

Vlad Putin has indeed totally gone "Full Tonto"...

Russia has in the last day abused it's veto at the UN and has been resoundingly UNANIMOUSLY rebuked. That is previously unheard of. And most likely a first ever.

Incredulously, Putin has also walked away from the Russia-NATO accord.

Note very carefully:

Effectively, Putin has declared war upon NATO.

Is this the last gasp of a madman?

The USA and NATO are openly already immediately moving further troops and equipment into play. Also, individual European states for themselves also.

This is all a very worrying widespread escalation as Putin pushes further into a deadly desperate stupidity.

And no one can back down?

A great deal hangs on whether Kyiv can survive this night.

I hope I am wrong and the rest of the world outside of Russia has enough backbone to force Putin to back down. It would be a first in world politics and that is why I don't see an outcome that will leave anyone with a warm fuzzy feeling about eastern europe.

I guess that it was bound to happen sooner or later. :-(

Russia Space Agency Head Making Threats About International Space Station.

...Dmitry Rogozin, head of Russian space agency Roscosmos, unleashed a tweetstorm in response to the threat of US sanctions that could impact the space program. In the thread, Rogozin made the argument that Russia's space program has operated just fine with restrictions in place since the Russian annexation of Crimea in 2014.

He went on to point out that Russian engines help steer the ISS out of the way of space junk in orbit. But then the rant took a bizarre turn as Rogozin floated the idea of dropping the ISS on our heads should the US and other participating nations kick Russia out of the program.

"If you block cooperation with us, who will save the ISS from an uncontrolled deorbit and fall into the United States or Europe? There is also the option of dropping a 500-ton structure to India and China. Do you want to threaten them with such a prospect? The ISS does not fly over Russia, so all the risks are yours."....

It may not fly over Moscow, but there's a lot of Russia south of 51.6 degrees.

You can check the route of the ISS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0U9A06vrYXc

It passed over Sebastapol about an hour ago, and passed over Russia about 1½ hrs before that and probably did another pass over Russia another 1½ hrs before that.

And will be passing over Russia again in about 7 hrs time.

It is 2022, in Europe, and...

TODAY:

Who would have believed the desperate sight of housewives and grandmothers hard at work in the open areas of Kyiv, desperately hurriedly making Molotov cocktails to attempt to hold back the impending invasion into their city of Putin's Russian army of tanks.

Is Putin returning to World War II, but with yet greater deadly consequences?

All in Europe. All in 2022.

Where next? And how soon??

Nope.

Those examples are from missile strikes. For quite a "different effect".

These are desperate times indeed to even be discussing the differences between RPGs, shelling, and missile attacks...

Russia vetoes the UN Security Council resolution condemning the invasion of Ukraine
wrote:
Russia has vetoed a resolution that would condemn them for invading Ukraine.

China, India and UAE have abstained from vetoing and 11 more countries voted in favour...

There is the aspect of the vote itself.

More significant is what was said at the UN following the vote...

Very sombre. And very sombre for what comes next.

A great deal hangs on whether Kyiv can survive this night.

Russia is now censoring the media and the internet all across Russia to block any mention of the word "Invasion".

Isn't Putin one of the richest men in the world? What kind of person would risk all that just for power. He can't really believe that Russia was at risk of being invaded. By whom and for what? I really hope no one believes the USA or any of it's allies desires to conquer Russia. I don't see how he can convince the Russian people or anyone else for that matter that Russia is in danger from anyone except maybe himself. There are a lot of rich politicians in Russia who all risk loosing their fortunes following a bad decision from their leader.

Another way to look at it. Say the world is just one big chess board. I don't see a piece left on the board that is worth risking everything for. Except for the extremely irritating natives of the middle east and a certain madman sitting next to China pretty much everyone else around the world is willing to play with the pieces dealt to them. What's the point of having it all if there is no one else left to bully?

And amazingly, here we have real life footage of the missile:

Ukraine: Kyiv apartment building hit by missile

Note: This is 2022 and in the middle of a modern European city... Who would believe it?

Who would have believed the desperate sight of housewives and grandmothers hard at work in the open areas of Kyiv, desperately hurriedly making Molotov cocktails to attempt to hold back the impending invasion into their city of Putin's Russian army of tanks.

Now also in Dnipro and most likely repeated across other parts of Ukraine:

Terrified but coping, residents of Dnipro jolt into action
wrote:
... Such scenes are unimaginable to most in Europe. They were unthinkable here too, once.

But Dnipro is now preparing to defend itself against advancing Russian troops.

"No-one thought this is how we'd spend our weekend, but it seems like the only important thing to do now," Arina told me, the young teacher's face and hair sprinkled in white dust from the polystyrene.

"It's pretty terrifying. ... we just need to be doing something," she said...
